 Because of his words….

In her excitement, her water was left at the well…hurrying to tell her people…”come , see a man who told me everything I ever did, could this be the Christ?”…

Later after hearing his teaching, these same people said, “now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.”

Jesus stayed with these people for two days, teaching…these despised, rejected Samaritans…half-breeds, not fully Jews…they believed…Jesus by his words…the Word who became flesh not only for the Jews, but the Samaritans….the world…

Thank YOU….

John 4:41 And because of his words many more became believers.

John 17: . 17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.

Isaiah 55:11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp for my feet,
    a light on my path.

Sowing and reaping…

Sowing and reaping….

When I went to China several years ago with a group to help teens speak better English, at the end one of the participants complained that she hadn’t been able to lead anyone to Christ…so the trip had been a failure as far as she was concerned. I don’t know if any of us had led any of the students to Christ, but we sure had lots of great discussions, not only with the students, but the school administrators and the janitors as well…We sowed lots of seeds…God was in charge of the harvest…

One place we are may be for sowing and another may be for harvesting… both are important in the big picture…

Thank YOU…

35 Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. 36 Even now the one who reaps draws a wage and harvests a crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together. 37 Thus the saying ‘One sows and another reaps’ is true. 38 I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labor.”

John 4:35-38

37 They sowed fields and planted vineyards
    that yielded a fruitful harvest;

Psalm 107:37

6 Those who go out weeping,
    carrying seed to sow,
will return with songs of joy,
    carrying sheaves with them.

Psalm 126:6

Then he told them many things in parables, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. 9 Whoever has ears, let them hear.”

Matthew 13:3-9

18 “Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: 19 When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path. 20 The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. 21 But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. 22 The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful. 23 But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”

Matthew13:18-23

6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. 9 As it is written:

“They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor;
    their righteousness endures forever.”

10 Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. 11 You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

2 Corinthians 9:6-11

Living water…

 Living water….

Having lived in the Great Basin in the U.S., you learn that you never go anywhere without taking water with you…there maybe some along the way or in streams in the mountains or it may be completely barren…

There are even places that the government has set up water catching tanks for the animals…so you know it is dry…Nevada’s annual rainfall ranges from 4.5 to 9.5 inches…

The Word speaks of water, regular and divine living water…how we need to seek the springs of living water, fountain of life…spiritual water that only comes from God which leads us to eternal life…seek His water…

10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”

John 4:10

13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.

John 4:13-14

1As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, my God.
2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When can I go and meet with God?

Psalm 42:1-2

55 “Come, all you who are thirsty,
    come to the waters;
and you who have no money,
    come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk
    without money and without cost.

Isaiah 55:1

13 “My people have committed two sins:
They have forsaken me,
    the spring of living water,
and have dug their own cisterns,
broken cisterns that cannot hold water.

Jeremiah 2:13

13 “On that day a fountain will be opened to the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and impurity.

Zechariah 13:1

For with you is the fountain of life;
in your light we see light.

Psalm 36:9

13 Lord, you are the hope of Israel;
all who forsake you will be put to shame.
Those who turn away from you will be written in the dust
because they have forsaken the Lord,
    the spring of living water.

Jeremiah 17:1

Born again…

Born again…

Yesterday was movie day, “the Great Awakening “ was showing at one of the local theaters…so I went with one of my sons and his wife to see it…worth it! Even with no popcorn….the life of George Whitfield…

As I was reading about Nicodemus and  his night visit with Jesus…his questions and Jesus’ answers….

Jesus Teaches Nicodemus

3 Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. 2 He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.”

3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”

4 “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!”

5 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. 7 You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”

9 “How can this be?” Nicodemus asked.

10 “You are Israel’s teacher,” said Jesus, “and do you not understand these things? 11 Very truly I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony. 12 I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things? 13 No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man. 14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15 that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.”

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.

