Glass balls…
One of my uncles was a commercial fisherman out of Eureka, California…when he wasn’t fishing for crab or salmon or whatever else he fished for, he supported his family by fixing radiators….every once in awhile we would fear on salmon or Dungeness crabs….what a delight and treat…
For whatever reason, I ended up with two glass ball floats from those fishing expeditions…my grandmother may have had them, and gave them to my mother…not sure, but I treasure them…it reminds me of bygone days of salmon and crab feeds, sitting around dining room tables, cracking crabs, visiting, laughter of challenges of who can hold out the longest before feasting on their accumulated fresh crab meat…
Eating crab became a family tradition for the Christmas season…I need to reinstate it…even when crabs have become higher in price…the fellowship is worth the price…
A friend gave me an antique fishing ball wrapped beautifully in wire for Christmas this year…not knowing all this about me…I was so humbled, honored that she would bestow this treasure on me…it has so much meaning and God stirred her heart to bless me…
Thank YOU…
Those balls have traveled the circuits of the seas and their history is fascinating…no longer manufactured for fishing and replaced with other stuff…but highly treasured…
So I started this with a title of “glass balls”, but so much more is tied to them …value…fellowship…family near and far…God’s creation of the seas and circuits….His faithlessness…His majesticness ….His Gifts…Christmas….thank YOU again…
And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.” So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.”
Genesis 1:20-22
Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory in the heavens.
Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger.
When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor.
You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet: all flocks and herds, and the animals of the wild, the birds in the sky, and the fish in the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas.
Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
Psalm 8:1-9
The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters.
Psalm 24:1-2
How many are your works, Lord! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number— living things both large and small.
Psalm 104:24-25
He is the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them— he remains faithful forever.
Psalm 146:6
Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise from the ends of the earth, you who go down to the sea, and all that is in it, you islands, and all who live in them.
Isaiah 42:10
When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God. “Sovereign Lord,” they said, “you made the heavens and the earth and the sea, and everything in them.
Acts 4:24
