Psalm 137…tormentors….

 Psalm 137….tormentors….

As I read this psalm, all I could see was pictures of the Holocaust, books I have read about those times…how the Nazis used and abused millions of people…of other countries who have done the same over the thousands of years up to present day…times really haven’t changed…there is evil and good all around us…the evil making fun of the good…

This is not a particularly uplighting psalm….but oh soooo raw…in the feelings of the writer…

But, it harkened back to Psalm 37 as well…the answer is there…”delight yourself in the Lord”…He is the defender…He knows the way…

 By the waters of Babylon,there we sat down and wept,when we remembered Zion. 

On the willows there we hung up our lyres. 

For there our captors required of us songs,and our tormentors, mirth, saying,“Sing us one of the songs of Zion!”

 How shall we sing the Lord's song in a foreign land? 

If I forget you, O Jerusalem,let my right hand forget its skill! 

Let my tongue stick to the roof of my mouth,if I do not remember you,if I do not set Jerusalem above my highest joy! 

Remember, O Lord, against the Edomites the day of Jerusalem,how they said, “Lay it bare, lay it bare,down to its foundations!” 

O daughter of Babylon, doomed to be destroyed,blessed shall he be who repays you with what you have done to us! 

Blessed shall he be who takes your little ones and dashes them against the rock!

Ps.137.1-9

 Fret not yourself because of evildoers;be not envious of wrongdoers! 

For they will soon fade like the grass and wither like the green herb. 

Trust in the Lord, and do good;dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. 

Delight yourself in the Lord,and he will give you the desires of your heart. 

Commit your way to the Lord;trust in him, and he will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light,and your justice as the noonday. 

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him;fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way,over the man who carries out evil devices! 

Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath!Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil. 

For the evildoers shall be cut off,but those who wait for the Lord shall inherit the land. 

In just a little while, the wicked will be no more;though you look carefully at his place, he will not be there. 

but the Lord laughs at the wicked,for he sees that his day is coming.
