Pearls …2…
I have to return to yesterday’s pearls of great price…sorry for the reminiscing…
In 1962, my parents, a friend and I loaded into our car and made our way to the World’s Fair in Seattle, Washington…
We had saved our money, made reservations for a 16 foot travel trailer-parked in a makeshift trailer park with a shower house..traveling each day we attended the fair into fair area…my dad had found various fruit turnovers at the bread outlet for our breakfasts…(still can’t stomach those from that adventure)…we ate lunches at the fair…
(It used to be that there were “world “ fairs every 4 years in places around the world…so interesting in bringing various cultures together in one place.)
Anyway, at the fair there was an area for Asia…where they had a water tank that had oysters at the bottom…there were Asian women divers, who, for a price, dived into the tank, picking up out an oyster, bringing it to another woman who shucked the oyster, bringing forth the beautiful pearl…then the customer chose a jewelry finding for it, wearing it away from the display…it was fun the stand and watch, seeing the variety of sizes, colors of pearls…
Later, when we took our children to the Worlds Fair in Vancouver, I hoped there would be a similar exhibit to show them the pearl diving, but, no….
Now you can choose an oyster from a small water tank on a cruise ship and get your jewelry there….or just look at the display of pearls…not near as exciting as getting a pearl from the source…
The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the city was of gold, as pure as transparent glass.
Rev.21.21
Yesterday, it was said, that pearls are born of irritants or adversity in the body of the mollusks over time…I thought of the gates of some size in heaven being made of pearls…God can speak a pearl into being…He doesn’t need time or materials…He doesn’t need an irritant to make them…and those gate-sized pearls are just a part of heaven…
Then in one article, they are said to symbolize purity…of which
God is…
It is about pursuing righteousness…
Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.
2Cor.7.1
In the book of Proverbs, King Solomon writes about the benefits of purity in Proverbs 22:11, where he says, “He who loves purity of heart and whose speech is gracious will have the king as his friend.” This verse suggests that purity is not only pleasing to God, but also attractive to others. It is a quality that can lead to favor and blessings in our relationships.
Overall, the Bible teaches us that purity is an important aspect of our faith and relationship with God. It is a virtue that is highly valued and rewarded by God. Purity is not just about external appearances, but also about having a pure heart and mind. It is about living a life that is pleasing to God and pursuing righteousness and holiness in all areas. As we strive to live a life of purity, may we experience the blessings and favor that come from walking in obedience to God’s Word.”
