On that day…

 On that day….

Looking back over life, there are many days that I can pinpoint as huge… they were events I could say, “on that day” a particular thing happened, important, catastrophic, life changing, memorable…

Or look forward on a calendar, writing down, “Lord willing” this or that will take place “on that day “…marriages, births, deaths, world changing events, life changing events…small things, big things…

Finishing Zechariah,  the phase kept coming up, “on that day” over and over…so I had to “rabbit trail” it…it is used the most in that book, and the most  times in the prophets, both major and minor…

But looking at the whole Bible…these are a few examples….

On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, “To your offspring I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates,

Genesis 15:18

On that day the Lord  exalted Joshua in the sight of all Israel, and they stood in awe of him just as they had stood in awe of Moses, all the days of his life.

Joshua 4:14

And Moses swore on that day, saying, ‘Surely the land on which your foot has trodden shall be an inheritance for you and your children forever, because you have wholly followed the Lord my God.’

So now give me this hill country of which the Lord spoke on that day, for you heard on that day how the Anakim were there, with great fortified cities. It may be that the Lord will be with me, and I shall drive them out just as the Lord said.”

Joshua 14:9,12

So on that day God subdued Jabin the king of Canaan before the people of Israel.

Then sang Deborah and Barak the son of Abinoam on that day: “That the leaders took the lead in Israel, that the people offered themselves willingly, bless the Lord!

Judges 4:23,5:1-2

Then on that day David first appointed that thanksgiving be sung to the Lord by Asaph and his brothers.

1 Chronicles 16:7

On that day they read from the Book of Moses in the hearing of the people. And in it was found written that no Ammonite or Moabite should ever enter the assembly of God,

Nehemiah 13:1

On that day King Ahasuerus gave to Queen Esther the house of Haman, the enemy of the Jews. And Mordecai came before the king, for Esther had told what he was to her.

A copy of what was written was to be issued as a decree in every province, being publicly displayed to all peoples, and the Jews were to be ready on that day to take vengeance on their enemies.

Esther 8:1,13

On that day the Lord will punish the host of heaven, in heaven, and the kings of the earth, on the earth.

Isaiah 24:21

“On that day I will cause a horn to spring up for the house of Israel, and I will open your lips among them. Then they will know that I am the Lord.”

Ezekiel 29:21

And the Lord will be king over all the earth. On that day the Lord will be one and his name one.

Zechariah 14:9

31 On that day, let the one who is on the housetop, with his goods in the house, not come down to take them away, and likewise let the one who is in the field not turn back.

Luke 17:31

There are at least 18 times that the phase “on that day” is used in Zechariah…both good and bad things…

It was an interesting “rabbit trail”…God has a timeline, we are part of it…the whole world is a part of it…He has a plan…and that is comforting when we have doubts…He is in control through all of the days…

Thank YOU….

A week of contrasts….

 A week of contrasts…

Earlier this week, a tour of the old penitentiary was the activity for a day…rose gardens bloomed among the gray stone walls of captivity…the metal bars locking the small  dark cells…paint peeling away from the tons of concrete….hand hewn stones…a burned out chapel…”exercise areas”, history boards of numerous events, testimonies and timelines of various  captives held….creaking doors, isolation holes, fences, gardens, dairy barns, laundry and shower facilities, all open for a visitor’s perusal…

A sign saying , “if your were a resident here, tell us your story”…some went on the better lives while others did not…most were not

“lives well lived”…nor were the words “well done, good and faithful servant” used for most of these prisoners…

Leaving this dreary place was welcome…is was interesting, a story of lives, bit a place of darkness….

On the other hand, a contrast…attending a funeral a of man, freed from the prison of atheism and no God…who became, until his passing, a man sold out to his Lord…from darkness to light…from a captive to freedom in Christ, a shepherd to many…

Testimonies of this man, were those of love for others, a passion to win souls, history of doing good…loving son, husband, father, grandfather and friend…”living his life with the light of God always shining”…

His epitaph could read, “Well done, good and faithful servant”…

Finishing this memorial was a song lead by the servant himself through the help of video from past church services…”Great is Thy Faithfulness”…. A fitting end and beginning of his own story…and the lives he touched…

Thank YOU…

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.

He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.

They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.

