Aromas.....of the early morning....
Prayer?......I hope so....these are aromas as I walked early in the morning....I smelled them all as I walked except the prayer...but I hoped it was there...a sweet aroma that
God knows...
In the Old Testament, the Bible speaks of aroma...."an aroma pleasing to The Lord" , the sacrifices of various pieces of meat...for various reasons...that picture, for me, leads my mind took thinking about the smell of a barbecue on a summer day....good...an aroma that is pleasing......
In the tabernacle and the temple, there was the alter of incense.....and it has a specific mixture of incense to be placed there to burn and fill the air with its aroma....I thought it was interesting that it was to be salted....was that for preservation??, but "pure and sacred...."...and this recipe was not for anything else....special....only for God...
I just thought it was interesting that from beginning to end....there are aromas that are pleasing....but in New Testament, the aroma is of Christians and their prayers...that is what is pleasing....what a comparison and challenge....
We are unique, a certain "recipe".....used by God, pleasing to God... A sacrifice....To be spreading His aroma everywhere...our prayers are kept....known....Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice....for us......but......pleasing to Him....
What kind of aroma am I? Pleasing, special....prayerful....
Thank YOU, that there are reminders of YOU all over, open my eyes to their significance...to me, to others ....Your aroma in my life....my prayers...a sweet aroma to You...
Exodus 30:34-38. Then the Lord said to Moses, “Take fragrant spices—gum resin, onycha and galbanum—and pure frankincense, all in equal amounts, 35 and make a fragrant blend of incense, the work of a perfumer. It is to be salted and pure and sacred. 36 Grind some of it to powder and place it in front of the ark of the covenant law in the tent of meeting, where I will meet with you. It shall be most holy to you. 37 Do not make any incense with this formula for yourselves; consider it holy to the Lord. 38 Whoever makes incense like it to enjoy its fragrance must be cut off from their people.”
2 Corinthians 2:14
But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere.
2 Corinthians 2:15
For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.
Revelation 5:8
And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of God’s people.
Revelation 8:3
Another angel, who had a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense to offer, with the prayers of all God’s people, on the golden altar in front of the throne.
