 Lies and bribes….

In the book of Matthew, there is a little paragraph right before he wrote about the Great Commission…the soldiers had an account about happened at the tomb…but the chief priests wanted a “rewrite” of the story…so they devised a plan and paid off the soldiers to lie…just like they paid Judas to hand over Jesus….

The leaders that people wanted to trust betrayed  them  yet again…

 While the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened. 

When the chief priests had met with the elders and devised a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money, telling them, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came during the night and stole him away while we were asleep.’ If this report gets to the governor, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” 

So the soldiers took the money and did as they were instructed. 

And this story has been widely circulated among the Jews to this very day.

Matt.28.11-15

There are lies recorded in the Word from early on, Satan in the garden , Cain and on down through the ages…and it hasn’t stopped…we still fight it…

John 8:44 Jesus confronts it…

You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

Proverbs 12:22 is one verse which tells us what the Lord thinks of it…

 “The Lord detests lying lips,but he delights in people who are trustworthy.”

Have I lied or told a “little white lie”?  Yep, I fit right into that verse…

 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”

Rom.3.23

But, we have an “antidote “…

 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.

1John.1.8-10
