Dancing in the streets…

 Dancing in the streets….

When I was growing up, the genre of the movies were great epic movies, westerns and musicals….Ben Hur, the Ten Commandments, How the west was Won….musicals of all kinds…dancing in ranch lands, ghetto streets, city streets, castle courtyards, the Alps, Jewish homes, etc…..

On the home front, there were ballet and tap dancing lessons, community concerts, square dancing , discos, after-game dances, after rodeo dances, proms, local Basque club dances, etc…

We don’t want for places to dance…as well as places to watch dancing…music and dancing were  part of life…celebrations, laughter, community and family life…

As I read about David and his celebrations of the Ark of the Covenant being brought to the City of David…his jubilation, his exaltation, his worship, his dancing before the Lord “with all his might”…with “shouts and sounds of trumpets”….how rejoicing filled their hearts…he couldn’t help but dance…

The Ark was “Home”…almost…God had blessed…

I hope we have days that we can “dance” before the Lord…days of praise that cannot be doused…I know I have had those…

Thank YOU…

Now King David was told, “The Lord has blessed the household of Obed-Edom and everything he has, because of the ark of God.” So David went to bring up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with rejoicing. When those who were carrying the ark of the Lord had taken six steps, he sacrificed a bull and a fattened calf. Wearing a linen ephod, David was dancing before the Lord with all his might, while he and all Israel were bringing up the ark of the Lord with shouts and the sound of trumpets. They brought the ark of the Lord and set it in its place inside the tent that David had pitched for it, and David sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings before the Lord. After he had finished sacrificing the burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord Almighty. Then he gave a loaf of bread, a cake of dates and a cake of raisins to each person in the whole crowd of Israelites, both men and women. And all the people went to their homes.

2Sam.6.12-15, 17-19

I will exalt you, Lord, for you lifted me out of the depths and  did not let my enemies gloat over me.

Lord my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me.

You, Lord, brought me up from the realm of the dead;you spared me from going down to the pit.

Sing the praises of the Lord, you his faithful people;praise his holy name.

For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime;weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.

When I felt secure, I said,“I will never be shaken.”

Lord, when you favored me,you made my royal mountain stand firm;but when you hid your face,I was dismayed.

To you, Lord, I called;to the Lord I cried for mercy: “What is gained if I am silenced,if I go down to the pit?

Will the dust praise you?

Will it proclaim your faithfulness?

Hear, Lord, and be merciful to me;Lord, be my help.”

You turned my wailing into dancing;you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, that my heart may sing your praises and not be silent.

Lord my God, I will praise you forever.
