The birds and the bees…
The other night I finally was able to watch a documentary about hummingbirds in Costa Rica…their importance to the ecology in that country…while I disagreed with some of the statements made, the photography was beautiful and the storyline was okay….the hummingbirds are important to the pollination of a multitude of flowers, fruit trees, etc…there are over 50 different kinds of hummingbirds in that country alone (there are over 300 different ones in various places) from the coasts to the high volcanic mountains…each with a particular job to do….each with their own unique colors…each with different beak lengths and shapes….
Going outside my own home, I observed some of our local pollinators, the busy bees…I love watching them flit from flower to flower…busy gathering, spreading the pollen from one bloom to another…my cherry, apple, pear, nectarine and peach trees are in full bloom, awaiting God’s pollination from these busy tiny creatures…we reap not only the benefits of their pollination, but their production of delicious honey…
(The hummingbirds won’t arrive here in this area until the middle of this month…they will have their own job to upon arrival…)
My mom loved painting hummingbirds…and she left several of her paintings as well as her collection of hummingbird jewelry, Knick-knacks, various items which she collected over the years…(I had to a couple of paintings as well..)
All this to say, these tiny birds and bees have a specific role in God’s creation…they weren’t created by mistake to find their way…they didn’t evolve so their beak length/shape could only fit a certain flower…(that would mean the bird and the flower would have had to evolve at the same time)…the gifts of beauty, fruit and honey are ours to enjoy…
Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.”
And it was so.
The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds.
And God saw that it was good.
And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day.
And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.”
So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind.
And God saw that it was good.
God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.”
And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day.