Isaiah 61:1-3

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

Luke 4:18-19

Song…. "Give Me Jesus"

In the morning, when I rise

In the morning, when I rise

In the morning, when I rise

Give me Jesus.

Give me Jesus,

Give me Jesus.

You can have all this world,

Just give me Jesus.

When I am alone,

When I am alone,

When I am alone,

Give me Jesus.

Give me Jesus.

Give me Jesus,

Give me Jesus.

You can have all this world,

Just give me Jesus.

When I come to die,

When I come to die,

When I come to die,

Give me Jesus.

Give me Jesus.

Give me Jesus,

Give me Jesus.

You can have all this world,

Just give me Jesus.

Give me Jesus.

Give me Jesus,

Give me Jesus.

You can have all this world,

You can have all this world,

You can have all this world,

Just give me Jesus.

Armchair traveler…

Armchair traveler….

It is the first day of autumn…can’t believe this year has only three months left…summer was almost skipped…too smoky or too hot to walk outside, missed my “gardens along the way”…

I camped a couple of times, took two  one-week long trips, went to a local conference, not as many as usual…the world has changed…with one small exploding virus, world turmoil…not as many photos, comparatively speaking to past years…

Have found a few sites and I know there are many more…to travel from my armchair….

Several travel companies are adding videos to their sites to explore the world

National Geographic

YouTube

That the world may know …videos of the Holy Land

Wayne Stiles has a site for the Holy Land as well….

Samantha Browns places to love

Great Australian Railroads

Nature… explore.org

Places around our valleys and homes, museums, unique spots…

Back alleys to see history of buildings…

The list goes on…

So instead I travelled through the Old Testament…from creation, a word spoke everything into being-quite the trip…to Abraham, Moses’,  Noah’s travels…through deserts, promised lands, wars, blessings, rise and fall of nation after nation, judgments, promises, drama, comforting, praises, curses….applications to current daily life from words written thousands of years ago…people, big and small, famous and behind the scenes…images of far away places, exotic and everyday life…ancient news/life that feels like today…

So much….most worthy of reading, delving into, traveling with, meditating upon…asking what does this have to do with now or what is God teaching me through these “travels”…

Are there favorite vistas along these travels? Each stopping spot has a view that is special…a time to sit and meditate…God’s

Word is alive…and He speaks to each heart the lessons we need to hear…from the still small voice to the thunder and lightnings…reminds me of the vistas along the coast highways…pullouts that never cease to be amazing…smooth beaches to crashing waves, mesmerizing…contemplating…

Thank YOU for the trips of life…in Your Word…

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

2 Timothy 3:16-17

Pathways…maps…minor prophets…

 Pathways….maps…minor prophets…

Several years ago, one of my daughters volunteered to teach a boys class at their coop. One exercise was reading maps…low and behold a majority didn’t know how…

They didn’t have to…a phone told you where to go…so needless to say…a lesson on map reading was pursued…just making their way around the building they were using was a big lesson in map reading and then they expanded elsewhere…

My children were brought up around maps of all kinds, topo, geology, atlases, global, road, timelines, architectural plans…paper ones that you spread out and studied…

I am reading through the “minor” prophets after the major ones…a timeline/map for me is needed…some  fit back into the books of Kings and Chronicles, pre and post captivity …they don’t neatly fit after the major prophets…they are tucked here and there, speaking to different people…different messages, different personalities…different teaching methods…

They speak of judgment, redemption, love, wrath, obedience, disobedience, yearning, wars, comfort, pictures of things to come, etc….

So much “meat” in each one…

Like…

Jonah repeats…sent..ran away, three days in the whale…..sent, goes, three days walking …then God’s sovereignty over all…

Hosea marries a prostitute, pictures Israel’s prostitution, Gods love through it all…

And so much more…

Thank YOU…

Plane to plane….

 From Plane to plane ….

I have had the honor, privilege to meet with two Christian organizations this week, a  Jesus Film representative and attend a Mission Aviation Fellowship three day meeting….I love to hear their stories of how God is working worldwide, how Christians are working together bringing the

Word of God to all people, “to the end of the earth”…

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Acts 1:8

But, my imagination ran a little further…a plane was retired and a new plane was dedicated at the MAF meeting, reports shared, stories told, prayers prayed, songs sung, a movie aired, tears shed, planes flown, meals spread, light shown and then it was over…but not really….

