I awoke with this song on my mind ....

When my husband was dying of brain cancer, I asked God to give me “songs in the night”...

“I remembered my songs in the night. My heart meditated....”
Psalm 77:6a

In my journal from that time, He was so faithful to encourage, comfort witH those songs and He still does...giving hope to those who seek it...thank YOU...


For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope. May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

A million dreams...

A million dreams...

Driving toward an appointment yesterday, I was following a special events truck filled with tables and chairs...it pulled into a home with a beautifully manicured yard awaiting this special event to take place...

My mind wandered into a wedding set-up, the bride and groom busily working on last minute details, the parents scurrying here and there, the attendants making sure their clothing had the right fit, caterers creating their specialties, the florist wrapping the bouquets in fine ribbons, the photographer making sure the batteries were fully charged...a million details it seemed...

I thought of my own wedding...my children’s weddings...the many weddings I coordinated or created flowers for...a million details it seemed...sleepless nights of designing, refining ...dreaming...

We dream dreams, millions of them, I imagine,  over a lifetime...what we will do when we are are grown, a family, the years ahead, the years behind, a marriage or not, vocations, how we will impact the world close at hand or far away...

Now my marriage has come and gone, my children are celebrating their years of marriage, some of my grandchildren are beginning to start their college years while others are just starting school ...all have those dreams as well...

God has a plan for each just as He did and does for me...I watch in wonder as each unfolds, delighted in their growth, their design, their dreams unfold...God working in their lives... my life...thank YOU...

Doing what is good...

Doing what is good...

In the short chapter 3 of Titus, “do what is good” is repeated 3 times...

“Be ready to do what is good”
Titus 3:1b
“This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.”
“Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good, in order to provide for urgent needs and not live unproductive lives.”
Titus 3:8,14

We are to be ready...
Doing Good things is excellent and profitable...
It provides urgent needs...
It is productive living...

I once heard that one way to combat depression is to look for ways to help others...doing good things...makes us feel useful and productive, seeing others taken care of sends good messages to our heart and soul...

I picture a child whom I saw in South America, when I pack an Operation Christmas Child box...the smile, the joy...it brings joy to me...profitable...productive...


But, most of all, by doing good in the name of Jesus, brings glory to God...thank YOU that you have provided us ways to do good...

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
Philippians 4:8-9

School daze....

School daze.....

Dew on the grass, 
blinking yellow lights, 
crossing guards....
traffic... 
school buses...
Hot days...
Sales on school supplies...clothes, backpacks...
Crowded stores with families...

School has started in my area. I knew it was coming by the many clues...
But as I walked one of my early morning routes, i wasn’t ready for the traffic nor the busses...just the day before it was a quiet walkway...not bustling with parents driving children to school and buses with their flashing yellow and red lights...hummm...summer has gone sooo quickly...

Today the predicted temperature is 99 degrees, so summer hasn’t faded into the crisp autumn yet, leaves aren’t falling...crops are still to be harvested in nearby fields and orchards...but the seasons are changing slowly melding one into another...

Life goes on as it has since the beginning of time...subtle sometimes and abruptly at other times...life to life...life to death...spring, summer, fall and winter... preschool to preteen to teen to adult...middle age to aged...new to old...and around again...a vapor in time...

Thank YOU for changes but being unchanged...always there through it all...You never fail, never leave, always love, always available...

The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever. ”
Isaiah 40:8

The life of mortals is like grass, they flourish like a flower of the field; the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more. But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children —

Finally....the life of a nectarine tree...

Finally....life in a nectarine...

Temporary housing with water...
Moved through the wind...
Planted ...
watered....
Leaf loss...
Winter winds...
Snow...
freezing weather...
Spring showers...
Blooming...
Bees...
Watered...
Fruiting...
Leafing ....
Nurtured...
Watched daily through the winter, spring and summer...
Harvest....
Sweet, run-down-the-arm juicy fruit...
Perfection...

And God makes all that happen...

I finally can pick a peach or nectarine to eat...so juicy I have to eat it over the sink...delicious...

Looking at that list of events in the life a nectarine tree...I see parallels in life...

The winds of adversity, growth through the hard times...
God’s nurture and care, seasons  of life...
til the perfect comes...
Times for rest...
Seasons...
harvest ...
others watching  that grow along the way...
times of waiting...
others helping...
blossoming...
fruitfulness...
fulfillment of purpose...
thankfulness...

The cowboy way...

The  cowboy way...

My father was a cowboy as was his father before him...both claimed that vocation til their dying days...

I grew up on ranches in California, we went to rodeos, my parents went square dancing...my father played the harmonica...we listened to western music, watched the first westerns on TV religiously-Gunsmoke, the Lone Ranger, Roy Rogers, Paladin, The Lone Ranger....my dad always carried a red or blue handkerchief, we rode horses, gathered cattle, fixed fences, raised our own beef, chickens, gardens, canned and froze our own food...

Organic was not a common word, but looking back, we ate that way ....we drove by fields where weeds were cultivated out rather than sprayed out, geese were in the cotton fields for bug control, chickens were in large yards or free range...we made ice cream or egg nog with raw eggs not cooked ....that was just ordinary life...

This week is rodeo week in the town where I presently live..all week long...we had the Cowgirl court at church yesterday, we sang accompanied by a banjo, guitars, and fiddle- old time songs which had a western twang and beat...

It brought tears of good memories, longings for those who have passed these last few years...I am now a widow and an orphan, a matriarch of the family...my father’s cowboy boots and shirts distributed to family members along with my husband’s...no more in “our”closest ...

Each family member have some wonderful memories of those “cowboy “ times...laughter, stories, music, pictures...but,  now we are moving on with our lives in new directions with our feet planted solidly on the ground which was plowed and grazed before us...thank YOU for the faith that was passed down...songs of faith, country Sunday schools and churches, teachers and preachers that have passed through our lives...the opportunity to have eternal life through Jesus...good old time gospel...simple and true...
