Lightning and melted earth…

 Melted earth and lightning….

Several years ago, our family set out to cross the U.S. with our travel trailer and a tent…we dropped down through Utah and Colorado, going through 4 corners, Gallup, New Mexico and then across …stopping frequently to see the sights of our vast nation…we only had two deadlines to meet- a TMI  bus in Atlanta, Georgia, as well a the commissioning service two weeks later in Merritt Island, Florida…

We made so many memories, saw so much…but one night stood out above all…Lubbock, Texas…this place is as flat as can be and you can see for miles around…we arrived, set up camp quickly as we could see a storm brewing …then the heavens let loose…a spectacular thunder and lightning storm in all directions….it was like watching the best fireworks show possible…with oohs and awes all around the camping area…as set out in our chairs and on top of the vehicles…what a memory of God’s power…

Melted earth…some commentaries suggested lava flows, others suggest landslides…we have seen both over and over again over the years. Rain soaked mud slides filling and spilling over towns and valleys, decimating communities…or lava flowing down the mountain side, burning everything in its path…

Neither the lightning nor the melted earth could be restrained by human hands…the Lord reigns…

Thank YOU….

The Lord reigns, let the earth rejoice;let the many coastlands be glad!

Clouds and thick darkness are all around him;righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.

Fire goes before him and  burns up his adversaries all around. His lightnings light up the world;the earth sees and trembles.

The mountains melt like wax before the Lord, before the Lord of all the earth.

The heavens proclaim his righteousness, and all the peoples see his glory.

All worshipers of images are put to shame, who make their boast in worthless idols;worship him, all you gods!

Zion hears and is glad, and the daughters of Judah rejoice, because of your judgments, O Lord.

For you, O Lord, are most high over all the earth;you are exalted far above all gods.

O you who love the Lord, hate evil!

He preserves the lives of his saints;he delivers them from the hand of the wicked.

Light is sown for the righteous, and joy for the upright in heart. Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous, and give thanks to his holy name!

Ps.97.1-12