Hearts were singing, humbled as another year of learning, growth has finished and and a new one begun…

My mind kept going back to those two planes …the retiring one and new one…if they could talk, what would they say…if they had souls, breath, hearts…what would they share…thinking of 2 Timothy where Paul encourages Timothy in his ministry as a father to a son, mentor to a mentee…older to the younger…

don’t be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord..

Join me in suffering

Called

For God’s purpose and grace

Sound teaching

Be strong in the Grace that is in Christ Jesus

Endure

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved

Useful, prepared for any good work

Kind

Avoid bad teaching

Expect persecution

Equipped for every good work….

Words of life like sacrificial, ministry, leadership, make a difference,

Tireless, mercy, hope…all of these and more describe the people who work with these planes…but if these planes had breath…that would describe them as well…

They as well as the people who fly them, need care, maintenance, fuel, guidance, encouragement, support, love, prayer…

If the planes could talk, would they rejoice with each successful flight, cheer  at the solo flights of new pilots, mourn or feel pain when crashed, stand in jubilation at the transporting of new Bibles or life saving events,

encourage one another in the hangers…

In the pictures shared, the new movie…the smiles on the people’s faces, the pilots hugs and encouragements to the villages….the plane  stood in the background seemingly to take on that glow of satisfaction as well…a job well done…good and faithful servants…another tool in the tool chest  of God…

Thank YOU…

“Mine”

 “Mine”….

It seems like one of the first words a baby learns is “mine” especially if they have siblings or ones close to their age…they end up squabbling over something…repeating the word “mine” over and over again…

We get that concept early on…mine, mine, mine…or “my”…that possessiveness of things, ideas, actions… Life…

I knew yesterday after I posted a picture of “my” peaches which are getting eaten up by birds…that the “my” had to be in parentheses…

I realized I had paid for them, planted the trees, watered them, sprayed, fertilized, babied them….but they are still God’s trees…he created them, gave them color, seasons, caused them to bloom, provided the bees, the water, the sunshine, even me-the watcher, …..everything about them is God’s doing….I get to be a tool, a steward…and reap when available….

That goes for everything….just everything….that has breath, life…He has our days numbered, He has the power to give and take away…He breathed life into man at the beginning…He specially formed us…

So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.

Psalm 90:12

then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being…

So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man.

Genesis 2:7,21-22

He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names.

Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure.

The Lord  lifts up the humble; he casts the wicked to the ground. Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving; make melody to our God on the lyre!

He covers the heavens with clouds; he prepares rain for the earth; he makes grass grow on the hills.

He gives to the beasts their food, and to the young ravens that cry.

Psalm 147:4-9

Nothing is really mine….not my life, not my “toys”, not my finances…We are given the power to steward…to watch, to care for…it is all God’s…He made it …He rules…

Then when I am reminded that He is preparing a place for us when we leave this place…it becomes more awesome…

In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.

John 14:2-3

Thank YOU for the reminder in a flock of finches…that You own it all…thank YOU for life…the gifts You give…

Walk the talk….

 Walk the talk….

Reading the first part of Daniel, one cannot help but be caught by the descriptions of Daniel…what others thought of him, his reputation, his stand in a foreign land who worshiped foreign gods…

“youths without blemish, of good appearance and skillful in all wisdom, endowed with knowledge, understanding learning, and competent to stand in the king's palace, and to teach them the literature and language of the Chaldeans.

But Daniel resolved that he would not defile himself with the king's food, or with the wine that he drank. Therefore he asked the chief of the eunuchs to allow him not to defile himself. And God gave Daniel favor and compassion in the sight of the chief of the eunuchs, As for these four youths, God gave them learning and skill in all literature and wisdom, and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.

And in every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters that were in all his kingdom.

Then Daniel replied with prudence and discretion to Arioch, the captain of the king's guard, who had gone out to kill the wise men of Babylon. Daniel answered and said: “Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, to whom belong wisdom and might. He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding; he reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him.

To you, O God of my fathers, I give thanks and praise, for you have given me wisdom and might, and have now made known to me what we asked of you, for you have made known to us the king's matter.”

Then the king gave Daniel high honors and many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon and chief prefect over all the wise men of Babylon.

