Healings in Capernaum…

 Healings in Capernaum…

So of all the places to read in the Scriptures this morning, it was Jesus healing Peter’s mother-in-law and the village of Capernaum…

In 2019, we stood in that town, gazing at Peter’s home, walked through the synagogue, had our Sunday service there, sat next to the water, looked at the various artifacts scattered around…knowing Jesus trod on the very same pathways so many years ago…

He healed there, he prayed there, he attended the synagogue there, he had fellowship there….he spoke his purpose there…” I must peach the good news of the kingdom of God”….when the people would have held him there for  themselves …he was there for the World, not just one village…

Scriptures say…

And when Jesus entered Peter's house, he saw his mother-in-law lying sick with a fever. He touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she rose and began to serve him. That evening they brought to him many who were oppressed by demons, and he cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick. This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: “He took our illnesses and bore our diseases.”

Matt.8.14-17

And he arose and left the synagogue and entered Simon's house. Now Simon's mother-in-law was ill with a high fever, and they appealed to him on her behalf.

And he stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her, and immediately she rose and began to serve them.

Now when the sun was setting, all those who had any who were sick with various diseases brought them to him, and he laid his hands on every one of them and healed them.

And when it was day, he departed and went into a desolate place.

And the people sought him and came to him, and would have kept him from leaving them, but he said to them, “I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns as well; for I was sent for this purpose.”

And he was preaching in the synagogues of Judea.

Luke.4.38-40,Luke.4.42-44

And immediately he left the synagogue and entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.

Now Simon's mother-in-law lay ill with a fever, and immediately they told him about her. And he came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and the fever left her, and she began to serve them.

That evening at sundown they brought to him all who were sick or oppressed by demons. And the whole city was gathered together at the door. And he healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons.

And he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him.

And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.

And Simon and those who were with him searched for him, and they found him and said to him, “Everyone is looking for you.”

And he said to them, “Let us go on to the next towns, that I may preach there also, for that is why I came out.”

And he went throughout all Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and casting out demons.

Mark.1.29-39

I am meeting with a doctor today, a spinal specialist, o find out if there is anything he can do for my back… praying that someone can give relief from the back pain that has taken its toll this last year…I would have been among those who went  to Peter’s home to visit with Jesus for healing…listening to his words…wondering “who is this man”…who heals and preaches these words of the kingdom of God…”Could this be the Messiah?”…

Thank YOU….
