Sunday is here…

Sunday is here….

I arose before the dawn as is my custom…thinking of those women so long ago …

Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men. But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.” So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. And behold, Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.”

Matt.28.1-10

When the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb. And they were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?” And looking up, they saw that the stone had been rolled back—it was very large. And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe, and they were alarmed. And he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.” And they went out and fled from the tomb, for trembling and astonishment had seized them, and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.

 Mark.16.1-8

But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.” And they remembered his words, and returning from the tomb they told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest. Now it was Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James and the other women with them who told these things to the apostles, but these words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them. But Peter rose and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw the linen cloths by themselves; and he went home marveling at what had happened.

Luke.24.1-12

Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb. So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.” So Peter went out with the other disciple, and they were going toward the tomb. Both of them were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. And stooping to look in, he saw the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in. Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen cloths lying there, and the face cloth, which had been on Jesus' head, not lying with the linen cloths but folded up in a place by itself. Then the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed; for as yet they did not understand the Scripture, that he must rise from the dead. Then the disciples went back to their homes.

20.1-10

They may have had a hard time sleeping, thinking about what they needed to do at first light, or pondering the preceding days …getting all the spices ready to anoint Jesus body as it lay in the tomb…but what they found in the garden was not their expectation….

They wondered who was going to get past the posted guard, who would move that heavy heavy stone…

But , instead they found the stone rolled away, the  human guard gone, replaced with an angel/angels in dazzling white…no body to anoint… clothes discarded…the face cloth neatly folded in its place(the meaning of folded cloth was I am returning)…

Words of encouragement spoken…”He is risen!…why seek the living among the dead?…He has gone to,Galilee where you will find him….”

Imagine their astonishment, their hearts racing in excitement, their minds in wonderment, replaying Jesus’ words, the angel’s words…waiting to tell the disciples…this was beyond amazing, beyond comprehension…this was the miracle…He was alive…

John 11:25-26: "Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?'"

Romans 6:9: “For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him.”

1 Peter 1:3: “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”

2 Corinthians 5:17: "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!"

John 20:29: “Then Jesus told him, ‘Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.’”

Isaiah 25:6-9: “On this mountain the Lord Almighty will prepare a feast of rich food for all peoples, a banquet of aged wine—the best of meats and the finest of wines. On this mountain he will destroy the shroud that enfolds all peoples, the sheet that covers all nations; he will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove his people’s disgrace from all the earth. The Lord has spoken. In that day they will say, ‘Surely this is our God; we trusted in him, and he saved us. This is the Lord, we trusted in him; let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation.’”

Thank YOU….

What about Saturday?

 What about Saturday ?

The day after His death…

Having gone through the deaths of my closest…mom, dad, husband…the day after was surreal in some ways…there is the sense they will still call, come through the door…a numbness of the mind…you are working in automatic motions…maybe packing, readying for the next move…making arrangements…writing an obituary, talking to those around you, a quietness…a sense that this could not be happening and  it is all a dream…surely you will awaken and life will be normal again…a denial…a “how could this be”…or even a guilty relief of release from the hard caregiving…

We have the history and the Word which tells us what the expectation of waiting for Resurrection Sunday…we know that Christ arose…it says so…

But the people who watched him say, “it is finished” and die on the cross hadn’t experienced Sunday yet…it was their day of rest by Jewish tradition \law…they had to wait to anoint his body for burial until Sunday…

But, it had already been anointed…he was ready…

“ Now when Jesus was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, a woman came up to him with an alabaster flask of very expensive ointment, and she poured it on his head as he reclined at table. And when the disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, “Why this waste? For this could have been sold for a large sum and given to the poor.” But Jesus, aware of this, said to them, “Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a beautiful thing to me. For you always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me. In pouring this ointment on my body, she has done it to prepare me for burial. Truly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her.”

Matt 26:6-13

I can imagine the women waiting to anoint Jesus’ body were a bit antsy to finish their job of anointing…they wanted to clean him up from his horrible ordeal…put to rest this awful time…but, they had to wait…that hard thing to do for most of us…

Wait for the Lord;be strong, and let your heart take courage;wait for the Lord!

