I had this video in my email this morning….just had to share…


After cleaning out my parent’s things, my husband’s things and moving my things I ended up with several “junk” drawers as they had them and I had them too…they are awfully hard to clean out…as they have the items that there is no set place for….things we grab quickly and put back after use, sometimes…scotch tape, finger nail file, pens, tape measure, stamps, post it notes, glue, pencils, dead sharpies, free pens, rubber bands, etc, etc, etc.


And the beginning page of my estate notebook has the following picture…stuff…handed down stuff…I got it and now my children get it…


The things we hold dear, the things that remind us of the past, bringing our parent’s lives into focus somehow…what they held dear…their diaries, notebooks, their heirlooms…now ours to store…


We have to balance holding on and letting go…none of this will make to heaven with us…we can’t carry a suitcase with us, or junk drawers, nor notebooks, nor an antique toy, nor precious pictures…it won’t matter there…


We are pressing on for a higher calling…unencumbered by the stuff of this world…



 Let us acknowledge the Lord;let us press on to acknowledge him.As surely as the sun rises,he will appear;he will come to us like the winter rains,like the spring rains that water the earth.”

 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 

Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: 

Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. 

But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.

Cherry juice….

 


Cherry juice…


Yesterday I used my steamer/juicer to juice some cherries…it is too concentrated to drink straight, so has to be diluted with water or a carbonated  accompaniment….


Reading in Revelations this am…made me think of the cherry juice…the wine press…


First the wine makers had to tread the grapes to get the majority of the juice out, then put through a wine press to finish the process before the fermentation…typically they combined one part wine to three or four parts water, rarely drinking full strength…


Chapter 14  speaks of “full strength “ no more dilution of judgement to come…


 A third angel followed them and said in a loud voice: “If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives its mark on their forehead or on their hand, they, too, will drink the wine of God’s fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath. They will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment will rise for ever and ever. There will be no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and its image, or for anyone who receives the mark of its name.” This calls for patient endurance on the part of the people of God who keep his commands and remain faithful to Jesus.

Rev.14.9-12


The last sentence of this passage speaks of patient endurance and faithfulness of the people of God….steadfastness through the storm…

Beauty from ashes…

 Beauty from ashes…


I have friend who has quite the testimony…she was ill for three years, at death’s door countless times and continues with residual after effects, but continues on living life and sharing the love of Jesus wherever she goes….

Through it all, her husband was a rock, and then she had the opportunity to stand by him through his cancer treatments …as of now, he is cancer free, too…they have much to share with the world …shining lights…


….to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes,the oil of joy instead of mourning,and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.

They will be called oaks of righteousness,a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor. 

For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden causes seeds to grow,so the Sovereign Lord will make righteousness and praise spring up before all nations.

Isa.61.3,11


I have known many people whose testimonies show forth the joy, praise through the suffering…rather dwell on the negative, dwelling on the praise…the “thank you” instead of the grumbling, complaining…


It is a fact, that we all go through hard times, roller coaster rides of life…there is an unlimited amount of comfort from our Creator…


 When you pass through the waters,I will be with you;and when you pass through the rivers,they will not sweep over you.When you walk through the fire,you will not be burned;the flames will not set you ablaze.

Isa.43.2


 But those who suffer he delivers in their suffering;he speaks to them in their affliction. 

Job 36-15


 Remember your word to your servant,for you have given me hope. My comfort in my suffering is this:Your promise preserves my life.

