Uncovering plaques...
I was reading recently that England's Queen's husband, Philip, is retiring from his official duties soon...he is in his nineties as is she..
He has performed 22,000+ official duties since their marriage began...plus fathered children, been her companion, confidant, but has been in the background, supporting her role as queen for many years...
One comment he made was, "I have gotten really good at unveiling plaques" as part of his official duties over the years...
That comment struck my funny bone, even though there is serious need for persons who are given the duty of "unveiling plaques"... Those people, who in the background, serve others without complaint...those mothers and fathers who night after night rise to take care of little ones...or wait for that teenager to come home late....or caregivers, working around the clock...janitors, who polish the walls of schools, government buildings....bus driverrs, who safely transport millions of children to and from school...secretaries who know a business in and out to help build up the owners....the street cleaners, snow plowman, electricians, who keep things running smoothly...background people we never acknowledge...the people listed in the credits of a movie that made the picture work...the laborers who get us our veggies and fruit...the missionaries working in far away fields of ministry...etc., etc., etc......the unknown and little talked about who labor...who know how to unveil plaques well...their jobs are so very important...
Thank YOU for the labor You have each of us, the path you have prepared...help me to do my part well, diligently....for your service..where our Hope is..
Psalm 128:1-2 Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in obedience to him.
You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours.
Ecclesiastes 5:18 This is what I have observed to be good: that it is appropriate for a person to eat, to drink and to find satisfaction in their toilsome labor under the sun during the few days of life God has given them—for this is their lot.
1 Corinthians 3:8-9 The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor.
For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.
1 Timothy 4:10 That is why we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, and especially of those who believe.
