…on what do you rest this trust of yours?……Isaiah 36

…..On what do you rest this trust of yours? ….Isaiah 36

The king of Assyria sent his chief cupbearer to Jerusalem to give a message to King Hezekiah…taunting him with boasting of the Assyrian conquests…

This passage in Isaiah so brought to mind the taunting, the temptations of Satan toward Jesus…

Or Jesus in the garden praying the night he was betrayed…

He knew all of what was to happen before He came, but yet He came for our sakes…walking an earthly path for us to follow, to trust, to show the way…he was with all of these men, women through the ages, through time…teaching trust…

The Philistines did the same with David…boasting In their arrogance and stature…

Satan does the same to us, now…in this age…taunting doubt, unrest, deception, lies…

We all have to decide…where do we rest our trust…

Queen Esther…

Joshua…

Abraham…

Noah…

Moses…

Daniel and his friends…

Elijah…

Paul….

The disciples…

Etc…..

Down through the ages, men and women have been asked that same question…..

In scripture, we are told it is vain to trust in “ chariots”…giants… fortified walls, ourselves, riches, multitudes of horses…etc…as all this passes away…

Where do we lay our trust?   In a world that will pass away…in a world that really isn’t getting any better…

Or in Jesus…

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.

Colossians 1:15-20

Thank YOU that You alone are worthy of our trust….

Offer right sacrifices, and put your trust in the Lord.

In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.

Psalm 4:5,8

Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.

Psalm 20:7

I hate those who pay regard to worthless idols, but I trust in the Lord. But I trust in you, O Lord; I say, “You are my God.” My times are in your hand; rescue me from the hand of my enemies and from my persecutors!

Psalm 31:6,14-15

Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and rely on horses, who trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong,

but do not look to the Holy One of Israel or consult the Lord!

And yet he is wise and brings disaster; he does not call back his words, but will arise against the house of the evildoers and against the helpers of those who work iniquity.

Isaiah 31:1-2

The saying is trustworthy, for: If we have died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us; if we are faithless, he remains faithful— for he cannot deny himself.

2 Timothy 2:11-13

Then he said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” And Peter answered, “The Christ of God.”

Luke 9:20
