He reached out and touched him…

He reached out and touched touched him…

“The leprous person who has the disease shall wear torn clothes and let the hair of his head hang loose, and he shall cover his upper lip and cry out, ‘Unclean, unclean.’ He shall remain unclean as long as he has the disease. He is unclean. He shall live alone. His dwelling shall be outside the camp.

Lev.13.45-46

When he came down from the mountain, great crowds followed him. And behold, a leper came to him and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.” And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will; be clean.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. And Jesus said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a proof to them.”

Matt.8.1-4

Mark 1:40-45

Luke 5:12-16

Leviticus in the Old Testament, lists the rules for uncleanness of various objects, people, homes, cloth, etc…the Jews were to have nothing to do it and were given conditions on how to deal with it…priests making many determinations…a person could become  unclean by touching another who was unclean…

I remember as a child watching the epic movie, “Ben Hur”…the depictions of conditions that the lepers lived in, in biblical times…outside the city, in caves,  begging people, darkness…

But Jesus, knowing these laws, touched people…healing them…He touched their bodies, their souls, their hearts…He, the perfect, didn’t become unclean or contaminated…He made them whole…He was “willing “…he entered the world to change it…leaving the Glories of heaven to walk the earth…

Thank YOU….

looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