John 3:1-21

This is truth today as much as it was truth in Jesus’ time…

This was one of the main  truths that George Whitfield taught…it awakened a nation before it became a nation…he taught straight from the Word, Jesus’ own words…

The words we all need to adhere to…you must be born again…

Thank YOU…

“For Whitefield, central to being born again were the themes of union with Christ, the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit, and the emphasis on inward transformation that would continue to resonate throughout his ministry.”……

“By his own admission, Whitefield didn’t see himself as a theologian—at least not a theologian of the conventional sort. Instead of writing systematic theologies, Whitefield preferred to communicate his theology through sermons. Most of his evangelistic sermons feature three doctrines: conviction of sin, justification by grace through faith, and the necessity of experiencing the new birth.”

Tiny peaches…

 Tiny peaches….

Two weeks ago, my fruit trees were in full bloom, wasn’t sure of any would make it because of the freezes we are having and are having again this  week. Yesterday I took a bit of time to check them and there were tiny peaches about 1/4-1/2 inch big…they are shaped like miniature peaches even with the fuzz on them…

This past couple of years, my family has had the privilege to see ultrasound pictures of new family members developing in the womb …little fingers, toes, body all the beginnings of a new person joining the family circle….

What miracles….and they are happening all around us…

Jesus turning the water into wine, his “first of miraculous signs “…John describes it…I know what he meant, but to say that of the Creator seems odd…

6 stone water jars, 120+/- gallons of fresh water…turned to fine quality wine… just like that … no words, no magic, no big show, no

touching….Jesus did it ….and the disciples put their faith in him…

You wonder what happened to the servants after that miracle that they took part in….did they become followers…we don’t know…

We have the written account of the event…what would we do?

We have miracles all around us and we may take them for granted…I hope not…I want to be amazed and praise the one who does them …that tiny person forming,  that tiny peach growing …plus zillions more…

John 2:1-11

On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, 2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.”

4 “Woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.”

5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”

6 Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.

7 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim.

8 Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.”

They did so, 9 and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside 10 and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”

11 What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.

Come and see…

 Come and see…

Nazareth was known for a pretty rough town in Jesus’ time…a Roman garrison was stationed there, not giving the town the best of reputations.

Jesus came from Nazareth…

Nathanael asked Philip,”Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?”…

“Come and see,” said Philip.

47 When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, “Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.”

48 “How do you know me?” Nathanael asked.

Jesus answered, “I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you.”

49 Then Nathanael declared, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the king of Israel.”

50 Jesus said, “You believe because I told you I saw you under the fig tree. You will see greater things than that.” 51 He then added, “Very truly I tell you, you will see ‘heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on’ the Son of Man.”

John 1:46-51

Some of us tend to stereotype people, foods, places and get stuck in our rut of never trying anything new…just think if Nathanael had not  got out of his preconceived ideas, he may never been a disciple of Christ…he may never had seen Jesus’ miracles…and so on…but he did and Jesus knew he would…

Come and see…

come and taste…

come and feel…

Come and live…

Come and be saved…

We don’t want to miss out….on Jesus…

Thank YOU….

Wanting best for others…

 Wanting the best for others…

As John the Baptist was pointing the way to Jesus, that meant he had to lose his own disciples… had he been grooming them to leave…it is tough sometimes to lose friends to a better cause, you mentor the ones that God has  put in your path, knowing that at some point they will be leaving for another task or ministry. Like a teacher who has a group of children and they change every year…you want them to succeed and go further, but it hard to lose them…

Here, John is pointing them to God in the flesh who came to save them and the world…so an unfathomable gift to them…and he wanted the best for others…

We can’t be the all in all to everyone, but we can point them to the One who can…

Thank YOU…

John. 1:35 The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. 36 When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!”

37 When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus. 38 Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?”

They said, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?”

39 “Come,” he replied, “and you will see.”

So they went and saw where he was staying, and they spent that day with him. It was about four in the afternoon.

40 Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. 41 The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ). 42 And he brought him to Jesus.

Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas” (which, when translated, is Peter).

Jesus Calls Philip and Nathanael

43 The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. Finding Philip, he said to him, “Follow me.”

44 Philip, like Andrew and Peter, was from the town of Bethsaida. 45 Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”

46 “Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” Nathanael asked.

