Stand up…

 Stand up…

“Get yourself ready! Stand up and say to them whatever I command you. Do not be terrified by them, or I will terrify you before them.

Today I have made you a fortified city, an iron pillar and a bronze wall to stand against the whole land—against the kings of Judah, its officials, its priests and the people of the land.

They will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord.

Jer.1.17-19

“The problems we may face today may not seem as ominous as Jeremiah’s, but they are critical to us and may overwhelm us!

God’s promise to Jeremiah and to us is nothing will defeat us completely, he will help us through the most agonizing problems.face each day with the assurance that God will be with you and see you through “

Bible study notes…

I have to admit this wasn’t what I thought about when I first read Jeremiah 1…but these words emerged for me personally…and hopefully a help for others as we face obstacles that seem insurmountable at times….i have  to agree with Jeremiah when he said, “I do not know how to speak”… but our Great God does…

Thank YOU…

Robin’s nest…

Robin’s nest…

Outside my dining/living room window is a small apple tree filled with fruit this year, growing well as it usually does…this summer there is an added feature, a Robin’s nest…it is filled with four beautiful Robin egg blue eggs… the mom and dad stand guard or sit on the eggs…if I go out into my patio, one or the other is sure to let me know I am in  their territory and too close to their home…they buzz me or try to lead me away from the nest…I have trimmed all the trees around them, leaving theirs untrimmed for protection…it is well hidden in the leaves and branches…

I read about the gestation period for the eggs and this next week should be a hatching time…then continual feeding time until they grow and fly away…

I am thankful that God gave this gift of watching new life taking place so close, just I watch my children, grandchildren and great grandchildren grow when I get a chance…it is comforting…

Over the year from time to time, I have shared verses of comfort…they have been ones I have found, ones sent or given to me, ones written about…but all sooo very comforting…and I thank God  for each of them…

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ.

2Cor.1.3-5

Thank YOU….

“Comforting Bible Verses for Times of Pain, Grief, and Worry

The Bible can comfort us in many ways:

Remind us of God's love and faithfulness. The Bible includes stories of God's love and faithfulness toward His people. These stories can remind us that God loves us and will never abandon us, no matter what we are going through.

Give us hope for the future. The Bible informs us that God has a good plan for our lives. This hope can help us to keep going even when things are tough.

Comfort us in our sorrow. The Bible counsels us about the causes of true grief and gives consolation from the pain of loss and suffering. It can offer us comfort and hope in our darkest moments.

Help us to forgive others. The Bible teaches us that forgiveness is essential for our own healing. It can help us to let go of anger and bitterness and move on with our lives.

Give us the strength to face challenges. The Bible contains stories of people who faced challenges and overcame them. These stories can give us the strength to face our own challenges.”

Figs …2…

Figs 2…..

The other day, figs were mentioned as a poultice for Hezekiah’s illness… medicinal use…not sure if that is still done or not…but that is what he used…

This week I opened my fruit and vegetable box..and lo and behold there was a carton of fresh black figs…what a “coincidence “ to be blessed with…Praise!…

But other lessons “crop” up about figs/fig trees…

A few to share!

“Fig trees symbolize prosperity and abundance in scripture.

They represent the blessings of God.

Fig trees symbolize the nation of Israel and its spiritual condition.

Fig trees offer lessons for individuals seeking to deepen their faith.

Fig Trees As A Metaphor For Spiritual Growth

Fig trees play a significant role in spiritual growth, offering valuable lessons for individuals seeking to deepen their faith. The symbolism of fig trees and their connection to personal transformation can be found throughout the Bible.

Just as a fig tree requires time, care, and nourishment to bear fruit, so too does our spiritual journey require patience, perseverance, and intentional nurturing. The fig tree serves as a reminder that spiritual maturity is a gradual process that requires continuous effort and attention.”

https://biblicalpathway.com/biblical-meaning-of-scriptural-fig-trees/

“. The meaning of the word  figs in the Bible serves as a powerful reminder of our need to bear fruit in our spiritual lives, reflecting God's love and grace to the world around us. As we seek to nurture our faith, we can take inspiration from the fig tree, striving to live fruitful, abundant lives in Christ.”

12, 22 years old

 12, 22 years old….

I can’t imagine what it would be like to start reigning as king at any of these ages…

The 12 year old…

“He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, following the detestable practices of the nations the Lord had driven out before the Israelites.

He sacrificed his own son in the fire, practiced divination, sought omens, and consulted mediums and spiritists.

He did much evil in the eyes of the Lord, arousing his anger.

But the people did not listen.

Manasseh led them astray, so that they did more evil than the nations the Lord had destroyed before the Israelites.