Ps.27.14

I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; my soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning, more than watchmen for the morning.

Ps.130.5-6

Thank YOU….

“Holy Saturday is referred to in each Gospel, but Luke gives a glimpse into the law behind this specific day. Luke 23:55 shares, “As his body was taken away, the women from Galilee followed and saw the tomb where his body was placed. Then they went

home and prepared spices and ointments to anoint his body. But by the time they were finished the Sabbath had begun, so they rested as required by the law."

Saturday in Jewish tradition is the Sabbath, so it was against the law of the land for the women to place the oils and spices they had prepared for the body. This timing is no coincidence, for after the Sabbath is over at the dawn of Sunday they attempt to go and honor the body again, and it is then in Luke 24 that the glorious miracle is revealed that indeed Jesus was true to His word to rise again.”

“Holy Saturday is the name given to the day between Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Some Christians recognize Holy Saturday, the seventh day of Holy Week, as the day on which Jesus “rested” from His work of providing salvation. As Jesus died, He called out, “It is finished!” There was no further price to pay; sin had been atoned for.”

Good?…Friday…?

 Good ? Friday …?

Reading Hebrews 11, the “faith” chapter and adding the “therefore” in chapter 12…

We watched “The Passion” movie in the theater when it came out years ago…dead silence at the end as we filed out…

My husband had the privilege to show the move, “the Jesus Film” based on the book of Luke in Mongolia for a part of a summer…

I got to around a small piece of the Yucatán Peninsula,  showing the film to villagers…

Have watched others watch the movie…

When the drama of the crucifixion, the horribleness of it hits the screen, people are stunned, crying for the man who bore the pain, the agony….

it is hard to process the “good”….

We need the “therefore”…

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Heb.12.1-2

For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

2Cor.5.21

Matthew 27

Mark 15

Luke 23

John 19

Thursday of Holy Week…

 Thursday of Holy Week….

Reading this passage in Hebrews 10, written after the fact of Jesus’ life here on earth was just a reminder of the Last Supper…

There must have been some laughter, camaraderie, more friendship building around the table as well as very serious matters….

We call it the Last Supper, but did the disciples? I doubt it…Jesus knew…He knew the gravity of the time, He knew the giving of himself was at hand…he knew the sacrifice…he knew the victory…he knew the pain…but, he encouraged each one, he stirred up each one as His day approached…

We don’t know when our day is approaching, but, we can still encourage one another…we can stir up one another to love and good works…

Thank YOU…

Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

High Priest…for each…

 High Priest….for each…

We are going through the book of Hebrews in our local Women’s Bible study…

How appropriate for Easter week…

23 The former priests were many in number, because they were prevented by death from continuing in office, 24 but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever. 25 Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost[b] those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.

Hebrews 7:23-25

“The most important duty of the high priest was to conduct the service on the Day of Atonement, the tenth day of the seventh month of every year. Only he was allowed to enter the Most Holy Place behind the veil to stand before God. Having made a sacrifice for himself and for the people, he then brought the blood into the Holy of Holies and sprinkled it on the mercy seat, God’s “throne” (Leviticus 16:14-15). He did this to make atonement for himself and the people for all their sins committed during the year just ended (Exodus 30:10). It is this particular service that is compared to the ministry of Jesus as our High Priest (Hebrews 9:1-28).

In understanding the role of the high priest, we can better comprehend the significance of Christ offering Himself for our sins once for all (Hebrews 9:26; 10:10, 12). Through Christ’s sacrifice for us, we are sanctified and set apart for Him. By entering God’s presence on our behalf, Christ has secured for us an “eternal redemption” (Hebrews 9:12). As Paul has written, “For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:5). “

Thinking about his intercession, in John 17, one of my favorite chapters in the Bible…The High Priestly Prayer… one of the many things Jesus does during his last earthly week…he prays for us…

17 When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, 2 since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. 3 And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.

