Godly contentment….
We were studying 2 Samuel 7, a pivotal chapter…God’s promises to David that affect all of history…
David loved the Lord so much, he wanted to build a house for God…he had one of his own and wanted to honor God with His own…not that you can contain God in a house built by man…
But God basically said, “ I am okay with no temple built by you…I have another plan…I have a plan for your family that extends forever….”
There is so much more to this chapter…but, it just hit me about contentment again…And God’s plans…David was to be content with what God planned for him…just as we are are…
There are times in distress or even great happiness or hardship, I want my own plans…but, I have to be content with what God’s plans are for me…He is in control, he knows all, sees all, is everywhere, etc…the God of comfort, care, provision, compassion, etc…and He knows my frame-he made it…
God told Jeremiah…
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.
Jer.29.11-13
Paul tells the Corinthians…the Philippians…Timothy…the Galations…
For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
2Cor.12.10
Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content.
Phil.4.11
But godliness with contentment is great gain,
But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.
1Tim.6.6,8
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.
Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.
Gal.5.22-26
Or to the Hebrew Christians…
Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we can confidently say,“The Lord is my helper;I will not fear;what can man do to me?”
Heb.13.5-6
Thank YOU…
Contentment…