I will stretch out over Jerusalem the measuring line used against Samaria and the plumb line used against the house of Ahab.

I will wipe out Jerusalem as one wipes a dish, wiping it and turning it upside down.

they have done evil in my eyes and have aroused my anger from the day their ancestors came out of Egypt until this day.” Moreover, Manasseh also shed so much innocent blood that he filled Jerusalem from end to end—besides the sin that he had caused Judah to commit, so that they did evil in the eyes of the Lord.

2Kgs.21.2,2Kgs.21.6,2Kgs.21.9,2Kgs.21.13,2Kgs.21.15-16

The 22 year old-

Amon was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem two years.

His mother’s name was Meshullemeth daughter of Haruz; she was from Jotbah.

He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, as his father Manasseh had done.

He followed completely the ways of his father, worshiping the idols his father had worshiped, and bowing down to them.

He forsook the Lord, the God of his ancestors, and did not walk in obedience to him.

Amon’s officials conspired against him and assassinated the king in his palace.

Then the people of the land killed all who had plotted against King Amon, and they made Josiah his son king in his place.

2 Kings 21:19-24

These two were surely not known for their Godly ways…they represent the list in Galations-

The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Gal.5.19-21

Through the time/centuries things have been basically the same…good and evil…and we still have a choice whom to serve…

Do not envy the violentor choose any of their ways.

For the Lord detests the perverse but takes the upright into his confidence.

The Lord’s curse is on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the home of the righteous.

Prov.3.31-33

Jesus answered, “My teaching is not my own. It comes from the one who sent me. Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own. Whoever speaks on their own does so to gain personal glory, but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him. John.7.16-18

8 years old…

 8 years old….

It is interesting to find and read through the list of kings in Judah…this on did what’s was evil…this one did what was right…here is a boy, a good boy in the midst of evil king after evil king who chose to do what  was right from an early age…

We don’t much about his mother except her name…but, she may have instilled godly values, words into his young mind and heart as opposed to his wicked father…

2 Kings 22,23, 2 Chronicles 33-35, Jeremiah 1, 22 all speak of him…

As his people were cleaning out the temple they found God’s Word,   which was read to Josiah and to the people…I have always found that interesting…they had to find the Word …and then reading it, they were, humbled,  in awe and changed…

It still does that today…we are humbled, convicted, and have the opportunity to change through Christ by the reading of the Word…

Because as David said…

“ Your word is a lamp for my feet,a light on my path. Your statutes are my heritage forever;they are the joy of my heart. My heart is set on keeping your decrees to the very end.”

Ps.119.105,Ps.119.111-112

Thank YOU….

Even small children are known by their actions,so is their conduct really pure and upright?

Prov.20.11

Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem thirty-one years. His mother’s name was Jedidah daughter of Adaiah; she was from Bozkath. He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and followed completely the ways of his father David, not turning aside to the right or to the left.

2Kgs.22.1-2

Neither before nor after Josiah was there a king like him who turned to the Lord as he did—with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his strength, in accordance with all the Law of Moses.

Figs…

Figs…

One set on my grandparents had figs…and they were sooooo delicious….and I still love them when I can find them, fresh…my grand mother would put them in a pot and let them simmer for. Long period of time, until they were thick…the we could have the jam on bread…like eating fig newtons only fresher…Hummmm Hummmm good….

But the people in the Mideast not only ate the figs, but used them for medicinal purposes as well…a poultice was made and used for skin conditions, boils, sores, etc….

In 2 Kings and Isaiah, the figs  were used to heal King Hezekiah from death…

Reading this portion at this time after another diagnosis of more cancer for myself, I am tempted to go out and find some figs and make a poultice for myself…but, probably not….

I have to take into account of making sure my house is in order, estate planning done…and see what God has for me…he healed Hezekiah and gave him 15 more years…that was his plan for him…not sure what God has planned for me…

I so appreciated what Hezekiah wrote in Isaiah after his illness and recovery…

Thank YOU…

In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and said, “This is what the Lord says: Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.”

“Remember, Lord, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.

Before Isaiah had left the middle court, the word of the Lord came to him: “Go back and tell Hezekiah, the ruler of my people, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will heal you. On the third day from now you will go up to the temple of the Lord. I will add fifteen years to your life. And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend this city for my sake and for the sake of my servant David.’”

Then Isaiah said, “Prepare a poultice of figs.” They did so and applied it to the boil, and he recovered.

2Kgs.1-7

A writing of Hezekiah king of Judah after his illness and recovery: I said, “In the prime of my life must I go through the gates of death and be robbed of the rest of my years?” I said, “I will not again see the Lord himself in the land of the living;no longer will I look on my fellow man,or be with those who now dwell in this world.