4 I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do.

5 And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed.

6 “I have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world. Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word.

7 Now they know that everything that you have given me is from you.

8 For I have given them the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me.

9 I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world but for those whom you have given me, for they are yours.

10 All mine are yours, and yours are mine, and I am glorified in them.

11 And I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one. 12 While I was with them, I kept them in your name, which you have given me. I have guarded them, and not one of them has been lost except the son of destruction, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.

13 But now I am coming to you, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves.

14 I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 15 I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one.[a]

16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them[b] in the truth; your word is truth.

18 As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world.

19 And for their sake I consecrate myself,[c] that they also may be sanctified[d] in truth.

20 “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, 21 that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.

22 The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, 23 I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.

24 Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world.

25 O righteous Father, even though the world does not know you, I know you, and these know that you have sent me.

26 I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.”

Thank YOU….

Trials….

 Trials….

These three verses came up this week, two together and one separately
..but, they spoke to me personally…

…..And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”
Esth.4.14b

Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.
Jas.1.12

Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.
1Pet.4.12-13

First, my oldest grandson preaches today…for me, I wouldn’t have slept all night, thinking of better and better ways to say the words he has chosen…
Praying the message  was what God wanted to say….wondering if my clothes, hair are right….etc.

Thinking of some I know that are going through trials, whether for their faith, their health, their family…etc…

Thirdly, I found out the big “C” word has entered my life. Visiting the doctor for something else, I thought, I was quickly on the surgeon’s table losing organs I apparently didn’t need anymore, only to find that cancer had invaded…they are pretty sure they got it, but still have to go through 6 rounds of chemotherapy, “insurance” they say…

All trials, of different proportions, different outcomes, different reasons, different difficulty…but trials…but part our plan designed by God …no surprises for Him…

Rejoicing, giving thanks may be a bit difficult to do at times…our emotions lagging behind our will to give thanks…but to know peace that is what we are instructed to do….

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.
Let your reasonableness be known to everyone.
The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Phil.4.4-7

Thank YOU….

When my world is torn asunder…

Praise You in the storm….

Doubts and obedience…

 Doubts and obedience…

Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.
Heb.7.25

I like that word “uttermost”…maximum, extreme..outmost, supreme, ultimate…to me, it has promise that there is not limit…

It brought to mind Hezekiah and Isaiah in Isaiah 36-37…
The king of Assyria had come to take Judah, taking down to town after town until his army came to Jerusalem…

And the Rabshakeh said to them, “Say to Hezekiah, ‘Thus says the great king, the king of Assyria: On what do you rest this trust of yours? Do you think that mere words are strategy and power for war? In whom do you now trust, that you have rebelled against me? Behold, you are trusting in Egypt, that broken reed of a staff, which will pierce the hand of any man who leans on it. Such is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him.
Then the Rabshakeh stood and called out in a loud voice in the language of Judah: “Hear the words of the great king, the king of Assyria! Thus says the king: ‘Do not let Hezekiah deceive you, for he will not be able to deliver you. Do not let Hezekiah make you trust in the Lord by saying, “The Lord will surely deliver us. This city will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.” Do not listen to Hezekiah. For thus says the king of Assyria: Make your peace with me and come out to me. Then each one of you will eat of his own vine, and each one of his own fig tree, and each one of you will drink the water of his own cistern, until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and wine, a land of bread and vineyards.
Beware lest Hezekiah mislead you by saying, “The Lord will deliver us.”
Has any of the gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria? Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? Have they delivered Samaria out of my hand? Who among all the gods of these lands have delivered their lands out of my hand, that the Lord should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?’”
Isa.36.4-6, 13-20

As soon as King Hezekiah heard it, he tore his clothes and covered himself with sackcloth and went into the house of the Lord.
When the servants of King Hezekiah came to Isaiah, Isaiah said to them, “Say to your master, ‘Thus says the Lord: Do not be afraid because of the words that you have heard, with which the young men of the king of Assyria have reviled me.
Isa.37.1, 5-6

I don’t know about anyone else, but I have times of doubting…when questions assail me, Satan’s darts ping around trying to cause doubts, cause uncertainty, cause unrest, cause confusion…just like the Assyrian king’s assistant was doing to the people of Jerusalem…

I loved Isaiah words…”do not be afraid because of the words you have heard”…
God has a plan…”He is able to save  to the uttermost”…

Thank YOU….

