The poor among us...

The poor.....among us.....

One of my daughters shared an article about city slums....interesting...

It made me think about the poor among us...this particular daughter went to Brazil and worked with children who lived in the dump of a major city..each family had a particular thing they collected in the dump to use or sell.....

We have  a multitude of world organizations, national groups, local helps for encouraging and enabling the poor among us...right now the push is for school supplies for poorer children, coats for kids, diapers for babies, clothing for the homeless, glasses for the needy, Samaritan Christmas boxes, etc, etc. etc...

Our own family has been poor and rich...I didn't realize until later that we were poor compared to others when I was growing up...we always had food, clothing and a home....but I didn't realize how my mother stretched the food to make it stretch further into the end of the month....sugar and butter sandwiches weren't too nutritious, but I thought they were a treat!?  Little did I know...

There are a lot of verses referring to the poor throughout the Bible...Ruth and Naomi were poor and reaped from the laws given earlier about the grain to be left for the poor people on the edges  of the fields...The Lord has regard for the poor and needy...no partiality ....

I love collecting to give...I love to see or imagine smiles on children's faces getting a gift that they receive...watching the scenes about the Christmas boxes, the teachers receiving school supplies, coats being warn, food being distributed...we have so much, but we receive more when we give....thank YOU for giving us gifts to give .....

For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.