Like a shepherd’s tent my house has been pulled down and taken from me.

Like a weaver I have rolled up my life, and he has cut me off from the loom;day and night you made an end of me.

I waited patiently till dawn, but like a lion he broke all my bones;day and night you made an end of me.

I cried like a swift or thrush,I moaned like a mourning dove.

My eyes grew weak as I looked to the heavens.I am being threatened; Lord, come to my aid!”

But what can I say?He has spoken to me, and he himself has done this.I will walk humbly all my years because of this anguish of my soul.

Lord, by such things people live;and my spirit finds life in them too.You restored me to health and let me live.

Surely it was for my benefit that I suffered such anguish.

In your love you kept me from the pit of destruction;you have put all my sins behind your back.

For the grave cannot praise you, death cannot sing your praise;those who go down to the pit cannot hope for your faithfulness.

The living, the living—they praise you,as I am doing today;parents tell their children about your faithfulness.

The Lord will save me,and we will sing with stringed instruments all the days of our livesin the temple of the Lord.

Isaiah had said, “Prepare a poultice of figs and apply it to the boil, and he will recover.”

Isa.38.9-21

“The account of the fig poultice in Hezekiah's healing underscores the interplay between divine intervention and human agency. While the healing ultimately comes from God, the use of a natural remedy signifies the cooperation between God's miraculous power and the means available to humans. This narrative illustrates the belief that God can work through ordinary elements of creation to accomplish His purposes.

Furthermore, Hezekiah's account emphasizes the importance of prayer and faith. His earnest plea to God and subsequent healing serve as a testament to the power of prayer and the compassion of God towards those who seek Him with a sincere heart.

Symbolism and Interpretation

In biblical symbolism, the fig tree often represents Israel and its spiritual state. While the fig poultice itself is a practical remedy, its inclusion in the narrative may also carry symbolic weight, suggesting restoration and healing not only for Hezekiah but also for the nation he leads. The healing of the king can be seen as a metaphor for the potential healing and restoration of the people of Israel when they turn to God in faith and repentance.

The fig poultice, therefore, serves as a reminder of God's provision and the integration of faith and practical action in the life of believers. It highlights the belief that God is intimately involved in the lives of His people, responding to their needs and working through both natural and supernatural means to bring about His will.”

Oh on you never let go…

Oh no you never let go….

Oh no you never let go…

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Pn4KQqSrrA

I awoke to this song repeating and repeating itself in my mind and heart this morning…”never let go…” “through the calm and through the storm….”

And then reading about  King Hezekiah…2 Kings 19…his laying his threatening letter before the Lord…

“ And Hezekiah prayed to the Lord: “Lord, the God of Israel, enthroned between the cherubim, you alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth. Give ear, Lord, and hear; open your eyes, Lord, and see; listen to the words Sennacherib has sent to ridicule the living God. “It is true, Lord, that the Assyrian kings have laid waste these nations and their lands. They have thrown their gods into the fire and destroyed them, for they were not gods but only wood and stone, fashioned by human hands.

Now, Lord our God, deliver us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you alone, Lord, are God.”

That night the angel of the Lord went out and put to death a hundred and eighty-five thousand in the Assyrian camp. When the people got up the next morning—there were all the dead bodies!

2Kgs.19.15,-19,35

He worshipped God…he told of his might, his creation…his eyes to see, ears to hear…then prayed for deliverance…and finished with God’s reputation, his power…and who His is…

Hezekiah was going through the storm of the song…knowing that God never let go and Hezehiah didn’t want to let go of God either..

It seems like every time, I am going through a crisis, I remembered this picture of Hezekiah laying out his letter before the Lord…” here is what is happening, Lord…help me…you are the only one I can go to with confidence…You know the beginning from the end…You know my thoughts, my heart…you know the words even before I speak them, You alone are the God of the universe…”

And I had to do it again yesterday, as the cancer doctor said my cancer has returned….and I start treatments in two weeks again…to what end? …only God has that answer…

Then you will call, and the Lord will answer;you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I.“

The Lord will guide you always;he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.

Isa.58.9a,Isa.58.11

Thank YOU…

On whom are you depending…

On whom are you depending….

The field commander said to them, “Tell Hezekiah:“‘This is what the great king, the king of Assyria, says: On what are you basing this confidence of yours?

You say you have the counsel and the might for war—but you speak only empty words. On whom are you depending, that you rebel against me?

2Kgs.18.19-20

Hezekiah trusted in the Lord, the God of Israel. There was no one like him among all the kings of Judah, either before him or after him. He held fast to the Lord and did not stop following him; he kept the commands the Lord had given Moses.

