Connectivity.....

Connectivity.....

Letters, letters, letters....my grandmother saved all the letters from each of her boys and families, as well as,all the cards from each occasion throughout the years.  I can see my dad finding these 37 years ago and storing them away to deal with later and now is later and he doesn't have to deal with them...these were written before email, etc. my parents wrote them every week , sent card for every occasion..so shoebox upon shoebox of cards and letters....everyday happenings, cute happenings , shared lives...one is my mother recalling a telephone conversation with my then two year son , after butchering chickens with his dad...such observations by a little boy....cute...

Some letters are serious as well, like the one my mother received from her pastor after the death of her mother, four typewritten pages long, on grief, consolation, care and comfort....he took that time with my family after the death on my dad as well....

Or another, written by my cousin who lived with my grandmother for a time after the death of my grandfather. My cousin was 23 at the time. He said he could deal with the physical care of her, but didn't know how to deal with the emotional trauma of loss....after 50 plus years of marriage....she said she felt like grandpa was going to walk through the door any minute...just the way I did for months after my husband's death....or wanting to write  to her about the daily news for years after her death....

Looking at those two letters in particular, I wish I could have talked to each my mother and grandmother about the deaths of their parents and spouses, now...gained some wisdom from them...but that wasn't God's plan...we each had to learn on our own...rely on His care and comfort, gain strength from His truths....fall into His loving arms with tears to shed ....

Thank YOU for connectivity through the written word, Your written word, words handed down over generations ....

1 Corinthians 2:12-13 What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.

Job 13:17 Listen carefully to what I say;let my words ring in your ears.

Job 23:12 I have not departed from the commands of his lips;I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread.

Psalm 18:30 As for God, his way is perfect:The Lord’s word is flawless;he shields all who take refuge in him.

Matthew 4:4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Sorting ...again....

Sorting ...again...

As I have sorted through my parents things in the past, I have put aside letters, stories, personal papers "to be sorted later"... Now I am opening up those boxes to peruse and sort again .....my dad wrote a lot of stories about his growing up years and he actually filled out those little books I gave him that asked all sorts of  questions ......

So I have my copier working for me, and we are working through all these papers with the goal of putting a lot into book form to share with children and cousins.....

It is fun and arduous at the same time.....receipts for the hospital bills when he was born($92), his first car, his appendicitis surgery as a child, grades from grammar school, love letters between my parents, pictures of old girl friends, a tee shirt from his first job, loan papers, ration certificates from World War 2, tokens for driving across the Golden Gate Bridge, packages of cowboy jokes(carefully clipped out of the western livestock journal for years), poems....

Sometimes it feels like he is right there in the room with me...chuckling over a forgotten piece of paper or rereading the jokes or looking and explaining long ago pictures with no notations.....sharing life again like he loved  to do .....

It is easier now, a year and a half out from his death, I am not so tired, I am able to think and process more clearly, can laugh easier, not needing tissues as much, not as mad at the circumstances of his death....time does help and give perspective...God continues to comfort.....thank YOU for that...

I loved my parents, they were upstanding people, not perfect, but wonderful to family and those around them...they were truly the salt of the earth...they were honest, hardworking, interested in the world, creative, .....they loved me, their parents, their grandchildren and great grandchildren and they loved God....what a heritage....

Thank YOU for allowing me the privilege to sort again, finding reminders of heritage....of loving parents, loving family, connections through generations...

Deuteronomy 32:7 Remember the days of old;consider the generations long past.Ask your father and he will tell you, your elders, and they will explain to you.

Psalm 22:30-31 Posterity will serve him;future generations will be told about the Lord. They will proclaim his righteousness, declaring to a people yet unborn:He has done it!

Psalm 71:18 Even when I am old and gray,do not forsake me, my God,till I declare your power to the next generation, your mighty acts to all who are to come.

Psalm 78:4 We will not hide them from their descendants;we will tell the next generationthe praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done.

Psalm 102:18 Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the Lord:
Psalm 79:13 Then we your people, the sheep of your pasture, will praise you forever;from generation to generationwe will proclaim your praise.

Psalm 100:5 For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;his faithfulness continues through all generations.

