Falling at the feet of Jesus…
I find it interesting that in the fifth book of Mark, three distinct people fell at the feet of Jesus,
1. The man with a demon…
2. A ruler of the synagogue…
3. An ill woman..
All with different requests, but all desiring healing…different parts of the local area…different levels of the society…
Background first, Jesus had just come through a storm at sea, calmed it with a word before his frightened disciples, leaving them wondering who this is who has power over the wind and sea…
First the man with demons..
And when Jesus had stepped out of the boat, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit. He lived among the tombs. And no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain, for he had often been bound with shackles and chains, but he wrenched the chains apart, and he broke the shackles in pieces. No one had the strength to subdue him. Night and day among the tombs and on the mountains he was always crying out and cutting himself with stones. And when he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and fell down before him.
Mark 5:2-6
Jesus healed man amongst the tombs with witnesses…
Jesus told him to go home and tell his friends what Jesus had done for him…
Jesus calls out the demon who has tormented this man, sends the demon into a herd of two thousand pigs, who then run into the ocean…taking the livelihood of the local villagers who ask him to leave, being more interested in economics than the healing…
The man goes home telling all of his healing, with people marveled at this miracle…
Second, a ruler of the synagogue….
Then came one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name, and seeing him, he fell at his feet and implored him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well and live.”
They came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and Jesus saw a commotion, people weeping and wailing loudly.
Taking her by the hand he said to her, “Talitha cumi,” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.”
And immediately the girl got up and began walking (for she was twelve years of age), and they were immediately overcome with amazement.
Mark 5:22-23,38,41-42
Jesus healed the daughter with the family…having put the crowd outside…
Third, the woman who had a lengthy illness…
She had heard the reports about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his garment.
But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling and fell down before him and told him the whole truth. And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.”
Mark 5:27,33-34
Jesus healed to woman on the way to the ruler’s home…amongst a great crowd of witnesses…
He treats all with compassion and care, seeing to their individual needs… all believed in his healing power…whether by a word, or his presence…he didn’t show partiality between them…he spoke to each, healing, peace, faith…just as he had the storm
And from those who seemed to be influential (what they were makes no difference to me; God shows no partiality)—those, I say, who seemed influential added nothing to me.
Galatians 2:6
My brothers, show no partiality as you hold the faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory.
James 2:1
They each came away, healed and amazed…
When I see God’s hand in my life, I need to remember these moments in the lives of others…drawn to the healer, the comforter, the compassionate, the Savior…and declare what He has done for me…
Thank YOU….