2Kgs.18.5-6

“Hezekiah placed his faith in God’s strength rather than his own, he obeyed God’s commands in spite of the obstacles and dangers that, from a purely human standpoint, looked overwhelming…” Bible study notes..

Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it. Then he went up to the temple of the Lord and spread it out before the Lord.

And Hezekiah prayed to the Lord: “Lord, the God of Israel, enthroned between the cherubim, you alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth.

2Kgs.19.14-19

I will defend this city and save it,for my sake and for the sake of David my servant.’”

2Kgs.19.34

Paul…

For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.

1Cor.1.21

That is why I am suffering as I am. Yet this is no cause for shame, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until that day.

2Tim.1.1

John…

I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.

He will be our peace…

  He will be our peace….

Turmoil, confusion, unrest…

That is what we seem to see on an everyday basis …and somewhere in the midst of it, we need comfort, peace to carry on everyday life… a lot of the world does not have that…they wait in food lines, find shelter in tents, bombed out buildings, harassed by various terror groups…no peace…

As Christians, we have a shepherd, we have a comforter, we can find peace when we seek Jesus…he is our peace…

Jas.3.17

Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Father’s Son, will be with us in truth and love.

2John.1.3

“Historically, the loss of everything people knew, due to progress war or famine has been quite traumatic to those caught in the moment. In an instant, people begin to realize that everything they knew is about to change and they can do nothing but lament and grieve. In this place of sorrow and desperation we find people at the end of their rope. People at the end of their rope typically cannot see past the pain of grief in the moment. Those in the throws of grief are in need of a promise.

That promise comes to Micah in Chapter 5, when God declares the people of God will go from defeated ruler to conquering king. But the new promise does not come without the pain of letting go and mourning what was. Mourning what we were comfortable with, even when it has become so tainted by outside influence it doesn’t resemble itself, is still very real. Loss of what we knew, even when it is broken, is terrifying. The new promise is just that; new and unknown. Having the courage to move into something new, even if it is better can be traumatic unto itself.

Father’s Day plus 1…

 Father’s Day plus 1….

I had the privilege of having a great father, grandfather, step grandfather, father in law, brothers in law…plus great uncles, cousins…men who were and are people of honor, trustworthy…

And then God saw fit to give me a husband who followed God, loved me, and our children…who are raising their children and grandchildren to be the same…

Now I have two sons, two son in laws, grown and growing grandsons, two great  grand sons…all who bless me in so many ways…

It has not been without problems or discouragement, down days, or hard times…those times when we can grow exponentially…

I sent my oldest grandson and grandson in law cards for first time fathers…which said so much from a child to their father…

Thank YOU…for these men in my life…

 As a father has compassion on his children,so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;

Ps.103.13

Listen, my sons, to a father’s instruction;pay attention and gain understanding.

I give you sound learning,so do not forsake my teaching.

For I too was a son to my father, still tender, and cherished by my mother.

Then he taught me, and he said to me,“Take hold of my words with all your heart;keep my commands, and you will live.

Get wisdom, get understanding;do not forget my words or turn away from them.

Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you;love her, and she will watch over you.

The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom.

Though it cost all you have, get understanding.

Listen, my son, accept what I say,and the years of your life will be many.

I instruct you in the way of wisdomand lead you along straight paths.

When you walk, your steps will not be hampered;when you run, you will not stumble.

Hold on to instruction, do not let it go;guard it well, for it is your life. Do not set foot on the path of the wickedor walk in the way of evildoers.

Avoid it, do not travel on it;turn from it and go on your way.

For they cannot rest until they do evil;they are robbed of sleep till they make someone stumble.

Humbling ….

Humbling….

Health crisis’s are humbling…especially for adults…it one thing to change the diapers of your babies as they are growing…making sure they are clean and taken care of…but taking care of adults in their needs is a bit harder…I took care of my mother after her stroke, colon cancer and it was hard for both of us…not the physical part, but her complete dependence upon another for a time…she was such a strong person to be weakened so much…then came my husband after that, until I couldn’t physically do it anymore and needed help…then my father ….all weakened to the point of needing everything…. Then this last year for myself and my children helped me in my health crisis….helplessness…

A book came out in the 1980’s, “Love you Forever “, by

Robert Munsch speaks to this cycle…caring through the years of. Life…it looks like a children’s book, but it touches the heart of all ages…caring for one another through time…

Isaiah writes about humbleness …as do other authors in the scriptures…

It is our attitude of humility or not…that is what the Lord looks for…those who are humble, with a contrite heart…who heart is responsive, teachable, seeking God’s guidance for our lives …

We have to realize that all comes from God’s hand…and humble ourselves to that…He is the author and finisher of our faith…nothing circumvents Him…and we are humbled before Him…

Thank YOU….

