One small stone, one big faith…

One small stone, one big faith….

As I was reading  about David and Goliath this morning, God brought to mind this last year ….

A year ago I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer…the big “C” word, that no one wants to hear…in our family we have heard it a lot…leukemia, colon, lung, prostate, liver, melanoma, skin, Hodgkins, brain, breast and now, ovarian…some treatable and some not….

I thought of David and his five smooth stones…his undoubting faith in God…

Then he took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepherd’s bag and, with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine.

David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”

As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him. Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell facedown on the ground.

So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; without a sword in his hand he struck down the Philistine and killed him.

1Sam.17:40, 45-50

Each of us may fight a battle, but the words that David  said, “for the battle is the Lord’s “…is the bottom line…whether with a small stone, a small vial of cancer killing drugs, a myriad of other tools to fight the myriad of battles we face daily…it is still in God’s hands…

Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens.

Ps.68.19

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Matt.11.28-30

I am soooooo thankful for all the burden bearers who came along side me in my battle…..

Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

Gal.6.2

Firm foundation…