At last Daniel came in before me—he who was named Belteshazzar after the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods —and I told him the dream, saying, “O Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians, because I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in you and that no mystery is too difficult for you, tell me the visions of my dream that I saw and their interpretation.

This dream I, King Nebuchadnezzar, saw. And you, O Belteshazzar, tell me the interpretation, because all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known to me the interpretation, but you are able, for the spirit of the holy gods is in you.”

Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to you: break off your sins by practicing righteousness, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the oppressed, that there may perhaps be a lengthening of your prosperity.”

There is a man in your kingdom in whom is the spirit of the holy gods. In the days of your father, light and understanding and wisdom like the wisdom of the gods were found in him, and King Nebuchadnezzar, your father—your father the king— made him chief of the magicians, enchanters, Chaldeans, and astrologers, because an excellent spirit, knowledge, and understanding to interpret dreams, explain riddles, and solve problems were found in this Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar.

Now let Daniel be called, and he will show the interpretation.”

I have heard of you that the spirit of the gods is in you, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom are found in you.

Then this Daniel became distinguished above all the other high officials and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him.

And the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom.

Then the high officials and the satraps sought to find a ground for complaint against Daniel with regard to the kingdom, but they could find no ground for complaint or any fault, because he was faithful, and no error or fault was found in him.

When Daniel knew that the document had been signed, he went to his house where he had windows in his upper chamber open toward Jerusalem. He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had done previously.

Then the king commanded, and Daniel was brought and cast into the den of lions. The king declared to Daniel, “May your God, whom you serve continually, deliver you!”

As he came near to the den where Daniel was, he cried out in a tone of anguish. The king declared to Daniel, “O Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to deliver you from the lions?”

My God sent his angel and shut the lions' mouths, and they have not harmed me, because I was found blameless before him; and also before you, O king, I have done no harm.”

I make a decree, that in all my royal dominion people are to tremble and fear before the God of Daniel, for he is the living God, enduring forever; his kingdom shall never be destroyed, and his dominion shall be to the end. He delivers and rescues; he works signs and wonders in heaven and on earth, he who has saved Daniel from the power of the lions.”

So this Daniel prospered during the reign of Darius and the reign of Cyrus the Persian.”

Daniel 1:4,8-9,17,20,2:14,20-23,48,4:8-9,18,27,5:11-12,14,6:3-4,10,16,20,22,26-28

The take away is this…do I live a lie…do I walk the talk….?

It just so happened that we were studying the words, “pretext”,  “contrive”, “pretense” in Sunday School this past week in grieving the Holy Spirit…

“Pretext….

: a purpose or motive alleged or an appearance assumed in order to cloak the real intention or state of affairs

Contrive…

contrive ways of handling the situation

: to make schemes

Pretense…

: a claim made or implied

especially : one not supported by fact

: mere ostentation :

confuse dignity with pomposity and pretense

: an inadequate or insincere attempt to attain a certain condition or quality

: professed rather than real intention or purpose : PRETEXT

was there under false pretenses

: MAKE-BELIEVE, FICTION”

(All definitions are from the Merriam-Webster online dictionary…)

…they fit this context of Daniel…he did not live a lie…he walked his talk and was noticed….his epitaph would be a positive reflection of his character…his life is written in the Word for all to see…

My takeaway…what is my reputation before others?…what would someone write on my gravestone?…are my words acceptable long after my demise?…

But, most importantly…would/do my words/life direct others to the Living God?…

Thank YOU for a lesson in “reputation “….

16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Matthew 5:16

….and having a reputation for good works…..

1 Timothy 5:9b

2 “‘I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear with those who are evil, but have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and found them to be false.

13 “‘I know where you dwell, where Satan's throne is. Yet you hold fast my name, and you did not deny my faith even in the days of Antipas my faithful witness, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells.

19 “‘I know your works, your love and faith and service and patient endurance, and that your latter works exceed the first.

3 “And to the angel of the church in Sardis write: ‘The words of him who has the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. “‘I know your works. You have the reputation of being alive, but you are dead.

2 Wake up, and strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your works complete in the sight of my God.

8 “‘I know your works. Behold, I have set before you an open door, which no one is able to shut. I know that you have but little power, and yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.

15 “‘I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot!

Revelation 2:2,13,19,3:1-2,8,15

Only fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart. For consider what great things he has done for you.

