Namesake…2…

 Namesakes…2…

I was working on estate stuff, updating it as we do every year…legacy stuff, finances…realizing again how much God has blessed us…not only financially but with a heritage …I looked at some chains of names down through time…the youngest ones will not meet here those whose names they have been given …we have gotten so used to our pictures on our phones, that we sometimes forget to put them in albums to actually sit down, look at and talk about…

So, in my rabbit trail, I started pulling out old pictures of name sakes, where did they come from, who and how are they related to  the current generations…those namesakes were real people, they lived real lives, had their ups and downs just like we still do…

We know that God named Jesus, John…but, Jesus probably had earthly grandparents who were a part of his life…who loved him, played with him, bounced him on their knees…spoke wisdom into his life as he was growing up…he had a earthly father, Joseph, who probably took him into his carpentry shop and taught him how to safely use tools of his trade…

David may have known Ruth and Boaz, saw the kindness that Boaz showed to his wife Ruth…and his laborers…characteristics that would show up in his life…in caring for Jonathan’s son…

These make not be namesakes in name, but in character…traits that go from one generation to another…

We learn of God’s character qualities reading through Scripture…we get a picture of what He is like, past, present and future…how personal he is…

Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good!Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!

Ps.34.8

I am really not into genealogy…but I enjoy some of the family stories of past ancestors…I find solace that we lived very similar lives, we had family that loved us, took refuge in God …made it through the thick and thin of life’s adventures.

Thank YOU….

You are God alone…