As I am busy at my task-
A homey one of making applesauce-
My hands are busy so my mind has time to travel afar,
And I remember this friend and then another,
And recall the helping hand, kind deed or encouraging word,
Or even a tear filled eye, also many a smile or joke, then, too, I remember hearing someone say,
"Don't look back and think of yesterday",
But to me it is time worthwhile spent.
This  backward journey into the land of yesterday..
Just think what our lives would be
Without that road named memory...

Silent night.....

Silent night....

I was excited when the Christmas carol station finally announced that they were starting to play Christmas carols again this year..but when I tuned it in, it was hip hop, and a variety a very unusual carols, not the "oldies" ones which conjured up Christmas's past...

So I can go to YouTube and find lots of them....so am sharing this preceding one, beautiful to listen to....there are lots more as well...
For as long as I can remember we played Christmas music, either on the record player or my mother would sit down and play them on the piano with my dad accompanying on his harmonica...when we would gather as a big family on Christmas Day, we would do the same with all my cousins, aunt and uncles.....adding music in the background when we opened presents as well...it was just part of the ritual...as well as going to church on Christmas Eve , singing , hearing the Christmas Story from the book of Luke...

My dad would always read " 'twas the night before Christmas" from a very old children's book ,....

Music was always a part of my Christmas's...as it was on that first Christmas with an angel chorus ....I can't even imagine what it was like to see and hear angels sing and light up the heavens with their presence, proclaiming the birth of a Saviour ....for all.....

Luke 2:8-14 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

Thank YOU for music, memories of the past, but in all , the real reason we celebrate Christmas , the Birth of Your Son....

Christmas tree lights....

Matthew 5:14-16 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Christmas tree lights....

I have my really first Christmas  tree this year after several years without one....with lights and all...I just wasn't ready for one.....
Four years ago, we gathered at one of my daughters for Christmas at Thanksgiving after the death of my mother...three years ago, we gathered in an apartment near the cancer treatment center,..... two years ago we gathered here, but death was still fresh, tears near the surface....last year everyone of the children were here after the passing of my father. .....this year, I was ready for lights...and a tree...

The lights are on a timer, so they turn early in the dark morning and again in the dark evening....it is so cheery to walk out into the living area with twinkling lights shining in the wintery mornings....I was wondering how I could capture that  twinkling year around....it is amazing what a little light will do for our souls...

Light adds direction...illumination....dimension.....health...warmth....safety....
..enhancement......joy....

Thank YOU for your light in the world, my world...You have continued to shine  filling life with Your light in our dark times...you have directed, illumined our paths, given health to our weariness,  warmth to our coldness...safety through this passage of time...enhanced and changed our lives....adding joy when we need it....

Psalm 18:28 You, Lord, keep my lamp burning;my God turns my darkness into light.

Psalm 36:9 For with you is the fountain of life;in your light we see light.

Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp for my feet,a light on my path.

Genesis 1:3-5 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.

Proverbs 20:27 The human spirit is the lamp of the Lordthat sheds light on one’s inmost being.

John 12:46 I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.

2 Corinthians 4:6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.

Miser or not....

Mark 7:20-23 He went on: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them. For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”

Miser or not.....

I just finished a book on employment, what kind of employer or employee...
The man was detailing working for miserly employers, whose reputations were not the best, but the pay was great...or employers who had good reputations were  creative, empowering, but the pay was less...choices in the business world and how we deal with each....what our stress levels will accommodate...

It was opportune as well as the movies on tv are Scrooge-themed around this holiday season...there are so many events now that are fundraisers for a variety of needy organizations ....cans of food for admittance, Christmas trees  with ornaments listing needs of certain people...toys for tots boxes placed strategically....Salvation Army bell ringers.....prefilled grocery bags to purchase for the local food banks...corporations advertising their use of funds  for charity.... volumes of letters filled with needs of every culture, nation...needs...needs...needs...

Looking back over the years of our business, I hope we had the reputation of the more positive side of things and not the miserly reputation. I hope our employees felt valued for their help...empowered. ...and not too much stress...I know some of them sure knew a lot more than I ever did...and I appreciate their loyalty...

Thank YOU for the years of our business....the blessings of it...for so many ....help each person to have the wisdom to choose what is right for them....in employment, weighing the pros and cons prayerfully ....in their life's vocations....

