Happy birthday, mom....
Today, I know is Memorial Day, 2014. But it is also my mom's birthday.
I remember as a child, we would get together as a family and celebrate my uncle's, my cousin's and my mother's May birthdays all at once...the weather sometimes cooperated with sunshine and we had outdoor potlucks. When it was rainy, we would gather inside, visit, eat, laugh, and generally have a great fellowship time with one another...cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents...all ages, interests...but family...
If it was at my grandmother's, we cousins would go upstairs to the attic....where we would play in the trunks, and stuff there...when I saw the movie, "little women"....that was my grandmothers attic....
Mom's last birthday in 2010 was quieter. She was having constant headaches from a fall she had taken..but still some gathered..we didn't know it was her last birthday ....here....she had decided to have surgery to fix the headaches....so that it what we were aiming for...she was still teaching art lessons, painting as usual...just with pain...
May is Mother's Day, mom's birthday and Memorial Day all rolled into one month...now I have added three grandchildren's birthdays as well...all great days...
We need to remember Mother's Day for all the mothers in the world...and our world...
We need to remember Memorial Day for the soldiers who have fought for our country's freedom and continue to do so...
We need to celebrate those birthdays as well....those fellowship times, family building times..for laughter, fellowship, memories....we never know when they may be the last...
So get out the flags, the balloons, the birthday cakes, the barbecue ....the paper plates, the plasticware,...the love, the caring..and enjoy the time spent together....
Thank YOU for fellowship, family, times spent together,....
