Milestones....

Milestones....

Today would have been my husband's 70th birthday...but instead he is a forever 67 year young father/husband in our families memories....we would have had a big birthday get together for him, as this can be a milestone birthday...

It always seemed like his birthday was hard to celebrate as we were always still doing summer work, activities, or on the road for a variety of reasons.  We did get to celebrate it a few times as his birthday with special times...a 60th,  65th,  40th, 50th, 30th...one year we were moving, another we all had the flu; another, we were taking care of kids with chicken pox while visiting parents; Portland zoo with family; picnics and fishing; a hike in the Ruby Mountains; dinner at Mt Shasta; fair preparations.... It was a hidden date In the end of summer activities....

He always wanted peach or berry pies instead of a cake...so that part was easy...oh how he loved those pies...I am sure his mother fixed a multitude of pies for a family of four growing boys and a logger for a husband..so pies were a comfort food for him growing up in the hills of Oregon with free wild blackberries in abundance...and he might have even picked his berries himself...(he passed that love of picking berries on to his children)...we would all pick when they were available...I would make "ready to bake" pies for the freezer so that we could have them year around as a treat....

He loved having people around, his family and friends, others...always ready to meet anyone along the way....hear their stories, drop a word of encouragement, talk about geology....talk about missions, share life....

Thank YOU for the days You gave us..as a couple, as a family.....written in tears of joy and sorrow....milestones of life....

Psalm 90:12 Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Genesis 15:15 You, however, will go to your ancestors in peace and be buried at a good old age.

Genesis 25:8 Then Abraham breathed his last and died at a good old age, an old man and full of years; and he was gathered to his people.

1 Chronicles 29:28a He died at a good old age, having enjoyed long life, wealth and honor......

Job 32:9 It is not only the old who are wise, not only the aged who understand what is right.

Psalm 92:14a They will still bear fruit in old age....

Isaiah 46:4 Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.