John knew his purpose…

 John knew his purpose….

John:1:26 “I baptize with water,” John replied, “but among you stands one you do not know. 27 He is the one who comes after me, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.”

I saw the movie,“I can imagine 2”….there is a scene in it that caught my heart and meant so much to me personally….

The song writer, Tim, told Bart about a song he was writing and having trouble with…then he said, “ I  think you this song is yours not mine “, humbly giving the song over to Bart….who finished it, making it into a hit with his heart in it…

Tim continues to write songs now and we probably would recognize his songs if we searched out who the writer was…we tend to lift up the singers more than the writers…the words coming from heart lessons usually…and speak to the writer, the musician and the audiences…

John knew his purpose in life was one of preparing the way for Jesus…he knew in his mother’s womb, he knew when he described himself…

(John 1:15John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’”) 16 Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.

John the Baptist Denies Being the Messiah

19 Now this was John’s testimony when the Jewish leaders in Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him who he was. 20 He did not fail to confess, but confessed freely, “I am not the Messiah.”

21 They asked him, “Then who are you? Are you Elijah?”

He said, “I am not.”

“Are you the Prophet?”

He answered, “No.”

22 Finally they said, “Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?”

23 John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, “I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord.’”

24 Now the Pharisees who had been sent 25 questioned him, “Why then do you baptize if you are not the Messiah, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”

26 “I baptize with water,” John replied, “but among you stands one you do not know. 27 He is the one who comes after me, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.”

I wonder what the world would be like if we all fully sought the path God  has for each of us as John did…

Thank YOU…

 John the Baptist enters…

It is interesting following John the Baptist…he was Jesus’ earthly cousin….he was foretold about in the book of Isaiah, he leaped in his mother’s womb when Mary carrying Jesus came close…he was a man of God, he had an interesting diet, he was  a child  of barren parents, he lived in the desert , his father was a priest, all the gospels speak of him, he baptized Jesus, he confronted people about their ways, he was zealous for godly things, among a few things….

He followed the path that  God had planned to the end…

Thank YOU….

In the time of Herod king of Judea there was a priest named Zechariah, who belonged to the priestly division of Abijah; his wife Elizabeth was also a descendant of Aaron. 6 Both of them were righteous in the sight of God, observing all the Lord’s commands and decrees blamelessly. 7 But they were childless because Elizabeth was not able to conceive, and they were both very old.

8 Once when Zechariah’s division was on duty and he was serving as priest before God, 9 he was chosen by lot, according to the custom of the priesthood, to go into the temple of the Lord and burn incense. 10 And when the time for the burning of incense came, all the assembled worshipers were praying outside.

11 Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing at the right side of the altar of incense. 12 When Zechariah saw him, he was startled and was gripped with fear. 13 But the angel said to him: “Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to call him John. 14 He will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth, 15 for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He is never to take wine or other fermented drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even before he is born. 16 He will bring back many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God. 17 And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous—to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

18 Zechariah asked the angel, “How can I be sure of this? I am an old man and my wife is well along in years.”

19 The angel said to him, “I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news. 20 And now you will be silent and not able to speak until the day this happens, because you did not believe my words, which will come true at their appointed time.”

21 Meanwhile, the people were waiting for Zechariah and wondering why he stayed so long in the temple. 22 When he came out, he could not speak to them. They realized he had seen a vision in the temple, for he kept making signs to them but remained unable to speak.

23 When his time of service was completed, he returned home. 24 After this his wife Elizabeth became pregnant and for five months remained in seclusion. 25 “The Lord has done this for me,” she said. “In these days he has shown his favor and taken away my disgrace among the people.”

Luke 1:5-25

39 At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, 40 where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth. 41 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. 42 In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! 43 But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? 44 As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. 45 Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!”

Luke 1:39-45

57 When it was time for Elizabeth to have her baby, she gave birth to a son. 58 Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown her great mercy, and they shared her joy.

