Even the wind and the waves obey him….

Even the wind and the waves obey him….

 Some went down to the sea in ships,doing business on the great waters;

they saw the deeds of the Lord, his wondrous works in the deep. For he commanded and raised the stormy wind, which lifted up the waves of the sea.

They mounted up to heaven; they went down to the depths;their courage melted away in their evil plight; they reeled and staggered like drunken menand were at their wits' end.

Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.

He made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed. Then they were glad that the waters were quiet, and he brought them to their desired haven.

Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man!

Let them extol him in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders.

Ps.107.23-32

Sounds like reading the accounts in Matthew, Mark and Luke…but no, in the Psalms…

Verse of the day…

We ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers, as is right, because your faith is growing abundantly, and the love of every one of you for one another is increasing.

2Thess.1.3

I thought this a good verse for today…in light of the passages-“your faith is growing abundantly “…those disciples out on the stormy Sea of Galilee…their eyes must have been wide, jaws dropped when they saw the sea calmed by a word from Jesus…

Matthew, Mark,Luke all recount the stormy sea that Jesus calmly, calmed…

And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. And they went and woke him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing.” And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. And the men marveled, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?”

Matt.8.23-27

There are times, seasons when the storms seem to rage…times when we need a calming word from Jesus…when we are afraid, wondering when the next shoe will drop…when the light will actually show at the end of a dark tunnel…dark stormy times…and we shout, “save us, Lord, we are perishing!”….when our faith is weak…

And Jesus, the Creator, the Calmer…speaks through the storms of life, comforting, peace giving words…..

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

John.14.27