Saved, saved…

An anchor…

 An anchor…

We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain,
Heb.6.19

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.”
 Jer.17.7-8

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.
He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.
Ps.1:1-3

Will your anchor hold….

Packing to move…

Packing to move…

Twelve years ago, we decided to move from Elko, Nevada to Bend, Oregon. This way we were closer to family during the last days of my husband’s cancer..no more treatments just a meds for comfort…
So I spent time packing up things for immediate use and care for us, closed down our home and the temporary apartment…friends came to help, to say goodbye, to wish us well through this phase of life…we appreciated each visit, even though they were laced with tears of sorrow and farewells…this would be the last time they saw my husband alive…

The theme of each day was “trust Me, one day at a time…trust is not a natural response especially for those who have been deeply wounded…exert your will to trust Me in all circumstances…I will equip you to get through this day victoriously….” Jesus Calling , Sarah Young…

These same people who came and visited, plus so many more would yet make one more memorial visit two months later for a memorial service…
Their friendship and care throughout the hard times was so amazing…a true gift…that gave over and over…

The song for those days, one of my husband's favorites…
Crucified with Christ…

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
Rom.15.13

A friend loves at all times,…
Prov.17.17a

O Lord of hosts, blessed is the one who trusts in you!
Ps.84.12

“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
Matt.6.34

Rest in My Presence….

 Rest in My Presence…

Twelve years ago, that was the theme for the day…a little over a month later  my husband would succumb to the deadly cancer which was slowly  taking over his brain…

“Learn to live  above your circumstances… this requires focused time with Me, the one  who overcame the world…trouble and distress are woven into the very fabric of life of this perishing world..only My Life in you can empower you to face this endless flow of problems with good cheer…
As you sit quietly in My Presence, I shine Peace into your troubled mind and heart. Little by little, you are freed from earthly shackles and lifted up above your circumstances. You gain My perspective in your life, enabling you to distinguish between what is important and what is not.
Rest in My Presence, receiving Joy that no one can take away from you….”
Jesus Calling, A 365 Day journaling Devotional by Sarah Young.

So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace.
In the world you will have tribulation.
But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
John.16.22,33

I was asking wisdom for doing the right things at the right time for those days ahead…we moved shortly after this from Elko, Nevada to Bend, Oregon…closer to family and 24 hour care, I couldn’t do it anymore…

Those were hard days, but God was good…friends popped by almost daily. Our apartment was attached to our offices, so people were coming and going…which was good for  morale and encouragement…I could go to our home and work a bit while someone sat with Don…
On one of those quick trips was the first time I heard “Blessing “ lived and written by Laura Story..I remember pulling over to the side of the road and just sobbing hearing her words…

God uses so many circumstances to bring us closer to Him…

Thank YOU…

Blessing…

I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lordin the land of the living!
Ps.27.13

Rejoice in the Lord….

 Rejoice in the Lord…

After battling my blankets all night tossing and turning, I opened my Bible to today’s passage….the words popped out…”Rejoice in the Lord”
In both Philippians 3 and 4…

“Finally, my brothers, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you is no trouble to me and is safe for you.
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at length you have revived your concern for me.
You were indeed concerned for me, but you had no opportunity.
Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content.
I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound.
In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need.
I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”
Phil.3.1,Phil.4.4-13

Of course I had to look up other passages that repeated the same/similar phrase…what was the other rejoicing?  And why? And they start way back in Exodus…
And Jethro rejoiced for all the good that the Lord had done to Israel, in that he had delivered them out of the hand of the Egyptians.
Exod.18.9