59 On the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they were going to name him after his father Zechariah, 60 but his mother spoke up and said, “No! He is to be called John.”

61 They said to her, “There is no one among your relatives who has that name.”

62 Then they made signs to his father, to find out what he would like to name the child. 63 He asked for a writing tablet, and to everyone’s astonishment he wrote, “His name is John.” 64 Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue set free, and he began to speak, praising God. 65 All the neighbors were filled with awe, and throughout the hill country of Judea people were talking about all these things. 66 Everyone who heard this wondered about it, asking, “What then is this child going to be?” For the Lord’s hand was with him.

Zechariah’s Song

67 His father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied:

68 “Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel,
because he has come to his people and redeemed them.
69 He has raised up a horn of salvation for us
in the house of his servant David
70 (as he said through his holy prophets of long ago),
71 salvation from our enemies
and from the hand of all who hate us—
72 to show mercy to our ancestors
and to remember his holy covenant,
73     the oath he swore to our father Abraham:
74 to rescue us from the hand of our enemies,
and to enable us to serve him without fear
75     in holiness and righteousness before him all our days.

76 And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High;
for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him,
77 to give his people the knowledge of salvation
through the forgiveness of their sins,
78 because of the tender mercy of our God,
by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven
79 to shine on those living in darkness
and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into the path of peace.”

80 And the child grew and became strong in spirit; and he lived in the wilderness until he appeared publicly to Israel.

Luke 1:57-80

6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.

John 1:6-8

3 In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea 2 and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” 3 This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah:

“A voice of one calling in the wilderness,
‘Prepare the way for the Lord,
    make straight paths for him.’”

4 John’s clothes were made of camel’s hair, and he had a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey. 5 People went out to him from Jerusalem and all Judea and the whole region of the Jordan. 6 Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River.

7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he was baptizing, he said to them: “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? 8 Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. 9 And do not think you can say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. 10 The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.

11 “I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 12 His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

The Baptism of Jesus

13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. 14 But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”

15 Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented.

16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

Matthew 3:3-17

3 In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea 2 and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” 3 This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah:

“A voice of one calling in the wilderness,
‘Prepare the way for the Lord,

Mark 3:3-12

Words of truth…

I wish my traveler from last week could have read the book of John, but alas, it was probably written many years after Jesus death and resurrection…aren’t we blessed to have the written Word now…but, we don’t get the feel of the real culture and happenings of that time…we can read about them, but that is not quite the same thing…but we have a look into people lives with the writings….

It is said that the deity of Christ is found  in every  chapter of the book of John…by what Jesus calls himself and John giving a personal account of his friendship and life of following Jesus during this time with Him…what a gift…

John 1:1-5

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

(Rev.19: 3 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God.

John 17:5 And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.

1 John 1: 2 The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us.

Philippians 2: 6 Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;)

2 He was with God in the beginning.

(Genesis 1: 1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.)

3 Through him all things were :made; without him nothing was made that has been made.

(1 Cor 8: , 6 yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.

4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.

(John 5: 26 For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself. )

5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

(John 3:21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.)

Thank YOU…

It is not over…

 It is not over….

I looked out my window early this morning to see some women hurrying past carrying cloths, plus another package of something fragrant…these were the same women who were at the crucifixion near Jesus….I wondered if they were going to finish preparing Jesus for burial…I don’t think that got done the other night…I am packing to get in the road soon…after a good day of rest….it is time to come home…

Another earthquake woke me up earlier…this town and its earthquakes, that’s two in past few days…I wonder if it is always this shaky…

I went out to find some food for my travels as the shops along the way were opening with their fresh goods to sell…there still seemed to be a lot of talk of the crucifixions the other day…I was my hoping not to hear about those gruesome deaths, it turned my stomach at the cruelty….

All of the sudden those women came running back, excited…looking for Jesus’ disciples….then some Roman guards ran by as well…I wonder what had happened…

I found out later that the guards went to tell the chief priests that Jesus was not in the tomb, the stone had rolled away, an Angel had told the women that Jesus was alive, raised from the dead…the angel told to women to tell the disciples to meet him in Galilee…

The chief priests sure didn’t like that and plotted to tell lies about his disappearance….

“Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

My heart which had been troubled, felt such joy over this news…

Before I left for home, I asked around to find out some of the words that Jesus hand told those in the area…

The following are a few…he taught so much…for three years..

Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matt.11:29-30

Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. John 6:35

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”John 8:12

Very truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!”John 8:58

While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” John 9:5

I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture.

I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. John10:9,14

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe  this? John 11:25-26

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6

Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves.John 14:11

On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.” John 14:20-21

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.John 15:1

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

I decided after hearing all these sayings, plus so many more…I wanted that eternal life that this man, Jesus offered…especially knowing that he raised from the grave…he appeared to so many just as if he wasn’t on the cross the other day…bloodied and torn…I want what he has to offer…I want my heart clean and my life changed…

Another thought, maybe instead of the idols we have been making, we could carve crosses…maybe, they would sell….

See you soon and then we can talk more about this journey…

 Ah, a day of rest….

I was ready for some rest and contemplation time…

After a week of bargaining and bartering, plus the drama of events surrounding his man, Jesus, I needed some rest…

Jerusalem almost closes down on the Jewish Sabbath…I finally went for a walk, finding some groups of people here and there…many discussing the events of the last two days…who was to this man? The earthquake…the darkness…the cruelty of the Romans…

I returned to my room, ready to pack and ready for my return trip . I bought a few things to sell with our wares…still feel a need not to sell our carved idols…there has to be something more meaningful…

I will make this short and prepare for the night…

Rest well my friend….

Saturday, April 4, 2026

 Good evening….

Today has been the most unforgettable day…I finished with our final sales and am questioning our wares. Many of these people talk of only one God not a plethora of gods like we carve for many people…they talk of their laws, one of which is about being one God and not worshipping anyone else but Him…this Jesus claims to be their God’s son and that he was  sent from him to bring people to Him…

I have asked so many questions, I am sure they are tired of them…but it is so important to know the truth before I leave here… but, be thinking of another way or something other we can carve to bring in funds for a living… I can’t do the idols anymore…gods made by human hands just don’t make sense anymore..

The men who took Jesus away last night stayed up until they got their way, which was killing  Jesus on trumped up charges…they beat him until he was unrecognizable…using thorns, whips, humiliation…he was awful to look upon as I stood beside the trail watching him struggle up the hill to the place chosen for crucifixions…many of the city were standing  with me, some spitting on him as he trudged forward carrying the heavy wooden cross…others weeping at the sight of their teacher and friend…finally the Romans forced a man from the crowd to help  him carry the cross…Jesus looked near exhaustion and ready to collapse…there were two others who were going to be crucified as well..

The soldiers, the and the prisoners finally reached the spot, the top of a hill named Golgotha, the place of the Skull…

There the soldiers laid down the cross and nailed each man’s hands and feet to the cross, picked up the cross and plunked it into the prepared hole…

There they would die a cruel death, exposed to all, unable to breathe sufficiently, loss of blood, unfed…the Romans soldiers are cruel men.

One of the other prisoners talked to Jesus and Jesus told him because of his belief, he would see him in paradise…what a hope to look forward to..

Some of Jesus disciples were there…as well as his suffering mother…he told one of the disciples to care for her…

Others in the crowd mocked, insulted, scoffed at him, generally made fun of him..and Jesus’ response was, “ Father forgive them, for they do know what they are doing.”

I wonder how many of these same people were on the road at the beginning of the week, singing, “Hosanna”. What a switch in people’s demeanor.

So there was hate on one side with hurt and sadness on the other…

One of the rulers had put a sign on Jesus’ cross, “ the King of the Jews”, what an interesting sign, as he was being crucified for that charge..

The soldiers sat around the base of the crosses, gambling for Jesus’ clothing…apparently his clothing had no seams, so it may have been valuable…

Then the oddest thing happed at noon, darkness came over the whole land for three hours. The temple priests said the curtain was torn from top to bottom, the earth shook, rocks split in two, tombs opened and people came out.

