 Christmas songs…4…the magi….

These men came later, not like the shepherds.  They saw a child, not a baby in a manger…as so many scenes depict…they followed a star…they went to the king, Herod..to ask directions…

 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? 

We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” 

When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written: “‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;for out of you will come a rulerwho will shepherd my people Israel.’” 

Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the child. 

As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.” 

After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 

On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. 

Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. 

And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.

Matt.2.1-12

 But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.

“Gospel in the stars….”

“t his edition of Joseph Seiss’ 1882 classic, “The Gospel in the Stars or Primeval Astronomy,” has been annotated with extra information such as illustrations and comments. Joseph Seiss was a Lutheran theologian, minister, and writer who was fundamentally sound and orthodox in his doctrine. He did venture into what some have deemed “speculative theology,” although modern day preachers such as the late D. James Kennedy, PhD. of Coral Ridge Ministries, have agreed with Seiss’ findings. Quoting Kennedy, “The Bible tells us that God has named all of the stars, the host of heaven—that He has numbered them, ordered them and set them in the firmament to be signs. The original meaning was corrupted into something which was demonic, something which was satanic, something which was counterfeit, something which has given birth to what is known as modern astrology, which the Bible repeatedly condemns and warns Christians against. The corruption began in Babylon with the Tower of Babel.”This is a book on BIBLICAL Astronomy. In this book Seiss discusses the “real meaning” of the Zodiac and how the Zodiac relates to the Christian Gospel. His proposition is that the plan of redemption is written in the stars; that the whole of creation at one time knew this plan, but after the Tower of Babel, when men went their own way, it was corrupted and paganized over the years. As man descended further from the Truth and into heathenism the story of redemption written in the stars was perverted to the incorrect Zodiac as we know it today, and to which Christians should leave alone. Joseph Seiss seeks to get to the original, genuine, and correct significance of the signs of the Zodiac.”   An interesting read…
