Earthquakes....

Earthquakes...

I just read of an earthquake off the coast of Oregon again...more 

Tremors  in Nepal...

Earthquakes are a way of life in certain communities...they hit periodically and not one seems to take much notice..they put chains on their cabinets, no high shelves with glassware...

Several years ago, there was a devastating  one in Turkey, China, Haiti, Thailand, Japan ...just lately in Nepal, all over the world...and there is supposed to be more...

I grew up with earthquakes...I didn't like them...they were eery...some were hard jolts, others were rollers, like waves....but they all got your attention..

At th end of Christ's life, when he said..."it is finished", Matthew records the following...

Matthew 27:51-52 At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split and the tombs broke open. 

And then on the third day after His cruxificition, there was another earthquake ...

Did the people run out of their homes ...wondering again why another earthquake? Had they slept in the streets as so many people do after a great quake? We don't have any record of that at all, that I know of..it must have gotten someone's attention..the women were there to check in the tomb, which was now empty..the soldiers knew about it as well as they were paid to lie about an empty tomb...

Matthew 28:2 There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it.

There's other recorded Biblical earthquakes as well, historically ones and ones to come...we build houses that "earthquake proof", prepare for them as we can...but they will have their way..getting our attention on God Himself...through the mighty rumble or the gentle whisper as 

Elijah heard..He wants us to listen, pay attention...be aware...

Thank YOU for earthquakes to bring our attention back to You...the gentle whispers as well...they may be trembles of the earth and its movement or "earthquakes" in our lives...help me pay attention, to listen ...to prepare rightly...for all...

1 Kings 19:11-13 The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.”Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 

Isaiah 29:6 the Lord Almighty will come with thunder and earthquake and great noise,with windstorm and tempest and flames of a devouring fire. 

Matthew 24:7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 

Revelation 16:18-20 Then there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder and a severe earthquake. No earthquake like it has ever occurred since mankind has been on earth, so tremendous was the quake. The great city split into three parts, and the cities of the nations collapsed. God remembered Babylon the Great and gave her the cup filled with the wine of the fury of his wrath. Every island fled away and the mountains could not be found.
