Unfiltered....
One doesn’t have to go too far to hear language that makes you cringe...or maybe we have gotten used to it as words that discourage, tear down, harm, have been slowly becoming everyday language...
Gone, it seems, are the days when we didn’t hear swear words or vulgarity in conversation...or apology for saying something “off color”...
My dad rarely swore, nor my grandfather or father in law or husband...we didn’t teach our children to swear or use words that weren’t appropriate.
Now depending on which programs you watch, movies, books, the language is anything but, uplifting...even the politicians and leaders of our country feel the need to be unfiltered in their words...
I was reminded of this as I read the simple verses in Ephesians...
Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.
speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit.
Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 5:4,19-20
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.
Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
Ephesians 4:29-32
The words of their mouths are wicked and deceitful; they fail to act wisely or do good.
Psalm 36:3
May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.
Psalm 19:14
His talk is smooth as butter, yet war is in his heart; his words are more soothing than oil, yet they are drawn swords.
Psalm 55:21
They sharpen their tongues like swords and aim cruel words like deadly arrows.
Psalm 64:3
How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.
Psalm 119:103,130
Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.
Proverbs 16:24
Going through the book of Proverbs gives light to a variety of words which tear down or build up...persuasive, reckless, kind, gracious...to name a few...
37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”
Matthew 12:37
they are conceited and understand nothing. They have an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions
1 Timothy 6:4
Thank YOU...help my words build up, be gracious to all who hear....not cringe worthy to tear down...