I just received a prayer request from a friend and missionary in Thailand…her youngest is suffering from an inflammation which left one side of his face drooped like a stroke….now PT to get those muscles to work again….was glad she was able to see a doctor….instead of waiting, waiting, waiting…now the waiting for healing …strength in waiting…


Chuck  Swindoll  once said there are more “waits” than “goes” in the Bible…

I remember at the time he said that, I didn’t want to hear it…we were in a “waiting” time, wondering where the Lord would lead next…not knowing which direction to take, so we waited…until a door opened, praying and fasting for direction…and when the door opened, it was  nothing like we could ever have imagined…it was worth  the wait…..it had been prepared by a divine Hand…

King of the roost…




 King of the roost…


I have a little black-chinned hummingbird which spends part of each morning seated on the top of a small wooden archway outside my kitchen window…he looks around, watches me, cleans himself, and must really enjoy the view…


The other day a finch arrived and proceeded to occupy the hummer’s seat…the hummer flew at the finch until the hummer got his perch back…after all, that was HIS seat and he didn’t want to share…


This tiny bird made his point clear, he was king of the roost …and even a bigger bird was not pushing him off…


God has his throne as well, no one or nothing can ever replace Him…He won’t give it up…He observes the whole earth and all that is in it…


That is a mighty promise and comfort, especially in times of turmoil and just day to day living…He is in control…

 Comfort verses…7…IRS…


Yesterday I had the rare privilege to go to the Federal building and visit the IRS “Care” Center…I had received a letter earlier that couldn’t be dealt with over the phone nor the website…they had to see me in person with a pile of identification pieces…plus some past  tax documents…I took my accountant to answer questions…


They were polite and helpful, checking each piece, asking questions, sorting through the problem online and on the phone…but, was so glad I took an advisor with me to answer their concerns as the IRS person was befuddled on why I even had to be there, as everything was in order on our side, but it seemed not on their side…now another 6 month wait to get a letter of okay…oh, well…a new adventure…


My list of comfort verses I started for my cancer, but they are for day to day living…meeting the oncologist or the IRS agents…

I awaken to these pictures on a nearby bedroom wall each day…I like the variety of shapes and each has a special meaning to me personally…


1. The Gleaners…owned by one of my grandmothers.  I remember it hanging her home forever until I was blessed with it…she was this industrious woman who made something out of nothing it seemed…she had huge gardens, cooked her best pies in a wood burning stove…quilted…weathered adversity…and still had time to make presents for all her children and grandchildren…lived a full life until 92 years…a picture of one of my favorite Biblical stories…redemption, provision, compassion, family….

2. A painting by my mother of a bridge that has withstood floods,  earthquakes and time…built in 1910 over the Eel River, near Ferndale, California…I remember gauging the height of the flooding of the river by how high it was on the bridge…”When built, it was referred to as the "Queen of Bridges" and is still the longest functional poured concrete bridge in operation in the world “

5. Be Still and know that I am God…a reminder each day that God is in control…no matter what…no matter the world condition…no matter my condition…nothing is a surprise to Him…

Happy Father’s Day…

 Happy Father’s Day…


I was blessed (to speak well of, approve) with a great father…

I rarely heard him raise his voice, he loved and honored his own mother and father…he loved my mother, he loved me, he loved his grandchildren, great grandchildren…

he loved God…he cared for those around him, he was honest, hardworking…he loved teaching…he had many, many friends, he was a gentleman, he was respected and respectful…etc, etc…


I married a man who became a great father as well…I looked for a man like my father…


Now, I have sons who are great dads as well…and further a grandson who will is just beginning the same route as a dad…


None were/are perfect…there is only God who fills that role…the epitome of Love…honesty, compassion, honor, provider, etc., etc….


 We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. 

And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. 

Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. 

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 

This is how God showed his love among us: 

He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 

And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. 

We love because he first loved us.

Blessed in the reading…

 Blessed….


I remember years and eons ago when I first read the Book of Revelations….verse 3 caught me…I would be blessed if I read these words aloud…so I did…


I have read this book many times, studied in church, Bible studies …I still do not understand it all, the imagery, all the pictures, etc…but, God wins…He is victorious…and that settles it for me…and reading aloud fills my senses with praise…and I am blessed…


Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.