Proverbs 22:1-4, 9 A good name is more desirable than great riches;to be esteemed is better than silver or gold. Rich and poor have this in common:The Lord is the Maker of them all. The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty. Humility is the fear of the Lord;its wages are riches and honor and life. The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor.

Proverbs 28:22, 25 The stingy are eager to get rich and are unaware that poverty awaits them. The greedy stir up conflict, but those who trust in the Lord will prosper.

To the ends of the earth....

Over the years, we have visited towns,  villages, cities which to me have been totally oppressive...there was such a darkness in them that it was almost touchable....we did our business and exited as soon as possible...some to which we never returned...some,  over time became less oppressive...

Whether in The far reaches of Asia, the end of South America, or the city next door each has had its own air about it...welcoming or not...it had nothing to do with my attitude, but at the time whether God was honored or not....or false gods prevailed...

Standing the the street corner of Ushuaia, Argentina, the southern most town of South America , was a young man handing out Christian  tracts to passersby...a mixture of people from all over the world...or visiting a Buddhist or Muslim temple in the heart of Asia,  a beam of light shown through, seeming to say, "I AM here"...or riding jeeps across the wide expanse of Mongolia with the Jesus Film crew, showing Jesus in film and life...building schools in the Ukraine, walking on the streets of Nepal, struggling the the tropics of Southeast Asia or Central America, raising a building or sitting in a cafe Australia, digging wells in drought ridden Africa....God's presence is there....you can't ignore Him....to the ends of the earth....

Thank YOU that nothing is too dark that Your light can't penetrate ......

Jesus calling-December 5
Let My Presence override everything you experience. Like a luminous veil of Light, I hover over you and everything around you. I am training you to stay conscious of Me in each situation you encounter.
When the patriarch Jacob ran away from his enraged brother, he went to sleep on a stone pillow in a land that seemed desolate. But after dreaming about heaven and angels and promises of My Presence, he awoke and exclaimed: “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.” His discovery was not only for him but for all who seek Me. Whenever you feel distant from Me, say: “Surely the Lord is in this place!” Then, ask Me to give you awareness of My Presence. This is a prayer that I delight to answer.
In the shelter of your presence you hide them from the intrigues of men; in your dwelling you keep them safe from accusing tongues.
—Psalm 31:20
When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep. He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. There above it stood the Lord, and he said: “I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying. Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring. I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.”

Skin cancer....

Skin cancer ..... Both of my parents had cancer as well as my husband. Several of my close Relatives have had cancer as well, some fatal and some not...but yesterday was my first bout with it...skin cancer, discovered by an continuously itchy patch on skin on my face... They did a local anesthetic, which meant from my nose to the back of my head was numbed, weird feeling...then the doctor scoops out small slices of skin, examines each for cancer until he finds no more , then sews it all back together, sprays it with the cold killing spray, bandages it all up, give you a list of care instructions and send you in your way...to return for suture removal at a later date... My "hole" was about the size of a dime and my question was,,,"now, will one eyebrow be higher than the other? As well as other obvious questions....the the law of gravity takes over stretchy skin into that downward spiral that seems to happening all over... As I was reclining in the "operating " seat, I thought we have come a long way from the priest examining sores on the people in the Old Testament to modern day surgery and extraction. Same close examination, though... Last year when I was Looking at various houses, we found mold in one, which was quickly treated and killed, I thought again of the Old Testament priests looking for growths in the walls of homes.. Examination, over and over again....how closely do I look/examine myself, my heart to see if it is clean? Do I ask God to examine as well? Even though I know He sees and knows everything, am I open to His perusal? Am I willing to let him cut out the cancerous thoughts, the rebelliousness, the ungodly ways, and let His healing power pervade my soul? Thank YOU for modern doctors to treat our unhealthy bodies, to examine them under microscope....but than YOU a as well for your examining eye and heart which reaches to our depths, desiring goodness to overtake the bad...help me to be clean and whole all the way through .... Leviticus 13:3 The priest is to examine the sore on the skin, and if the hair in the sore has turned white and the sore appears to be more than skin deep, it is a defiling skin disease. When the priest examines that person, he shall pronounce them ceremonially unclean. 2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test? Psalm 26:2 Test me, Lord, and try me,examine my heart and my mind; Jeremiah 17:10 “I the Lord search the heartand examine the mind,to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve.” 1 Corinthians 11:28 Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup.
