Prize in a cereal box...

Prize in the cereal box....

I haven't been down the cereal aisle lately, but I don't think it looks like it did when I was a child..

When I was child, there wasn't as much choice. There may not have been as much sugar available either... Plus, each box advertised a prize inside and that seemed to be more important than the cereal itself...I rarely got to have cold cereal, it just wasn't in the budget as I was growing up...so choosing the right prize was important...

Then, as I had children, they got to choose a box as well, each child making their own choice, but usually it was by taste and not prizes potentially hidden at the bottom of the box..once a month...maybe, depending on the budget as well...

Growing up,  we had a lot of hot cereal and that followed with my children...with butter and honey or brown sugar, melting lushishly into the steaming bowls...rice, cream of wheat, oatmeal....the prize was the warmth and taste...not the hidden plastic trinket found in the box...

Prizes....we have hidden prizes as well, some not so hidden .....we can have a renewed heart from our handing over our sinful one to Christ...
We have the prize of spiritual gifts bestowed by the Holy Spirit ...the prize of finishing well, a crown, white robes of righteousness, an invitation to a wedding feast awaiting us in heaven, a new eternal home, new attitudes or lifestyles as we mature in Christ, abundance of love....so many prizes....none of them plastic or to be thrown away at some future date... But valued, cared for, used...received with joy...

Thank YOU for the "prizes" You give freely, abundantly ...not on a budget...to those who are called by Your name...

Philippians 3:14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Psalm 103:2-5 Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—
who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

1 Peter 5:4 And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.