And there you shall eat before the Lord your God, and you shall rejoice, you and your households, in all that you undertake, in which the Lord your God has blessed you.
And you shall rejoice before the Lord your God, you and your sons and your daughters, your male servants and your female servants, and the Levite that is within your towns, since he has no portion or inheritance with you.
but you shall eat them before the Lord your God in the place that the Lord your God will choose, you and your son and your daughter, your male servant and your female servant, and the Levite who is within your towns. And you shall rejoice before the Lord your God in all that you undertake.
Deut.12.7, 12, 18

And Hannah prayed and said,“My heart exults in the Lord;my horn is exalted in the Lord.My mouth derides my enemies, because I rejoice in your salvation.
1Sam.2.1

Glory in his holy name;let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice! Seek the Lord and his strength;seek his presence continually!
1Chr.16.10-11

Then my soul will rejoice in the Lord, exulting in his salvation.
Ps.35.9

May my meditation be pleasing to him,for I rejoice in the Lord.
Ps.104.34

This is the day that the Lord has made;let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Ps.118.24

I will greatly rejoice in the Lord;my soul shall exult in my God,for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation;he has covered me with the robe of righteousness,as a bridegroom decks himself like a priest with a beautiful headdress, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
Isa.61.10

Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail-and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold-and there be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord;I will take joy in the God of my salvation.
Hab.3.17-18

In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will.
Luke.10.21

For safety, salvation, care, hidden things, new days….so many reasons…”in everything “…

Thank YOU…

Rejoice…

Be a light…

 Be a light…

Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.
Phil.2.14-16

For you are my lamp, O Lord, and my God lightens my darkness.
2Sam.22.29

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Ps.119.105

The light of the righteous rejoices….
Prov.13.9a

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
Matt.5.14-16

Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us.
2Cor.5.20a

And finally, one of my favorites on light…no need for electricity, solar, batteries…all those things we depend upon for light in our world…but God’s unending, never-failing/fading light…of which we have a part of…

And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb.
Rev.21.23

Thank YOU…

Psalm 145…

 Psalm 145…

This psalm just spoke to me this morning…in so many levels…
Need for praise, need for courage, need for comfort, need for encouragement…

I will extol you, my God and King, and bless your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever.
Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable.
One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts.
On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate.
They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds, and I will declare your greatness.
They shall pour forth the fame of your abundant goodness and shall sing aloud of your righteousness.
The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
The Lord is good to all,and his mercy is over all that he has made.
All your works shall give thanks to you, O Lord, and all your saints shall bless you!
They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom and tell of your power, to make known to the children of man your mighty deeds, and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures throughout all generations.
[The Lord is faithful in all his words and kind in all his works.]
The Lord upholds all who are falling and raises up all who are bowed down.
The eyes of all look to you,and you give them their food in due season. You open your hand;you satisfy the desire of every living thing.
The Lord is righteous in all his ways and kind in all his works.
The Lord is near to all who call on him,to all who call on him in truth.
He fulfills the desire of those who fear him;he also hears their cry and saves them.
The Lord preserves all who love him,but all the wicked he will destroy.
Ps.145

Thank YOU…

In all my remembrance….

 In all my remembrance…

Having several missionary friends, I watch as they come and go to their countries where they serve…it is hard to leave both ways sometimes…to come back to the States…but they are eager to return to their places they serve and eager to be with family here…

One friend recently came back and she is eager to return after visiting family and friends, burying her mother, playing with grandchildren…her call to her “children” in Africa is strong as she ministers to them…

Another is returning from their visit with friends they ministered to for years as they translated the Word…a wonderful reunion, encouraging others, but now coming “home” to the states…

Both were eager to come home and eager to leave…am sure, without a doubt they thank God in their remembrance of they people they left behind…both ways…

As I read Philippians, Paul wrote…

I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now.
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
It is right for me to feel this way about you all, because I hold you in my heart, for you are all partakers with me of grace, both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel.
What then?
Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth,
Christ is proclaimed, and in that I rejoice. To Live Is Christ, Yes and I will rejoice,
Phil.1.3-7, 18

He had stayed in Philippi, met people there who responded to the gospel and he still yearns for their joy, encouraging them that God completes his work in each one….