Jesus gave up his last breath…

One of the centurions stated as all this was happening, “ surely he was the  son of God”…..

Now the crowd dispersed and went their way as it was a holiday from night fall on…

One of the last people around was a man came and asked for Jesus’ body to carry it to an empty tomb…where a guard was posted…in case of robbery….

All in all, it was an exciting and horrible day. One, I personally don’t  want to repeat….this man, Jesus was dead…

I will close for now. Tomorrow is a day of rest and I mean to make good use of that…this week has been so up and down. I will start on my journey home, disheartened, the first of the week.

Your friend…

 Arrest…

Another day….

I arrived in the city on the week of the Jewish Passover. I asked around about what this meant…they are celebrating the release from the Egyptian slavery hundreds of years ago…the “Passover” was the angel of death who  passed over those who had their doorposts painted with a pure lamb’s blood…otherwise the first born of the other homes died that night…

I guess the Egyptians practically begged the Israelites to leave their country, giving them their wealth as they journeyed out of Egypt…

The Jews have a dinner celebrating the Passover on this day of the week…I was told that Jesus took his disciples into a house which had an upper room for their celebration…apparently he told them of his coming crucifixion, taught them how to celebrate the future without him with a cup of wine and a loaf of bread to remember him by…

He knew that one of his disciples had betrayed him to the religious leaders who  were still looking for a way to get rid of him as they feared he would take away their power…( how would you like to have a church leader who has that kind of hatred in their heart?)

The betrayer was Judas who took care of the money for the group..

Another thing that happened in the room was the leader, Jesus washed his disciple’s feet of all things..can you imagine? Washing feet is a servant’s job, even in our culture, not a leader’s…I guess he was showing them servanthood, humility and serving with love…he was not what these people expected of him, a king riding on a kingly horse to conquer the Romans…

All the disciples pledged to follow this Jesus no matter what…

After the dinner, all the men except Judas went to a place called Gethsemane…where they prayed…he told them.”My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death, pray with me”…and asking God who he claimed as his father to please save him from what was coming…, but his disciples kept falling asleep.

Then he called them to rise and meet the betrayer …who came with a large armed crowd. Judas kissed Jesus upon meeting him, a sign he had arranged with the chief priests and elders before hand to show who was Jesus…(they should have known, as they saw him frequently)…

They seized Jesus and arrested him, took him to the high priest, where the teachers and elders had assembled. Only Peter of all the disciples followed, the others fled.

Thera priest were looking for any false evidence to put Jesus to death, but they couldn’t find any… Jesus was silent throughout all of this dialogue…

Finally, the high priest said to Jesus, ““I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God.”

“You have said so,” Jesus replied. “But I say to all of you: From now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.”

Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, “He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy.

“What do you think?”

“He is worthy of death,” they answered.

Then they spit in his face and struck him with their fists. Others slapped him and said, “Prophesy to us, Messiah. Who hit you?”

Peter, who had followed denied Jesus three times and afterwards felt great sadness for turning his back on his friend…

You know, dear friend , I have not told you everything that has happened…so much more , I will wait to see you face to face to tell you all…but, I do know this, from coming into this city, on this particular week, I feel was no accident…I feel I am meant to be here right now…there is something about this man, which draws me…I don’t understand why or how, but it is there wooing me to take what he has said or others have said about him and to believe far beyond just knowing, but a heart and soul belief…something I have never experienced before…

Thank you for listening…I am tired for now …it has been a very long and tumultuous day.. I have never seen such hatred and such love…

Thursday, April 2, 2026

Dear friend,I fear this letter is getting long…but there is so much to observe and tell…and I am not getting but a piece of the telling of this great city or of this man, Jesus…there are so many people! But our goods are selling well.this city will be a good one to return with more goods at a later date, I hope to be sold out by the time I leave…

The people…there are many people here, rich or poor, various cultures, government, or religious…

