My hero walks on water….
A few years ago, I had the awesome opportunity to go to Colombia, South America to distribute operation Christmas child boxes to children in northern Colombia…we went to several villages giving them out…
We also visited a flamingo refuge…it was a playa lake which dries up part of the year and is a lake about 12-18 inches deep the rest of the year. We rode in flat bottom boats to the spot where we could view the flocks of flamingos from afar.
Our “captain “ poled us around or got out and pushed the boat . From a distance, the various “captains” looked like they were walking on the water, as it was so shallow…
The flamingos looked like the were walking on water as well…
Matthew 14, Mark 6 and John 6 all relate the story of Jesus walking on the water hours after feeding the 5 thousand…
His disciples had left the shore heading to another area…
These guys had just witnessed Jesus feeding five thousand with the lunch of a boy, now they were witnessing his walk on the water…fear, dismay, faith, doubt, and worship all rolled into the water-walking incident…
I know there are those same emotions in my life at various times…fear of so many things…dismay at the events…faith to do, to be….doubt at times, when I am not trusting and worship when God has done great things or even done small things…that only He could orchestrate….
I am so glad that God has written about real people who went through real life emotions…they are so relatable…emotions we still go through coming to the real conclusions…”truly you are the Son of God”…
Thank YOU….
Immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds.
And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray.
When evening came, he was there alone, but the boat by this time was a long way from the land, beaten by the waves, for the wind was against them.
And in the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea.
But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, “It is a ghost!” and they cried out in fear.
But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.” And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.”
He said, “Come.”
So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus.
But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.”
Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”
And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.
And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”Matt.14.22-33