This is what the Lord says:“Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool.Where is the house you will build for me?

Where will my resting place be? Has not my hand made all these things, and so they came into being?”declares the Lord.“

These are the ones I look on with favor:those who are humble and contrite in spirit, and who tremble at my word.

Isa.66.1-2

(Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth.)

Num.12.3

Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. He gave you manna to eat in the wilderness, something your ancestors had never known, to humble and test you so that in the end it might go well with you.

Deut.8.2,Deut.8.3,Deut.8.16

The Lord sends poverty and wealth;he humbles and he exalts.

1Sam.2.7

Because your heart was responsive and you humbled yourself before God when you heard what he spoke against this place and its people, and because you humbled yourself before me and tore your robes and wept in my presence, I have heard you, declares the Lord.

2Chr.34.27

Good and upright is the Lord;therefore he instructs sinners in his ways.

He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way. All the ways of the Lord are loving and faithfultoward those who keep the demands of his covenant.

For the sake of your name, Lord, forgive my iniquity, though it is great.

Ps.25.8-11

The Lord sustains the humble but casts the wicked to the ground. For the Lord takes delight in his people;he crowns the humble with victory.

Ps.147.6,Ps.149.4

Seek the Lord, all you humble of the land, you who do what he commands.Seek righteousness, seek humility;perhaps you will be shelteredon the day of the Lord’s anger.

But I will leave within youthe meek and humble. The remnant of Israel will trust in the name of the Lord.

Zeph.2.3,Zeph.3.12

For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

Luke.14.11

For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.

Rom.12.3

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.

Eph.4.2

Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

Jas.4.10

Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble.

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.

Job opportunity…

 A job opportunity …

Early on our marriage, the 1970’s, my husband was offered a job with a mining company working near Tehran…the economy was booming…the then government was trying to get foreign companies to invest, to help them expand, to train their people and be involved in world trade…one part would be mineral and oil exploration…

“During the 1950s and 1960s, Tehran saw major infrastructural developments as Iran’s oil wealth was used to build modern roads, bridges, universities, and cultural institutions. The city’s population surged as people from rural areas migrated to the capital in search of better economic opportunities.”

https://worldofhistorycheatsheet.com/history-of-tehran-iran/

We talked about, prayed about, fasted about it,  counseled with family and friends, we were excited about it, wrote out pros and cons…there were so many pros and only a few cons….but, as much as we drummed up excitement, we had no peace about it…and bottom line was, “no peace, no go”….and that was our contentment with our decision…we never regretted the “what ifs”…and went forward….

Little did we know, that the government would soon topple and be changed  so very much….

“Tehran and the Iranian Revolution (1979)
Tehran was at the heart of the political upheaval that led to the Iranian Revolution of 1979. Discontent with the rule of Mohammad Reza Shah, including widespread criticism of his authoritarian rule, pro-Western policies, and growing economic inequality, fueled protests in Tehran and other major cities.
Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, who had been exiled by the Shah, became the spiritual and political leader of the revolution. Protests and demonstrations in Tehran reached their peak in 1978 and early 1979, culminating in the Shah’s abdication and departure from the country in January 1979.
Khomeini returned to Tehran in February 1979, where he was greeted by millions of supporters, marking the end of the Pahlavi monarchy and the beginning of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

Isaiah speaks of a king, Cyrus, more than 140  years before  Cyrus came to power…Ezra, Nehemiah lived in Cyrus’ time…Isaiah 40…

“Historical Significance: Iran, known as Persia in ancient times, plays a crucial role in biblical history, particularly during the Jewish Exile and the return to Jerusalem facilitated by Cyrus the Great.

Key Biblical Figures: Prominent figures such as Cyrus the Great, Darius I, and Xerxes I highlight the interaction between biblical narratives and Persian history, showcasing themes of governance and faith.

Scriptural References: Although Iran is not frequently mentioned by name, passages such as 2 Chronicles 36:22-23 and Esther provide insight into its historical and spiritual relevance in the Bible.

Theological Implications: The biblical narrative emphasizes God’s sovereignty over nations, illustrating how Iran’s historical events link to divine purpose and the fulfillment of prophecies.”

(Interesting article)

Now, present day, June, 2025, we can watch Israel and Iran at war, not just a lobbing missiles across the border as has been going on over time, but  a real campaign…

We are watching history making in action again…in biblical proportions…Only God knows the outcome of this…we have biblical prophecies, are they for now?, in the future yet…?

We know that God is the ultimate ruler of all nations, the world, the Creator of all…only He knows the times…we know that the gospel is being given out and believed  on by both sides of the border, and surrounding countries in turmoil, to God’s glory…

Thank YOU…

Rear guard…

 Rear guard….