When you look back through the Word, there are several times that it is read publicly…it causes conviction, praise, celebration, awe…

We still read it aloud in church and it still has those responses…it is living, convicting, praise worthy… 


Just imagine what is was like whenJesus read the Word in the Synagogue…He, who had been there from the beginning, who was the Word…reading out of the sacred scrolls about Himself…would our hearts burned with recognition, or rejection…and we still have the choice now, accept and believe, take heart….or reject and walk away……


 He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written: “The Spirit of the Lord is on me,because he has anointed meto proclaim good news to the poor.He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisonersand recovery of sight for the blind,to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” 

Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him. 

He began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”

 all the people came together as one in the square before the Water Gate. They told Ezra the teacher of the Law to bring out the Book of the Law of Moses, which the Lord had commanded for Israel. 

So on the first day of the seventh month Ezra the priest brought the Law before the assembly, which was made up of men and women and all who were able to understand. He read it aloud from daybreak till noon as he faced the square before the Water Gate in the presence of the men, women and others who could understand. 

And all the people listened attentively to the Book of the Law. Ezra opened the book. 

All the people could see him because he was standing above them; and as he opened it, the people all stood up. Ezra praised the Lord, the great God; and all the people lifted their hands and responded, “Amen! Amen!” 

Then they bowed down and worshiped the Lord with their faces to the ground. 

Day after day, from the first day to the last, Ezra read from the Book of the Law of God. 

They celebrated the festival for seven days, and on the eighth day, in accordance with the regulation, there was an assembly.

 This is the message Jeremiah the prophet gave to the staff officer Seraiah son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, when he went to Babylon with Zedekiah king of Judah in the fourth year of his reign. Jeremiah had written on a scroll about all the disasters that would come upon Babylon—all that had been recorded concerning Babylon. He said to Seraiah, “When you get to Babylon, see that you read all these words aloud. Then say, ‘Lord, you have said you will destroy this place, so that neither people nor animals will live in it; it will be desolate forever.’ When you finish reading this scroll, tie a stone to it and throw it into the Euphrates. Then say, ‘So will Babylon sink to rise no more because of the disaster I will bring on her. And her people will fall.’”The words of Jeremiah end here.

Again…Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.

Renovations….

 Renovations…..


From junior high on, I remember looking at, evaluating, various types homes to possibly purchase…for our home…first, for my parents, then for my own family,  upon widowhood-myself, to build upon, to flip, to sell…


From bare ground, to tear downers, even underground, old train station revocations, mobile homes, you name it, ….some were interesting, some were compelling and some we actually bought…


Some stand out as memorable….one such was an older home, “newly painted”, not updated, really nice location, country living….upon inspection, it was newly painted, but the caveat was that the paint covered up the “disease” that house held…the main floor of the house had been treated for mold, but the crawl space and attic was filled with mold…not a safe place for little children or adults for that matter…..we walked away…


A thorough inspection is a must for housing for purchase…then the decision  is what can you live with…


Reading the letters to the churches in Revelations is that “thorough inspection” and the inspector is One who looks for truth and at the heart of the church…writing His report with due diligence…a report worthy of centuries of perusing…we really haven’t changed….


The Inspector gives a report, what are good things, what needs to be done and a conclusion…a report that each needs to take to heart…what can I live with, what do I need to change…

I will never blot out the name of that person from the book of life, but will acknowledge that name before my Father and his angels.  Daily Reflections from Inside the Cancer Journey

“…and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one” (Ephesians 6:15, 16 NIV).


 When I worked at an adolescent mental health unit, I typically wore dress shoes. On this day I was wearing tennis shoes, since they would be more suitable in a scuffle. A young man with a history of violence had leveled a direct threat to me and a few other staff members the day before. I trusted it was important not to shy away from the young man’s threats. Dressed in my flannel shirt, a leather belt, laced-up tennis shoes, and a trust in God, I was going to work. I had compassion for the young man, realizing he was acting out of fear. However, I was not going to be naïve. I would not provoke him in any way, but I would be ready in case he acted on his promises. 


