The shepherds….
The Israelites were awaiting a king…instead they got a baby born in a stable…and the first people to get the news of the birth were shepherds who were out in the fields with their sheep…
After they visited the stable, saw the baby, they took to the streets telling others what they had seen and heard…I wonder how many believed their account, pondered it, realizing that the Messiah had come…
We still ask the same questions centuries later…we hear the account of His birth, life and resurrection…we have his written Word, we have his promises, we have historical facts…we have God who desires that none should perish…we have a Shepherd who cares…
“Just as shepherds guarded their sheep and cared for them day and night, so does God care for us. Even when life gets difficult, God protects us, guides us, and never leaves us. We can trust that God is the perfect Shepherd.” Gotquestions.org
“‘And I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.
Jer.3.15
And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!” When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child.
And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them.
Luke.2.8-18
“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber.
But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. I am the good shepherd.
The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
John.10.1-2, 11
Psalm 23…
Are we prepared to believe the shepherds’ report? And seek the salvation offered by the Good Shepherd?
Then he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” And they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their wounds; and he was baptized at once, he and all his family. Then he brought them up into his house and set food before them. And he rejoiced along with his entire household that he had believed in God.