But you will not leave in hasteor go in flight;for the Lord will go before you,the God of Israel will be your rear guard.

Isa.52.12

Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear;then your righteousness will go before you,and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.

Isa.58.8

Omnipresent=present in all places at all times…Merriam Webster…

The first things that comes to mind reading about

God being our rear guard was the picture in my mind of the Israelites fleeing Egypt…and this verse in Exodus…He had brought them out of Egypt and continued to protect them in the desert even though the Egyptian army was following…thousands of people walking in the desert with an army with horses chasing them…it’s like the tortoise and the hare tale… but there is a “but, God” had a different narrative…He was  their rear guard…

Then the angel of God, who had been traveling in front of Israel’s army, withdrew and went behind them. The pillar of cloud also moved from in front and stood behind them, coming between the armies of Egypt and Israel. Throughout the night the cloud brought darkness to the one side and light to the other side; so neither went near the other all night long.

Exod.14.19-20

“In biblical terminology, the concept of a "rear-guard" refers to a protective force or presence that follows and secures the rear of a moving group, often an army or a caravan. This term is used both literally and metaphorically in the Scriptures to describe God's protective role over His people.”

https://biblehub.com/topical/r/rear-guard.htm

Then Isaiah speaks of the Lord being Israel’s rear guard again hundreds of year later…bringing them into their land again…had he forgotten them along the way? No, he kept his promises, his covenants….he still went before them and after them…filled with compassion…even in times of their wanderings…

https://debbietaylorwilliams.com/whats-coming-up-behind-you/

In the book of Psalms, David adds this verse…

The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him,and he delivers them.

Ps.34.7

I personally have to take heart in that…Not only does God in the omnipresence…all around me, before me, beside me, after me..he has an angel watching as well…and then far beyond that He has given me His Holy Spirit to dwell within me…as Christians , we are well guarded…

Thank YOU…

Cyrus…no …Mozambique…

 Cyrus…no…Mozambique…

I was thinking about Isaiah 45 yesterday and the king Cyrus…Ezra…Nehemiah….and God’s mercy and timing for the Jews return to their land…another day…

I have a friend who ministers in Mozambique to the poorest of the poor…she works with a mission organization called the Iris Project which was started many years ago…her husband and mine were business and geology partners until God saw fit to call each home, leaving two widows to manage their business…what a shock that was…we sold and gave away everything…she followed her calling and gifting into mission work…I stayed and followed mine…different paths with the same goals…using our talents to glorify God in what we do…

We talk via What’s App, visit when she is stateside with her family….

She suggested a new book the other day, stories about people and their lives who have been changed because of this ministry …ministering to the poorest of the poor…

It struck me with its contrasts of how God uses different giftings, callings of people….here I am working on furnishing a new home with new furniture, appliances, accessories needed for others to rent and use…I can order on Amazon…go to furniture companies, restaurant suppliers, Walmart, thrift stores, order pictures for the walls, etc to make people comfortable…using the incoming funds to fund missions all over the world…

Stories  in this book speak of the poverty, the life stories of children dying because of lack of food, medical help….building shelters of grass which  wash away in the floods, monsoons each year, or lack of schooling, or teachers…and so on…

It is amazing to read of lives all over the world changed by the Gospel, not necessarily from poverty to riches, but of the faith in the True God who saves…how He worked in their lives and those around them…

We each have a place, a plan, a gifting, a calling on our lives whether we live in the flood plains of Mozambique, the tropics of Colombia, the desert of Somalia, the mountains of Nepal…God can use us and wants to if we obey…the Gospel is for all, rich or poor, no matter the culture…if we just come to Him….

Thank YOU…

I am the Lord, and there is no other;apart from me there is no God.I will strengthen you, though you have not acknowledged me, so that from the rising of the sun to the place of its setting people may know there is none besides me.

I am the Lord, and there is no other.

I form the light and create darkness,I bring prosperity and create disaster;I, the Lord, do all these things.

For this is what the Lord says—he who created the heavens,he is God;he who fashioned and made the earth,he founded it;he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited—he says:“I am the Lord, and there is no other. “

Turn to me and be saved, all you ends of the earth;for I am God, and there is no other.

By myself I have sworn,my mouth has uttered in all integrity-a word that will not be revoked:Before me every knee will bow;by me every tongue will swear.

Isa.45.5-7, Isa.45.18,Isa.45.22-23

Bible study notes…

“God is ruler over light  and darkness, over prosperity and disaster. Our lives are sprinkled with both types of experiences, and both are needed for us to grow spiritually. When good times come, thank God and use your prosperity for him.when bad times come, don’t resent them, but ask what you can learn from this refining experience to make you a better servant of God.”