1 Samuel 12:24

…..The Lord has sought out a man after his own heart….

1 Samuel 13:14b

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”

1 Samuel 16:7

and said, “O Lord, God of Israel, there is no God like you, in heaven above or on earth beneath, keeping covenant and showing steadfast love to your servants who walk before you with all their heart;

1 Kings 8:23

as long as my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils, my lips will not speak falsehood, and my tongue will not utter deceit.

Far be it from me to say that you are right; till I die I will not put away my integrity from me.

I hold fast my righteousness and will not let it go; my heart does not reproach me for any of my days.

Job 27:3-6

O Lord, who shall sojourn in your tent?

Who shall dwell on your holy hill?

He who walks blamelessly and does what is right and speaks truth in his heart; who does not slander with his tongue and does no evil to his neighbor, nor takes up a reproach against his friend; in whose eyes a vile person is despised, but who honors those who fear the Lord; who swears to his own hurt and does not change; who does not put out his money at interest and does not take a bribe against the innocent.

He who does these things shall never be moved.

Psalm 15:1-5

You have tried my heart, you have visited me by night, you have tested me, and you will find nothing; I have purposed that my mouth will not transgress.

Psalm 17:3

Prove me, O Lord, and try me; test my heart and my mind.

Psalm 26:2

Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions.

Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin!

For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me.

Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment.

Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.

Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart.

Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones that you have broken rejoice.

Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities.

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.

Psalm 51:1-10

Fiery furnaces….

Fiery furnaces….

Reading the daily news, listening to those around me, living each day, watching the world…it doesn’t take long to hear about, see, experience…fiery furnaces….we have them in our families, our neighbors, our churches, our governments, our towns, our states, our nation and the world…persecutions, wars, malicious backstabbing, etc….person against person, beliefs against beliefs, tearing down one another, nation against nation, ideology against ideology….

Reading through the Scriptures, there is really nothing new in all of the unrest we see now over the history of the world…maybe a new name, a new twist…it has been a war of evil against good…it just plays out differently with each generation….

The most comforting thing is that, with each succeeding generation, we, who have clung to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, have a hope to cling to…God is really in control…we have a Savior, Jesus, who goes with us into those fiery furnaces we face…we have a Holy Spirit who counsels and leads us into all truth….we have victory in times of defeat…

Thank YOU….

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.

Isaiah 43:2

Therefore at that time certain Chaldeans came forward and maliciously accused the Jews. They declared to King Nebuchadnezzar, “O king, live forever! You, O king, have made a decree, that every man who hears the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music, shall fall down and worship the golden image. And whoever does not fall down and worship shall be cast into a burning fiery furnace.

There are certain Jews whom you have appointed over the affairs of the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These men, O king, pay no attention to you; they do not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.” Then Nebuchadnezzar in furious rage commanded that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego be brought. So they brought these men before the king. Nebuchadnezzar answered and said to them, “Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the golden image that I have set up? Now if you are ready when you hear the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music, to fall down and worship the image that I have made, well and good. But if you do not worship, you shall immediately be cast into a burning fiery furnace. And who is the god who will deliver you out of my hands?”

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.”

Then Nebuchadnezzar was filled with fury, and the expression of his face was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. He ordered the furnace heated seven times more than it was usually heated. And he ordered some of the mighty men of his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace.

Then these men were bound in their cloaks, their tunics, their hats, and their other garments, and they were thrown into the burning fiery furnace.

Because the king's order was urgent and the furnace overheated, the flame of the fire killed those men who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell bound into the burning fiery furnace.

Then King Nebuchadnezzar was astonished and rose up in haste. He declared to his counselors, “Did we not cast three men bound into the fire?” They answered and said to the king, “True, O king.” He answered and said, “But I see four men unbound, walking in the midst of the fire, and they are not hurt; and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods.”

Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the door of the burning fiery furnace; he declared, “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, servants of the Most High God, come out, and come here!”

Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego came out from the fire. And the satraps, the prefects, the governors, and the king's counselors gathered together and saw that the fire had not had any power over the bodies of those men. The hair of their heads was not singed, their cloaks were not harmed, and no smell of fire had come upon them. Nebuchadnezzar answered and said, “Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who has sent his angel and delivered his servants, who trusted in him, and set aside the king's command, and yielded up their bodies rather than serve and worship any god except their own God. Therefore I make a decree: Any people, nation, or language that speaks anything against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego shall be torn limb from limb, and their houses laid in ruins, for there is no other god who is able to rescue in this way.” Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the province of Babylon.

