Eating the foods....Israel 7...

Eating the foods...Israel 7...

This site popped up this morning and I knew what I wanted to share today...I wrote down a lot of titles and ideas in the few days we traveled...not knowing which would come to fruition....so it is fun to see where God takes me each day...am humbled that people read these and even more humbled that God gives me the ideas...

As I have travelled here and there and even at home, I love to try new foods...maybe not quite as exotic as the foodie, Andrew Zimmer, but the everyday foods of places I go....

This article talks about fish for one...the day we crossed the Sea of Galilee on an old boat, visiting a museum housing an ancient boat from Christ’s time, we stopped by a restaurant featuring St. Peter’s fish...the place sat at the edge of the sea, (we could walk to it across the lawn)...

Tilapia, a common fish of the area was served with fresh bread, salad...hmmm good...😊

Each morning the buffet of choices was wonderful...I tried as many new things as possible...fish was always there with a variety of vegetables-cooked and uncooked, whole grain breads, nuts, seeds, fruits-fresh or dried....of course there were the typical cold cereals, Eggs, American and European fare as well, plus Asian foods...as we shared the space with people from all over the world...

For lunch, we usually ate falafel with a plates of salads...one day we were in Palestinian area, so we ate a special lunch of chicken, vegetables, rice cooked slowly in an iron pot...we also tried Zaatar spices on oil dipped bread...humm good( I brought some home with me to use and share...

Hummus was basically at every meal..so good...
Soft and hard cheeses of all kinds...

Dinners were, lamb, beef, chicken, fish fixed in various ways...salads, an assortment of olives, fruits...plus an assortment of small two bite desserts...

My favorite sweet-halvah, a sesame, honey “candy”...I brought some back as well..

That all said, the “Mediterranean diet” was so body satisfying...would love to carry it on at home...

As we ate by the sea, fish and fresh bread...I couldn’t help but visualize Jesus fixing the disciples the fish over the fire...or the child offering his lunch of fish and bread...so typical...both to multiply the Word to the World...with abundance...thank YOU...

But he answered, “You give them something to eat.” They said to him, “That would take more than half a year’s wages! Are we to go and spend that much on bread and give it to them to eat?” 38 “How many loaves do you have?” he asked. “Go and see.” When they found out, they said, “Five—and two fish.” Then Jesus directed them to have all the people sit down in groups on the green grass. So they sat down in groups of hundreds and fifties. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to his disciples to distribute to the people. He also divided the two fish among them all. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces of bread and fish. The number of the men who had eaten was five thousand.
Mark 6:37-44

When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip,  “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?” He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do. Philip answered him, “It would take more than half a year’s wages to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!” Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up, “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?” Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down (about five thousand men were there). Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish. When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, “Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.” So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.
John 6:5-13

“I’m going out to fish,” Simon Peter told them, and they said, “We’ll go with you.” So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing. Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus. He called out to them, “Friends, haven’t you any fish?” “No,” they answered. He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish. Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, “It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water.
The other disciples followed in the boat, towing the net full of fish, for they were not far from shore, about a hundred yards. When they landed, they saw a fire of burning coals there with fish on it, and some bread. Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish you have just caught.” So Simon Peter climbed back into the boat and dragged the net ashore. It was full of large fish, 153, but even with so many the net was not torn. Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” None of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. Jesus came, took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish. This was now the third time Jesus appeared to his disciples after he was raised from the dead.
When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.” Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.” The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep. 18 Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, “Follow me!”
