Addicted....

Addicted....

When I first adopted my dog, he had a habit which was and is nauseating to me....I have tried to break it, to no avail...I finally, ashamedly, talked to the vet about it and he assured me it was not uncommon and proceeded to give me some meds for it, which I wanted to cover with a brown paper bag as I walked through the waiting room....

We don't have to go very far in today's news to find addictions of all kinds, some glorified and others, tolerated....others, just there, lived with....

Mine is food addiction...I love food......I have friends and acquaintances who have or are struggling with porn, gambling, sex, power, control, adrenaline, money, anorexia, bulimia, hoarding,  flattery, computers, work,  exercise, Narcissism, drugs-illegal and legal, alcohol, drama, smoking, food.....the list goes on....when we love it so much that it has power over us or has taken control of our lives.....addiction...no matter what it is, it is not a pretty sight, we try to hide it, cover over it, but in the end it is exposed....

Sometimes naming it, gives us power and the naming gives incite to ourselves, our past and what we need to address or where we need to go...we can try to conquer it on our own, medicate, join support groups or  pray,   Or all the above....we need to bring it to the foot of the cross...lay it down,....seek help, wisdom in the right course of action and follow through....there is no easy road...some have been delivered instantaneously, while others have the burden for life, walking and working each day through the victory...total dependence on the God who loves us and wants his best for us.....

God, you expose us to truth.....thank you, that you also help us with that truth in our lives....help me to choose the right way and to do your will in my life in all things.....I don't want to repeat my folly, but move forward in Your victory...

Proverbs 20:1
Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by them is not wise.

Proverbs 21:17
Whoever loves pleasure will become poor; whoever loves wine and olive oil will never be rich.

Matthew 19:26 ..."With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."

Proverbs 23:29 Who has woe? Who has sorrow?
Who has strife? Who has complaints?
Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes?
30 Those who linger over wine,
who go to sample bowls of mixed wine.
31 Do not gaze at wine when it is red,
when it sparkles in the cup,
    when it goes down smoothly!
32 In the end it bites like a snake
    and poisons like a viper.
33 Your eyes will see strange sights,
and your mind will imagine confusing things.
34 You will be like one sleeping on the high seas,
lying on top of the rigging.
35 “They hit me,” you will say, “but I’m not hurt!
They beat me, but I don’t feel it!
When will I wake up
so I can find another drink?”

Proverbs 26:11
As a dog returns to its vomit, so fools repeat their folly.

Isaiah 56:11
They are dogs with mighty appetites; they never have enough. They are shepherds who lack understanding; they all turn to their own way, they seek their own gain.

To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. (John 8:31-32)
