Jars of jelly....

Jars of jelly....

The other day I was cleaning out a jar of jelly, homemade Montana huckleberry, and it brought to mind hundreds of of jars of jelly over my life time...

Both of my grandmothers made jelly with whatever fruits were available where they lived..fig, apple, plums, blackberry, ....those smells going to their homes during my childhood still being wonderful childhood memories  of days gone by...warm fresh jelly on a biscuit or a piece of fresh bread...
One grandmother made a dozen jars for each son or grandson every Christmas, a much anticipated gift...

Then my mother made jellies and jams as well with whatever was on hand wherever we lived..to be slathered on school lunch sandwiches ....hummmm good..

Then over the years I have made jams and jellies of various kinds to be consumed my family as well or to be given away as gifts...

Now my some of my children have taken up the job as well....trying new recipes as well as tried and true ones...

Now, We can go to the grocery stores or import shops and buy jellies and jams from all the world, but there is nothing quite like that homemade gift or creation by our own hands...

It was another reminder of God's Word.  We are to hand it down generation after generation..nurturing and mentoring those who are coming after us.
Relishing it's sweet savor, using it in daily life, gifting it to those around us...passing it on...so that we use it all the time...so that it permeates our being...with sweetness to our souls...

We can take it with us to foreign nations, give it away, add it to our daily diet, enjoy it...passing on the recipes of life we have gleamed from it pages...we can remember who gave it to us and thank them for it...

All from simple taste of homemade Jelly, a reminder to enjoy the sweetness of the Word...

Thank YOU so much for loving us from generation to generation....making a your Word just as sweet to our souls as it was generations ago...

Deuteronomy 7:9 Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.

Proverbs 16:24 Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.

Psalm 119:103 How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

Psalm 45:17 I will perpetuate your memory through all generations; therefore the nations will praise you for ever and ever.

Psalm 145:4 One generation commends your works to another; they tell of your mighty acts.
