Well done…
My father retired at 52 after a fruitful career and went on for another 35+ years doing a multitude of things and following varying interests, still fruitful in many lives…
I teased my husband about never retiring, because he loved doing geology so much…he didn’t retire here, but entered heaven instead…
And now I look at my oldest son, at fifty, officially retiring from his chosen profession with the likelihood of many fruitful up years ahead…
I thought of these verses…
His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’
Matt.25.21
That fiftieth year shall be a jubilee for you; in it you shall neither sow nor reap what grows of itself nor gather the grapes from the undressed vines. For it is a jubilee. It shall be holy to you. You may eat the produce of the field.
Lev.25.11-12
Both applicable…well done and a jubilee, both celebrations ….
We are all given talents to steward…(and I can honestly say, that all of my children have been given talents of various things and people…they have all given to the best of their ability and stewarded what they have been given well…whether parenting, creativity, finances, administration, friends, helping others, resources …and I thank God for the work He is doing in their lives. Each of them were gifts to our family).
We can be faithful in stewardship or not…but, a pat on the back or reward from the Master is worth being faithful in all we do…growing, increasing…
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
Phil.1.6
Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,
Col.3.23
Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.
2Thess.2.16-17
Thank YOU…that you continue to work in our lives…help us be good stewards of the talents you have bestowed…
Awesome God…
