Parallels....

Parallels.....

Over the years I have read through the New Testament more times than the old one...not that the old one isn't important ...no, no...it is there to learn from, to get perspective from, history, principles, songs...the whole picture of
Iife...
But as I was reading this a.m., I was again reminded how there are so many parallels between what God said in the old and new, how many times the old is spoken of in the new, how God worked in the old and the new...how God works in our lives...

As New Testament  believers, We are redeemed.....the Israelites were brought out of Egypt
We are chosen .....
We are admonished like they about whom to serve ...
So many parallels...God is the same yesterday, today and in the future ...

Jesus boils the Ten Commandments down ..."
Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
Matthew 22:36-40

“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
"You shall have no other gods before me.
"You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.
"You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
"Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, as the Lord your God has commanded you.
"Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the Lord your God is giving you.
"You shall not murder.
"You shall not commit adultery.
"You shall not steal.
You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife. You shall not set your desire on your neighbor’s house or land, his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”
These are the commandments the Lord proclaimed in a loud voice to your whole assembly there on the mountain from out of the fire, the cloud and the deep darkness; and he added nothing more. Then he wrote them on two stone tablets and gave them to me.
For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession. Deuteronomy 5:6-8, 11-12, 16-22

They faced fears just like we do...and Paul spoke to that as well...

You may say to yourselves, “These nations are stronger than we are. How can we drive them out? ” But do not be afraid of them; remember well what the Lord your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt. You saw with your own eyes the great trials, the signs and wonders, the mighty hand and outstretched arm, with which the Lord your God brought you out. The Lord your God will do the same to all the peoples you now fear.
Deuteronomy 7:6,17-19

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:37-39

We are being transformed daily ....as they were learning to live in faith...daily bread both for the body as well as for the soul..

They were brought into the promised land as we are promised heaven or living at peace with God on a daily basis...they had a cloud to lead in Moses' time and we have the Holy Spirit to counsel ....But God's presence was with them all the time just like present day...

The parallels go on and on...and it is interesting and a blessing to see how God works in the past as well in my life...how he teaches, blesses....thank YOU...