On the top, it seems to be Roman soldiers and rulers…they rule over this region now…the soldiers are brutish men who push their way through the throngs of people along the narrow streets…although I did meet one who had the air of authority, but seemed to treat others with respect…he came from Capernaum, he said…there he had met with Jesus asking him if he would heal his servant who was ill…….Jesus didn’t even go to centurion’s home, but said it would be done and the servant was healed…

the Roman rulers seem interested only in padding their pockets with bribes for this and that…

The religious leaders of these Jews seem more interested in proudly walking around the streets trying to impress others with their robes, knowledge of the law and looking for ways to judge others…they are opposed to this man, Jesus, because he has become so popular and treats others as a shepherd , teaching the love of one another rather that man’s traditions and laws, plus he stands up to their  proudness…and he calls himself the Son of God…apparently that didn’t go over too well with the religious leaders…it is said that these leaders are looking for a way to end Jesus’ popularity and do away with him…so far they haven’t been successful…

Then there is just the common people, the shop keepers, the fisherman-smelling like fish, the travelers like me, the children running along the pathways, the residents of the city…these are the ones who are the backbone of the area…but, they are hungry for a promised Messiah who was promised by their prophets of old…they want self rule without the Romans, they want a Jewish ruler…to make everything “right”…they keep looking toward this Jesus as this new Ruler, but he has not shown that inclination as he has wondered the area…he insists on teaching about servanthood, love, forgiveness , the future times, parables about so much, the kingdom of God and so on…plus all the healing he has done…from blind men to his friend, a lame man to a woman who touched his garment, many, many, many more…

Jesus is always surrounded by people, but 12 men seem to be the core group. His disciples, they are called…he is intent on teaching them all the time as if time is short…these men come from  a variety of backgrounds, none highly educated, fishermen, a tax collector ..and Jesus himself was trained in carpentry, but he speaks as though he was educated in the best schools of the time…

Well, I must close again…time to rest for the next adventures tomorrow….

Wednesday, April 1, 2026

Okay, I have a quite of bits of my business concluded…now I can write of this weeks events with this man, Jesus…

As I mentioned before, he came right into town on a donkey(I still can’t get over that, the children, the adults praising him).

From that procession, he went to the temple…

This gets interesting…he entered the temple area and drove out all who were buying and. selling there…the merchants had set up their booths inside and were selling animals that others were using for sacrifices, there were money changers as well exchanging currencies for people who were not local…apparently these people were overcharging and deceptively using this opportunity to gain wealth from the foreigners…( it seems that there is that problem here just like in our country, people taking advantage of others, I guess wrong does exist everywhere)…

He even said,  “ my house will be called a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of robbers.”

After all the merchants left, Jesus proceeded to heal the blind and the lame….can you imagine, right there he healed them and they walked away  new people, healed …I have never seen anything like it…and, of all things the leaders instead of rejoicing over the healing, they were indignant….I wish I could have had our dear sister here . What a wonderful thing to see her healed by this man…maybe I could bring her back here someday…

Following that, he left, some said he went to the city of Bethany , not too far away…I retired to my lodgings as well…

The following day, he came back and taught in the temple…he taught about things I have ever heard, he taught with authority…all kinds of people were there listening intently, as did I…

The leaders challenged him again and he stood up to them…

He taught in stories, parables…talked about the kingdom of God…things like I have never heard, my heart was so overwhelmed by him, his demeanor, his words…

I didn’t know it then but the leaders were trying to find ways to trap him and arrest him….

One of the things he said, “But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. They tie up heavy, cumbersome loads and put them on other people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.”

Then he addressed them with “woe to you several times”…it is a wonder the leaders could stand before his wrath…

From there he walked with his friends to the place they call the Mount of Olives. Where he proceeded to tell them about the “end times”…I didn’t even know there was going to be end times…doesn’t the world just keep on going forever…not from what he said…it didn’t sound pleasant I can tell you…and then his “return”…hummmm…he called himself the Christ, the Son of Man…talking about “Salvation , the gospel…

These things  are words I have never heard before…I need to investigate….

Closing for now….