Daniel 3:8-30

Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.

27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

John 14:23,27

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

James 1:2-4

In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

Object lessons, imagery, visions….

 Object lessons, imagery, visions….

Ezekiel is filled with object lessons-mud bricks, exile’s baggage, etc..

Allegories-birds, bones, etc…

Visions -measuring the temple, glory, etc…

“The primary purpose of Ezekiel’s ministry was to restore God’s glory before Israel, who had rejected him before the watching nations.” ESV Archaeology Study Bible….

This all struck me yesterday as two people so needing God’s touch, answered prayer shared how He came into their lives in a personal way…

One, whose parents are elderly, needing much care, dreamed that

God said, “I got this” over  and over …helping her to again realize that she can indeed trust Him with the process…just this word of encouragement has lightened her load….

Another, spending the night in the hospital, enduring tortuous pain, was crying out to God for help, when in walked a nurse, carrying a Bible, sat down and proceeded to read psalm 91, sing songs, pray with my friend…with the other four staff working on the procedures that needed doing…

Personally, I have had those super special times when I knew God was speaking directly to me through a dream in the night or a word spoken…

I think of Mary, Jesus’ mother; Joseph, Jesus’ father; Joseph In the Old Testament; Daniel in the lions den; Gideon with his fleeces; Moses in the wilderness; Noah and the ark…to name a few…God sent his angels, gave plans, a burning bush…to give each  a  personal message…

God still works…speaking His life into ours…through His word, others, provisions, visions, etc…..and we all don’t get it the same, He works in our individual lives…so we mustn’t compare…He still wants to restore His glory…

Even in the New Testament, from the Old…

But this is what was uttered through the prophet Joel: “‘And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams; even on my male servants and female servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit, and they shall prophesy.

And I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below, blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke; the sun shall be turned to darkness and the moon to blood, before the day of the Lord comes, the great and magnificent day.

And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.’ “Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know—

Acts 2:16-22

Thank YOU that You still use various means to speak to us…to comfort… to bless…

Dry bones….

 Dry bones…

Finally coming to a very unique scene and description in Ezekiel….dry bones….

The hand of the Lord was upon me, and he brought me out in the Spirit of the Lord and set me down in the middle of the valley; it was full of bones.

And he led me around among them, and behold, there were very many on the surface of the valley, and behold, they were very dry.

And he said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” And I answered, “O Lord God, you know.”

Then he said to me, “Prophesy over these bones, and say to them, O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord.

Thus says the Lord God to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter you, and you shall live.

And I will lay sinews upon you, and will cause flesh to come upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live, and you shall know that I am the Lord.”

So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I prophesied, there was a sound, and behold, a rattling, and the bones came together, bone to its bone.

And I looked, and behold, there were sinews on them, and flesh had come upon them, and skin had covered them.

But there was no breath in them. Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, Thus says the Lord God: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live.”

So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived and stood on their feet, an exceedingly great army.

Then he said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel.

Behold, they say, ‘Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost; we are indeed cut off.’

Therefore prophesy, and say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will open your graves and raise you from your graves, O my people.

And I will bring you into the land of Israel.

And you shall know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves, and raise you from your graves, O my people.

And I will put my Spirit within you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land. Then you shall know that I am the Lord; I have spoken, and I will do it, declares the Lord .”

Ezekiel 37:1-14

After visiting the Holocaust museums In Jerusalem and

Washington, D.C., this picture was really vivid…photos of piles of Jewish people on wagons, the ground after starvation or gassing, inhumane treatment of millions of God’s chosen leaves a mark on your mind…

Or just dry deserts we all face in our lives…when we feel parched, even perishing from world events, local events and our own live events…our bones dry, our lives dry from a myriad of things…and we are so down there is no further to go…when we need that  breath breathed into our souls to give life again. We haven’t lost the Spirit, but need a refresher or reminder that He has never left us…a new song, a word of encouragement….knowing that God is still in control…

YOU are the giver of life….thank YOU….