The Ephesians were living in a predominantly pagan world. The newly formed band of believers was united in their commitment to follow Christ. They were encouraged to be forgiving of one another, even as God in Christ forgave them. Extending forgiveness was a radically different way of life. The pagan society survived on revenge. This young church would need the peace of Christ with them every step of the way. In today’s verse, they were told to shoe their feet “with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.” Christ would empower them to forgive their enemies and walk in love, as Christ also loved them.


The church was also told the shield of faith would quench the fiery darts of the devil. What a powerful image. If there was any question about the devil’s agenda, this instruction should leave no doubt. The devil’s fiery darts are intended to wreak destruction and cause harm to followers of Christ. Only a firm belief in the promises of God fulfilled in Christ would protect them.


The battlefield of cancer is littered with pitfalls and dangers, sometimes even from those who are supposed to be supportive. Rigid counselors and judgmental comforters can cause harm rather than healing. People offering pity rather than prayer and strength can make the journey an uphill climb. Only Christ can enable you to speak and hear words of forgiveness and love when you feel empty. Christ can protect you from others as well as yourself. Christ working within you and through others will deflect the devil’s painful darts of self-accusations. Sometimes I can be my own worst enemy. How about you? May Christ give you the peace to forgive yourself and others. May He provide you with a protective shield of faith so you are ready for battle even when you feel weak and utterly exposed to the world.  


Pray: Lord, only You can help me extend the hand of forgiveness to myself and others. Only You can help me hold the shield of faith as I move forward through this trial. Thank You for being a friend that sticks closer than a brother. Thank You, Lord, for being my “war buddy”. Amen.

Yesterday I spent three hours at the cancer clinic in the morning...another pain killer shot..and talk with cancer doc.. 

best take away from conversation.... ""we are going for a cure for you. So giving you all we have to make that work...so sometimes 

might be tougher...but that is what we expect """😳😀


I thought about the doctor’s statement…isn’t that what Jesus says to us as well…He wants us transformed and that transformation doesn’t necessarily come with no pain, no problems…He talks about count in all joy in various situations…giving thanks in all things…there will be suffering…but….there is reward…there is the end goal…righteousness, eternity with Him…

Comfort verses…5…bone pain…

 Comfort verses…5…Bone pain…


One of the side effects of my chemotherapy is bone/body pain…it is like nothing I have experienced before…like Covid pain on steroids …there is nothing that doesn’t ache/throb…it lasts about 24 hours, relentless…


And then it fades away into a dull ache…I just keep picturing for myself that it is just cooking that cancer away, searching out the cancer cells and blasting them to smithereens …a battle of the good over the bad…needing a good picture to concentrate upon….


 “Or someone may be chastened on a bed of pain with constant distress in their bones,

 On my bed I remember you;I think of you through the watches of the night. 

Because you are my help,I sing in the shadow of your wings. 

I cling to you;your right hand upholds me.

A much better picture to remember…as we wander in the watches of night time pain…He is our help…he is the one we cling to in pain…he upholds us when we are down…when we don’t know how to pray…when the groanings are overwhelming…


 My life is consumed by anguish and my years by groaning;my strength fails because of my affliction,and my bones grow weak.

Ps.31.10


 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.

Rememberance bears…

 Rememberance bears….


I saw an article a while back about rememberance bears, quilts…using clothing of a loved one to make a stuffed bear or quilt…


One widow I met brought all her late husband’s shirts to the quilt shop to have the quilter make several lap-sized quilts for her grandchildren…after my mother passed away, I took her fabric to a quilter to make quilts for my family as well..fun…each one  a treasure I thought..


