Lights again…
Our town had it annual light parade again last night…trucks, trailers, cars, people, floats of all shapes and sizes rolled down the crowed streets one by one for over an hour…participants throwing handfuls of candy…children oohing and aahing at the sights and lights…both secular and religious themes showed their brilliant displays…
We also have a downtown display along the creek, with a fire-breathing dragon, a fishing Santa, with thousands of lights strung through the trees and bridges…a skating rink surrounded by lights as well…
Along the streets, multitudes of homes are set up with their displays as well, even a driver’s guide for the best lighting displays to see….
So we are back to lights again…we use the artificial ones to bring light to our world…but God spoke the original plan into being with infinite creativity…can you imagine being there to see that “light parade” amongst the heavens? It must have been more than amazing…
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
And God saw that the light was good.
And God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night.
And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.
And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night.
And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth.”
And it was so.
And God made the two great lights—the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night—and the stars.
And God set them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness.
And God saw that it was good.
Genesis 1:3-5,14-18
Another lighted place I thought of, was the lamp stand of pure gold in the tabernacle…it’s brilliance reflecting the burning oil in a room lighting the way to the Holy of Holies…turning darkness into light…
You shall make seven lamps for it. And the lamps shall be set up so as to give light on the space in front of it. Its tongs and their trays shall be of pure gold.
Exodus 25:37-38
David speaks of “light” over and over again..moving from lighting the darkness to equating the “Word” as light…
For it is you who light my lamp; the Lord my God lightens my darkness.
Psalm 18:28
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Psalm 119:105
The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple.
Psalm 119:130
Isaiah speaks of darkness and light…finding light after living in darkness…
The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.
Isaiah 9:2
Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.
For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the Lord will arise upon you, and his glory will be seen upon you.
And nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.
The sun shall be no more your light by day, nor for brightness shall the moon give you light; but the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory.
Your sun shall no more go down, nor your moon withdraw itself; for the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your days of mourning shall be ended.
Isaiah 60:1-3,19-20
And Jesus’ words of light..from the Word who dwelt amongst the people…
14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
Matthew 5:14-16
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 8:12
46 I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness.
John 12:46
Paul further speaks of the light…
For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
2 Corinthians 4:6
for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true),
Ephesians 5:8-9p
John…
This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
1 John 1:5,7
And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb.
By its light will the nations walk, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it, And night will be no more.
They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever.
Revelation 21:23-24,22:5
I just gives my goosebumps…from the beginning of God creating light, seeing it was good…to Jesus being the light to the world…to no need for created light because God was the light…
Thank YOU…