Thank you for stories of people who have been impacted by the gospel no matter what mission organization…

Trees…

Trees….

Growing up, I was always aware of different trees…they were what we played in or under…they were place names,  Lemon Cove, Orange grove, Walnut Creek….they are what warmed our homes-some for kindling, some for overnight logs, some for everyday burning….they were what built our homes, different kinds for different purposes…they were what paid our bills at various times…they were what fueled our economy, provided jobs..

They were my grandfathers’ built fences or whittled with….they were what we picked fruit, nuts from….they were our Christmas trees or adorned our yards…soooo much… each had a purpose…and still do…

Trees are named, used throughout the Bible…different purposes…to build an ark, the produce fruit in the Garden of Eden, to sweeten water, to journey with, to be used in the hands of men for judgment, to build and carry the tabernacle, the build palaces, to be styled by a carpenter, to be used in comparisons, to hold crucified men…..so much…

In Genesis, God created the vegetation for a purpose not for just for our food, but to used in so many ways….not to be worshiped, or carved for idols but useful…

The carpenter measures with a lineand makes an outline with a marker;he roughs it out with chiselsand marks it with compasses.

He shapes it in human form, human form in all its glory, that it may dwell in a shrine.

He cut down cedars,or perhaps took a cypress or oak.He let it grow among the trees of the forest,or planted a pine, and the rain made it grow. It is used as fuel for burning;some of it he takes and warms himself,he kindles a fire and bakes bread. But he also fashions a god and worships it;he makes an idol and bows down to it.

Half of the wood he burns in the fire;over it he prepares his meal,he roasts his meat and eats his fill.He also warms himself and says,“Ah! I am warm; I see the fire.”

From the rest he makes a god, his idol;he bows down to it and worships. He prays to it and says,“Save me! You are my god!”

They know nothing, they understand nothing;their eyes are plastered over so they cannot see,and their minds closed so they cannot understand.

No one stops to think,no one has the knowledge or understanding to say,“Half of it I used for fuel;I even baked bread over its coals,I roasted meat and I ate.Shall I make a detestable thing from what is left?

Shall I bow down to a block of wood?”

Isa.44.13-19

In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for special purposes and some for common use.

Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.

2Tim.2.20-21

1Blessed is the onewho does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.

That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers.

Ps.1.1-3

The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and the one who is wise saves lives.

Prov.11.30

Be still…

 Be still…

I wake up to these words everyday…”be still and know that I am God…”…they sit there on the wall, waiting for to be read, heeded…lived…there are times that it is so easy…as other times that it is sooooo difficult…I want to be still and let God hold the reins, but anxious thoughts over rule…other times, I am at the end of the rope and realize again there is no where to turn but God…I want that peace that passes all understanding that only He gives in that stillness …that fear or whatever, but being honest, I sometimes don’t rely on it…

So those words are a daily reminder to seek his stillness knowing that he only is in control all the time…He takes care of our worries, our “frets” and he alone can calm the seas around us…he will be exalted in all the earth…not me or my plans…

I want to go directly to that stillness, that peace instead of picking up that mantle of anxiety…and God is working on me daily…

Thank YOU…

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him;do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.

Ps.37.7

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;I will be exalted among the nations,I will be exalted in the earth.”

Ps.46.10

He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!”

Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

My “bonsai “ apple tree…

 My “bonsai “ apple tree….

I walked early this morning on my “healing” lane as the temperatures are to rise considerably today…each time I go back and forth I pass my little tree…this year it has an amazing apple crop, even after thinning out about half the apples…

But each year I have trimmed it, babied it, rerouted the water to it, staked it, trying to make it grow better…thinking of the orchardist in the Bible who begged for another year to help his tree grow…

(Then he told this parable: “A man had a fig tree growing in his vineyard, and he went to look for fruit on it but did not find any. So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard, ‘For three years now I’ve been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and haven’t found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?’ “‘Sir,’ the man replied, ‘leave it alone for one more year, and I’ll dig around it and fertilize it. If it bears fruit next year, fine! If not, then cut it down.’”

Luke.13.6-9)

Reading Isaiah 44 this morning…he talks about the carpenter…and who really is the maker…

The carpenter measures with a line and makes an outline with a marker;he roughs it out with chisels and marks it with compasses. He shapes it in human form, human form in all its glory, that it may dwell in a shrine.

He cut down cedars,or perhaps took a cypress or oak.

He let it grow among the trees of the forest,or planted a pine, and the rain made it grow.

You are my god!” They know nothing, they understand nothing;their eyes are plastered over so they cannot see,and their minds closed so they cannot understand.

