Events and monuments....

Events and monuments.....

"Events happen on our lives, we can't control them, but we can control how we react to them..."  I heard or read  this statement recently....I didn't record where. Sorry...not all the time can we control how we will react to them, though....some are just plain ambushes to our emotions...

A friend and I went to see the movie, "the monuments men". Really good, by the way. No extra sex scenes, very little profanity, there are war scenes....fairly good acting and some humor, even...it is based on a true story of a few non combatant  men sent to find the art pieces that Hitler confiscated from museums, homes and people as he swept through Europe in World War 2 before the order was carried out to destroy them all....over 5 million were recovered as well as warehouses of whole households of Jewish belongings....

They chose the react to an event happening...in order to salvage millions of pieces of art, sculptures, church icons, personal belongings...and return  them to the rightful owners if possible...

There are monuments, treasures throughout the Bible as well, eternal ones....Noah built an altar, Abraham built altars, Jacob built an altar, the Israelites built altars, some of the prophets built altars, Moses built altars, and on down the line through Revelations..monuments to attest to the provision, salvation, glory of God, ...not to worship the altar or any graven image, but a remembrance to  what He had done or was doing...we wear crosses as a symbol of the resurrection...

We usually take pictures of events, recording significant moments, sharing them and their meaning with others...monuments of a sort...or journals of life...and feelings...another remembrance...

None of these art pieces, pictures, journals, or whatever to be worshipped, but reminders of God...part of our heritage through the ages......

thank YOU for the reminders of monuments in our lives that point back to You, that may point others to You...pieces of art that You have designed Into our lives...to be treasured as a gift from Your hand....not to be forgotten and stowed away or destroyed....remembrances ....handed down from one generation to another....