Lately, I have been assembling bears out of  Pendleton shirts…

My father, my father in law and husband all wore Pendleton shirts…but, I couldn’t bring my self to use their shirts as my family is still wearing them, so found duplicates on eBay…

I have finished 3 and one more to go…

The other day, I painted their eyes and nose on two…the first one I embroidered the nose and eyes…wanted to do buttons, but decided against it as that could be a choking hazard for a child…

But, back to the painted eyes…they were all black, lifeless…so finally I decided to put a twinkle in each eye…made all the difference in the bear’s expression…


All this to say… it reminded me of our Heavenly Father who breathed life into his creation…


 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 

Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. 

So God created mankind in his own image,in the image of God he created them;male and female he created them.

Gen.1.1,2,27


 Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

Gen.2.7


Not that my bears will ever come to life, but, one thing was missing,  that twinkle…or in Mankind’s case, that breath that gave life…and only God could do it…


 “May the Lord, the God who gives breath to all living things,….

 In his hand is the life of every creatureand the breath of all mankind.

 The Spirit of God has made me;the breath of the Almighty gives me life.

Comfort verses…4…


This week marked the halfway mark of my cancer treatments…

So for part of my walking routine, I decided to go to our local rose garden and walk through the blooming bushes, take in the wonderful aromas, take some pictures….the garden is a peak right now….the bees were performing their duties as well…


Wish I could include scents with the pictures, but can’t….not all roses smell the same, in fact, some have very little scent, while others smell citrusy, cinnamony, heavy rosy, light rosy and just plain rosy…

 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. I kept thinking about yesterday’s blog and the opposite of controversy…the antonyms…

There is the love chapter in 1 Corinthians…


 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. Controversy fits in with these verses in Galations 5…

I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

But the opposite fit with these verses in Galations…

Controversy….

I read this quote early this morning…and I had to chuckle…like an arrow aimed at me…I was guilty of grumbling over a controversy….


Yesterday, I spent quite a bit of time trying to get a hold of one of the government offices to answer questions I had recently in the mail…I then went to their suggested website to make it “easier” only to be rejected several times and asked to call “in person” which I did again, only to be told the line was too busy and to call again tomorrow or when lines were less busy. Over and over again…so I tried again early this morning…only to be told the same …grrrrrrr…


Not sure when I will be able to get through and I have to get through according to the correspondence I received….it is imperative…


But, I am glad God has a sense of humor in some of his lessons he allows in our lives…He brings to mind just the right words for our admonishments…

Life and light…

 Life and light…


It is interesting reading John 1 and 1 John 1 together…they both speak of life and light, the Word…the reality of Christ with them, Jesus dwelling with them whom they touched…a firsthand account…real life…a forgiver of sins…



 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 

He was with God in the beginning. 

Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 

In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. …


The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 

He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 

Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. 

The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. 

We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. 

And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. 

We write this to make our joy complete. 

This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 

If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. 

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. 

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 

If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.

Remember when…

 


Remember when….


This video was in my “in “ box this am…this was part of my earliest memories. I thought this was how you did family Sundays…and as I got married and children came along, this was how we did Sundays as well…

I remember when California began to allow businesses to be open on Sundays…how that began the change of the fabric of quiet Sundays….you could now shop any day of the week, people began working on Sundays and you had to ask to have Sundays off…or it just became another workday…nothing special or sacred about it anymore….


(My husband made the observation that he thought having a heating system other than the central wood stove is what drove families apart… with a wood stove as the main heat source families stayed together in one place as the rest of the house was too cold to go off on your own…away from family activities…)


 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.

Matt.28.1


 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” 

After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. 

Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” 

And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.

John.20.19-22


 On the first day of the week we came together to break bread. Paul spoke to the people and, because he intended to leave the next day, kept on talking until midnight.

Acts.20.7


 On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with your income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made.

1Cor.16.2


 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Heb.10.24-25


We still can make those “50’s” Sundays special…those first days of the week, special…attending church, worshiping with fellow believers, learning, giving as we are lead, encouraging one another…

God has stayed the same…society has moved…


 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Heb.13.8