No one stops to think,no one has the knowledge or understanding to say,“Half of it I used for fuel;I even baked bread over its coals,I roasted meat and I ate.

Shall I make a detestable thing from what is left?

Shall I bow down to a block of wood?”

Such a person feeds on ashes; a deluded heart misleads him;he cannot save himself, or say,“Is not this thing in my right hand a lie?”

“Remember these things, Jacob, for you, Israel, are my servant.I have made you, you are my servant;Israel, I will not forget you.

I have swept away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist.

Return to me,for I have redeemed you.” Sing for joy, you heavens, for the Lord has done this;shout aloud, you earth beneath.

Burst into song, you mountains, you forests and all your trees, for the Lord has redeemed Jacob,he displays his glory in Israel.

“This is what the Lord says—your Redeemer, who formed you in the womb:I am the Lord, the Maker of all things, who stretches out the heavens, who spreads out the earth by myself,….

Isa.44.13-24

I may have babied this poor tree along, but the Maker of heaven and earth decided its life…I was a tool, but He was the grower…

Go…2..

 Go …2…

In 1988, 37 years ago, my oldest son and his best friend went on an adventure of a lifetime…they went on their first short term mission trip…they were slated for Bethlehem, but it was switched to Australia due to the unrest in Israel at the time…

They made it through the swampy boot camp in Florida, chopped down trees , built a huge barn, visited the nearly people, saw and listened to the kookaburra, lived “down under” , shared and lived the gospel…they came back changed young men…sharing their experiences with others down through the years…later siblings also followed similar paths or did adventures as well…paths directed by God for their individual lives…

Last night, we had a prayer and dedication for some   teens going on their first adventure as well as others leading, volunteering…friends, family gathering to send off workers, leaders, camp staff to that same swampy Florida camp…to work together creating teams to serve others…to share the gospel… to be changed to follow their call in life…

As I read Isaiah 6 this morning…” Holy, Holy, Holy is the LORD Almighty…the whole earth is full of His Glory …the doorposts and the thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke…

Here am I, send me”…

What an awesome wonder…God is as awesome today with these teens as he was with Isaiah hundreds of years ago…or 37 years ago or  last year…His message of redemption today is just as important to people around the world as it was then…

Thank YOU…

Lest we forget…

 Lest we forget…

I have been reading an old World War 1 novel while I have been recuperating from my latest surgery…the characters are rehashing the daily news, when one speaks up, saying “we need to Remember, lest we forget the horrors of war, the death and destruction of nations, of our families….”..

Not too long ago, I was reminded that one of the generals upon seeing the concentration camps of Germany, called for photographers to take as many pictures as possible, lest we forget the horrors of those scenes….

Records, though gory, remind us of the judgements we rain down upon ourselves when we turn our backs upon God…or the evil which Satan brings when given reign…

Time after time, through the prophets, God speaks of consequences of turning away from Him…and the picture is not pretty…

On the other hand, the promises are great!

“We who are part of that future can see that many of the promises God gave through Isaiah have been fulfilled in Jesus"Christ. We also gain the hope of knowing that God is active in all of history, including our own.” Bible study notes…

Thank YOU…

God of our fathers, known of old,
Lord of our far-flung battle-line,
Beneath whose awful Hand we hold
Dominion over palm and pine—
Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet,
Lest we forget—lest we forget!

Ushuaia, Argentina…

Ushuaia, Argentina….

Past the Strait of Magellan, on the southern tip of Argentina, there is beautiful little town of Ushuaia…my husband and I travelled there on a trip several years ago…we were trying to get warm so we travelled south…but it was cool and windy there as well…

The thing I remember most of Ushuaia was a young man standing on the street corner handing out pamphlets and talking to the people about their need for Jesus as  their Savior…he wasn’t from a cult but a well known Christian Organization…he wasn’t preaching hellfire and damnation, but how to become a believer…we won’t know what became of that young man or what the fruit of his work was until we get to heaven, but he was doing what he was called to do…

I thought of this as I started reading Joel this am…he had a message from God to give …repent…wake-up…mourn…despair…

“ Alas for that day!For the day of the Lord is near;it will come like destruction from the Almighty.”

Joel.1.15

He spoke of destruction of Judah…by other nations…

And this was 700+ years before Christ…the Messiah…

Jesus spoke of the end times in similar ways…Matthew 24

As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many.

You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed.

Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.

There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.

“Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.

Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

Matt.24.3-15

The message in Joel and Matthew by Jesus were similar…

“God judges all people for their sins, but he is merciful to those who turn to him and offers them eternal salvation.” Bible study notes..

Thank YOU….