We have the same encouragements in our lives now…
God is at work and will complete it …no matter the continent…just as he did in the people of Philippi…

Thank YOU….

Acts 16….speaks of Paul’s time in Philippi….from the conversion of Lydia to
being jailed, the conversion of the jailer and his family, taken before the magistrate, let go…

“And when Paul had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go on into Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.
So, setting sail from Troas, we made a direct voyage to Samothrace, and the following day to Neapolis, and from there to Philippi, which is a leading city of the district of Macedonia and a Roman colony.
We remained in this city some days.
And on the Sabbath day we went outside the gate to the riverside, where we supposed there was a place of prayer, and we sat down and spoke to the women who had come together.
One who heard us was a woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a seller of purple goods, who was a worshiper of God.
The Lord opened her heart to pay attention to what was said by Paul.
And after she was baptized, and her household as well, she urged us, saying, “If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come to my house and stay.” And she prevailed upon us…
Acts.16.10-15

For you yourselves know, brothers, that our coming to you was not in vain. But though we had already suffered and been shamefully treated at Philippi, as you know, we had boldness in our God to declare to you the gospel of God in the midst of much conflict. For our appeal does not spring from error or impurity or any attempt to deceive, but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not to please man, but to please God who tests our hearts.

Sheep, sheep and more sheep…

 Sheep, sheep and more sheep….

Yesterday part of the sheep made it through Caldwell…
I sat watching their  quiet trek in the chilly morning…amazing to see so many…”they started from Melba on March 1st and the come through Caldwell then Emmett, the Midvale, then McCall, where they summer, in the fall they come back in reverse …to Melba where they winter.”

One of my grandfathers raised sheep, my dad started out with sheep, my husband raised sheep, we had sheep for awhile…
I remember  helping my grandfather with a cousin or two getting down into the huge burlap bags stomping the fleeces down tightly during and after stirring the sheep…the smell of lanolin permeating the building and us..

The first time sheep are recalling mentioned was in Genesis,
“Abel was a keeper of sheep…”
And they are all the way throughout the Bible until the book of Revelations…
For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”
Rev.7.17

Moses married a shepherdess, Rachel was a shepherdess…
David was a shepherd as was Abraham, Job, Moses…and many other Biblical men…

Sheep were an integral part of the worship ….

Some favorites…not in any particular order…and by no means all of the references…

But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.
To him the gatekeeper opens.
The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.
When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.
So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. I am the good shepherd.
The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
I am the good shepherd.
I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.
John.10.2-4,7,11,14-15

Know that the Lord, he is God!It is he who made us, and we are his;we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Ps.100.3

All we like sheep have gone astray;we have turned—every one—to his own way;and the Lord has laid on himthe iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth;like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent,so he opened not his mouth.
Isa.53.6-7

Matthew 18
John 21

Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
Heb.13.20-21

Shepherds…
A question I ask of people when going to a new church…”is this pastor a good shepherd?”…
shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.
1Pet.5.2-4

Luke 2:8-20
Micah 5
Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me-all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Lamb….

Abraham said, “God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” So they went both of them together.
Gen.22.8

and he looked at Jesus as he walked by and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!”
John.1.36

Cleanse out the old leaven that you may be a new lump, as you really are unleavened. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.
1Cor.5.7

saying with a loud voice, “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain,to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and  honor and glory and blessing!”
Rev.5.12

Thank YOU…

Come let us worship and bow down…

Some fun facts…
Sheep have rectangular pupils which means they can see almost everything around them without turning their heads.
There are 1000 breeds of sheep.
Sheep are actually clever animals. They can recognize up to 50 other sheep faces up to 2 years and even recognize human faces!
One way sheep communicate with each other and their surroundings is through scent. Sheep have scent glands in front of their eyes and between the digits of their hooves.”
