last supper….
Thirteen years ago, our family had our last Easter with my husband….each meal was precious, not knowing when it was our last with him, as he was dying quickly of cancer…and then one evening it was his last supper…we talked as I fed him…everyday things…said , “I love you and prayed“ before we slept….he left this world two days later…
I thought of this as I read about Saul in 1 Samuel 28…
The woman had a fattened calf at the house, which she butchered at once. She took some flour, kneaded it and baked bread without yeast. Then she set it before Saul and his men, and they ate. That same night they got up and left.
1Sam.28.24-25
I am not sure if this was Saul’s last supper, but he was going into battle…so it may have been…
We celebrate the Lord’s last supper monthly …with communion…the remembrance of Christ and his sacrifice for us…
Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.”
And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.”
Matt.26.26-29
For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.
Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning the body and blood of the Lord.
Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup.
For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself.
1Cor.11:23-29
The disciples may not have known that this was Jesus’ last supper, but it became a memorable one …one which we still celebrate and commemorate…
Thank YOU…
