Pride and vengeance….

Reading about Samson again…

When I think about pride and vengeance in the Bible, my two top examples, and there are others,  are Samson in the Book of Judges  and Haman in the book of Esther…

Of course there are some differences…

Both had a special position…Samson a judge who made it to the faith Chapter in Hebrews…Haman was a high advisor to a king, but was killed in disgrace…so may similarities and differences…

Would love to be counted among the faithful as Samson, but not face all the trials and bad decisions he made… head strong and willful, a picture of the Israelites, back and forth, obedient and disobedient.

Ps.10.3-4

 Therefore pride is their necklace;violence covers them as a garment.

Ps.73.6

 The fear of the Lord is hatred of evil.Pride and arrogance and the way of eviland perverted speech I hate.

Prov.8.13

 When pride comes, then comes disgrace,but with the humble is wisdom.

Prov.11.2

 Pride goes before destruction,and a haughty spirit before a fall.

Prov.16.18

 For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”

Mark.7.21-23

 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world.

1John.2.15-16

 Vengeance is mine, and recompense,for the time when their foot shall slip;for the day of their calamity is at hand,and their doom comes swiftly.’
