"Who are we making these flower arrangements for?"
The question was asked as we had a refresher course at the Bloom Project center yesterday...
"They are going to palliative care patients, the hospice center patients, any number of places where hospice patients are residing....so think of that person....what would they enjoy...what colors go together for beauty in that room....to give that person a bit of joy in these days..."
I added in my heart, "and pray for that person and their family"....
I remember entering my dad's room the week before he passed away, and there stood a vase of flowers, oranges and yellows, bright and cheery....I know I enjoyed them....and I appreciated someone's prayers at this stressful and painful time...
I went from the class, driving down the street almost passing an estate sale in a retirement area, turning to join the throngs of people wandering through the home...
It was like answering the first question in real life ....
-She liked blue...
-must have enjoyed cooking...lots of cookware and cookbooks...
-did a lot of different kinds of crafts...
-enjoyed the holidays...
-enjoyed entertaining...
- may have traveled , as there were various travel books and trinkets...
-liked art, with several oil paintings by different artists ....
- about my parent's age....
-no pets...
This may have been one of the people we arranged flowers for....it didn't quite put a face, but it put a personality to the arrangement...a heart....to those who receive those arrangements...
I am so glad God gave us flowers to cheer those dreary days, to say "I love you" or "I am thinking of you" or whatever message we choose...but to encourage others or sometimes even ourselves....a message of beauty and care...
Thank YOU for pictures of service.....people...along our paths in whatever way You have for us to serve...
Genesis 1:11-12 Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so. The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
Luke 12:27 “Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.
Song of Songs 2:12New International Version (NIV)
12 Flowers appear on the earth;
the season of singing has come,
the cooing of doves
is heard in our land.
the season of singing has come,
the cooing of doves
is heard in our land.
