Farewell….
Samuel said to all Israel, “I have listened to everything you said to me and have set a king over you. Now you have a king as your leader. As for me, I am old and gray, and my sons are here with you. I have been your leader from my youth until this day. Here I stand. Testify against me in the presence of the Lord and his anointed. Whose ox have I taken? Whose donkey have I taken? Whom have I cheated? Whom have I oppressed? From whose hand have I accepted a bribe to make me shut my eyes? If I have done any of these things, I will make it right.”
1Sam.12.1-3
The first we hear of Samuel is the beginning of the book of 1 Samuel..before he was born…
Here he is in Chapter 12 giving his farewell speech…..and he doesn’t actually die until Chapter 25 …he apparently was in his 50’s…he anointed two kings, saw the nation of Israel move from a loosely governed tribal people to a monarchy which they demanded…was a trusted judge, leader, prophet…
His leadership, his faithfulness were well known…
What do we leave behind…what will be our legacy, our report…
Thank YOU….
The Lord was with Samuel as he grew up, and he let none of Samuel’s words fall to the ground. And all Israel from Dan to Beersheba recognized that Samuel was attested as a prophet of the Lord.
1Sam.3.19-20
Moses and Aaron were among his priests,Samuel was among those who called on his name;they called on the Lordand he answered them. He spoke to them from the pillar of cloud;they kept his statutes and the decrees he gave them.
Ps.99.6-7
Then the Lord said to me: “Even if Moses and Samuel were to stand before me, my heart would not go out to this people. Send them away from my presence! Let them go!
Jer.15.1
“Indeed, beginning with Samuel, all the prophets who have spoken have foretold these days. And you are heirs of the prophets and of the covenant God made with your fathers. He said to Abraham, ‘Through your offspring all peoples on earth will be blessed.’ When God raised up his servant, he sent him first to you to bless you by turning each of you from your wicked ways.
Acts.3.24-26
And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson and Jephthah, about David and Samuel and the prophets, who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; …. Heb.11.32,Heb.11.33a
Gray hair is a crown of splendor;it is attained in the way of righteousness. The glory of young men is their strength, gray hair the splendor of the old.
Prov.16.31,Prov.20.29
