Babysitter…

I had a “babysitter” for awhile when I was in grade school. She was always there when I got home from school until my parents arrived home from work… it wasn’t that I really needed one, but, a neighbor had abused me and taunted me when I arrived home alone….

That aside, this “babysitter” or friend as we really called her…loved soap operas and would watch them while she ironed awaiting my parents arrival…so  that was my introduction and only time I watched them…

They were filled with drama, with a variety of storylines concurrently weaving themselves together…jealousy, forbidden love, current events or lifestyles were featured and on and on…

As I read this verse about Saul….

When Saul realized that the Lord was with David and that his daughter Michal loved David, Saul became still more afraid of him, and he remained his enemy the rest of his days.

1Sam.18.28-29

I was drawn back to those soap opera days…the jealousy, the intrigue, the intensity of various relationships…

Paul, in the New Testament, lists traits of an ungodly life…acts of the flesh…followed by the fruit of the Spirit…

Fruit from the Spirit which we need to drawn on as we grow in our faith, our walk with God…not following the flesh…

Not being drawn in by the soap operas of life…and living there…

Instead living in love, joy peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control…a much better life…

Thank YOU….

For I am afraid that when I come I may not find you as I want you to be, and you may not find me as you want me to be. I fear that there may be discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, slander, gossip, arrogance and disorder 2Cor.12.20

The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like.

I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

Gal.5.19-26
