50 years ago....December 28...
50 years ago today, I was getting married...nervous, sooo mature, ready to be a bride, ready to be a wife...naive...
Looking back, I wouldn't have traded it for anything...we had 43 great years until that dreaded 6 letter word entered our lives with vengeance to change our expectations, our "timing", our "plans"...our life's chapters had a different ending, but still by God's grace...it is still happily ever after...
And, Today I finished reading through the Bible again...there are "hallelujahs and hallelujahs", "it is done" repeated over again...a glorious ending to a glorious beginning for millions whose name is found in the Book of Life...a glorious feast...eternity...
Every time I read the Word, I find something new, a bottomless, endless treasure trove ...
Our marriage was rarely predictable...oh, we had the day in day out habits, but we were still learning about one another, our children, our grandchildren...life...God...everyday was precious and still is...a treasure as well...our family was blessed with long marriages...my grandparents, parents-in-law, my parents all passed the 50 year mark plus several more...what a heritage...
thank YOU for Your Word, Yourself, the gift of marriage...the celebrations we had, those to come...
"Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting: “Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready. Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear.” (Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of God’s holy people.) Then the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!” And he added, “These are the true words of God.” He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children."
Revelation 19:6-9,21:6-7
"Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church— for we are members of his body. “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.” This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband."
Ephesians 5:21-33
