Gold again......

Gold again....

One of the commodities for which my husband searched diligently was gold..."there is gold in them thar hills".....

His father, a logger, saw worth on top of the ground with a stand of trees, my husband looked below the surface for minerals, especially gold...his father always made a point of saying " if you can turn a dollar by digging in the soil, more power to you, I will sell the trees, something I can see".

As I watch the gold prices tumble down again, I am reminded that God is my portion, not gold...He is the ultimate provider...we may be beginning that downturn in gold prices which happens about every 10 years...there seems to a cycle of high prices followed by low prices and back up again about every ten years, give or take a few years...for whatever reason ....supply and demand...soft dollar...string dollar....gas prices up or down....we can try to decide and analyze why forever, but it just happens anyway....

The Egyptians gave their gold to the Israelites as they were leaving Egypt and then the Israelites in turn gave that over for the building of the tabernacle in the desert...
Later, Solomon built the temple with gold gathered and given by his father, David...plates, walls, utensils, and on and on in each building overlaid or made with pure gold...

We have treasured gold for eons of time..using it for currency, decoration, teeth, pavement in heaven,  etc...we hold on to it, hoard it, worship it ...when God is our true treasure ....

Thank YOU for the treasure in You...help me keep the right perspective in treasures...and not to look to other things to replace You...You alone are worthy of praise and worship....

Genesis 13:2 Abram had become very wealthy in livestock and in silver and gold.

Exodus 12:35-36 The Israelites did as Moses instructed and asked the Egyptians for articles of silver and gold and for clothing. The Lord had made the Egyptians favorably disposed toward the people, and they gave them what they asked for; so they plundered the Egyptians.

Exodus 20:23 Do not make any gods to be alongside me; do not make for yourselves gods of silver or gods of gold.

Exodus 25:17-18 “Make an atonement cover of pure gold—two and a half cubits long and a cubit and a half wide. And make two cherubim out of hammered gold at the ends of the cover.

2 Samuel 8:11 King David dedicated these articles to the Lord, as he had done with the silver and gold from all the nations he had subdued:

1 Kings 6:28, 30, 32 He overlaid the cherubim with gold. He also covered the floors of both the inner and outer rooms of the temple with gold. And on the two olive-wood doors he carved cherubim, palm trees and open flowers, and overlaid the cherubim and palm trees with hammered gold.

1 Kings 10:14, 20, 23, 25 The weight of the gold that Solomon received yearly was 666 talents, Twelve lions stood on the six steps, one at either end of each step. Nothing like it had ever been made for any other kingdom. King Solomon was greater in riches and wisdom than all the other kings of the earth. Year after year, everyone who came brought a gift—articles of silver and gold, robes, weapons and spices, and horses and mules.

Job 22:25-28 then the Almighty will be your gold, the choicest silver for you. Surely then you will find delight in the Almighty and will lift up your face to God. You will pray to him, and he will hear you,and you will fulfill your vows. What you decide on will be done, and light will shine on your ways.

Psalm 19:8-10 The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes. The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever. The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb.
